Mama Saves the Day. Retrospective: Lost Girl Season Finale – “Those Who Wander”

It’s quite the detour seeing a human side to a member of the Dark Fae’s protective squad because we never get a chance to hate them. Instead, they’re intimidating hulks so it’s nice to see someone have an actual conversation with Bruce. He’s the one who tells Kenzi she was protected from The Morrigan by the Twig of Zamora.

Divorce Can Be Depressing. Review: Nurse Jackie – “Luck of the Drawing”

Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) and Jackie (Edie Falco) can’t come to an agreement on the terms of their divorce, and Dr. Prentiss (Morris Chestnut) uses a special technique to remove a spider from a little boy’s (Skylar Gaertner) ear. Problems arise when Hannah (Sarah Steele), one of last week’s bus crash victims, returns to All Saints with sepsis, which she contracted at the hospital, and Zoey (Merritt Wever) cheerfully volunteers to be the hand wash monitor. It’s just another day on the job at All Saints. Or, is it? After all, it’s Jackie’s birthday!

Talk About A Hot Dream… Review: The Vampire Diaries – “Pictures of You”

I’m sorry to say “Pictures of You” didn’t do it for me this week and I don’t expect things to get better anytime soon. What the hell happened to the TVD awesomeness of last season?

Let the Backstabbing Begin! Review: Da Vinci’s Demons – “The Hanged Man”

Da Vinci’s Demons is definitely not for someone who just wants an hour of mindless television entertainment. You have to pay attention, keep track of all the players, and take notes to stay vested in the show.

Frankie Friction. Retrospective: Psych – “Deez Nups”

“Deez Nups” is a fun episode filled with everything you would expect from a Psych wedding. In many ways, I wish this had been the highly hyped 100th episode because it had what I felt was missing —a part for everyone. The whole cast was involved, providing a fun celebration for everyone

What a Tragic, Sad State of Affairs. Review: The Americans – “Only You”

No words are necessary as the final scenes of “Only You” unfold. The haunting slow melody and lyrics of “To Love Somebody” say all that is necessary. I know The Americans is just a TV show but when the screen faded to black, I felt completely empty and sad. When a show can elicit such depth of emotion, you know you have a hit on your hands.

Humans vs. Fae. Retrospective: Lost Girl – “Hail, Hale”

“Hail, Hale” is a fast and furious episode, uncovering Tamsin’s (Rachel Skarsten) betrayal of Bo (Anna Silk), Kenzi’s (Ksenia Solo) human nature putting her in danger with the Fae, Lauren (Zoie Palmer) making a heady discovery, and Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) having to fight a mortal enemy Fae to save his life.

Tito Jackson’s B-day. Review: Psych – “Cirque Du Soul”

Gus (Dule Hill) plans a “big boy day” in an effort to spend some quality time with his girlfriend Rachael’s (Parminder Nagra) son, Maximus (Mateen Devji). When Maximus rejects his list of things to do, Shawn (James Roday) suggests the circus; little does Gus know that’s the location of their next case

Tit for Tat. Review: The Americans – “Safe House”

Season 1, Episode 9 Air Date: Wednesday, April 3, 2013, 10 pm ET/PT on FX Rating: [rating=5]   What a game changing episode! “Safe House” takes us on a series of highs and lows and gives us an ending that shocked me to my core. The Jennings’ marriage suffers greatly from past events; one of …

The Governor Done Lost His Damn Mind! Review: The Walking Dead – “Welcome to the Tombs”

It would seem no one is safe anymore. You never know which characters will survive from week to week.

Dun, dun, dun, duh… Review: The Vampire Diaries – “American Gothic”

While not the most engaging hour of television, “American Gothic” shows us just how crafty Katharine can be. I like the idea that a lone woman can wreak so much havoc in a world dominated by men.

Prof. Plum in the Study with a Candlestick. Review: Psych – “100 Clues”

Shawn (James Roday) is invited to a party at a mysterious house by an unknown host. Shawn takes Gus (Dule Hill) with him instead and soon they realize that a case from their past has brought all the players back together again, but for what reason? During the evening, someone is found murdered, leaving them all to wonder which one of them is the murderer and who is next?

Tap Your Inner Juvie. Retrospective: Lost Girl – “Delinquents”

The color red plays a dominant role throughout “Delinquents”: Bo wears a red negligee, Lauren (Zoie Palmer) wears a red button down blouse, and Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten) wears a really low-cut red shirt. Red, being an intense color that elicits strong emotions, especially love, is meant to symbolize the feelings these three women have for each other (well, except for Lauren and Tamsin but the common denominator here is Bo).

Another One Bites The Dust. Review: The Walking Dead – “This Sorrowful Life”

Everything that happens in “This Sorrowful Life” takes me by surprise. Next week’s finale can only bring more amazing acting, writing, and memorable moments. I cannot wait.

Curing Comas. Review: Shameless – “Civil Wrongs”

If anyone has trouble with William H. Macy playing Frank Gallagher, well, he has proved you wrong in “Civil Wrongs.” Macy absolutely shines this week as the pawn between the gay marriage activists and the conversion therapy group. Jeremy Allen White also proves his acting chops during Lip’s hospital bedside scenes with Karen (Laura Slade Wiggins). And let’s not forget Joan Cusack as Sheila. That woman says more with her tears and facial expressions than some actors connote with real dialogue. Oh hell, everyone was outstanding this week!

More Like Because the Zzzzzz… Review: The Vampire Diaries “Because the Night”

“Because the Night” isn’t the best nor the worst I’ve seen this season. Not great, not bad; just Oh. Kay. But I just couldn’t get into it.

It’s Semantics. Review: Psych – “No Country for Two Old Men”

Is there such a shortage of writers that new and original ideas have run dry? Don’t get me wrong, homage episodes can be cute every now and then but it’s starting to look like Psych is a show that only does homages of other shows.

Bloody Reunion. Retrospective: Lost Girl – “Ceremony”

How she has the wherewithal to resist is beyond me, because she hasn’t fed for a while and is definitely weak from hunger. The Fae may not be particularly fond of humans, but Stella disrespecting Bo’s close relationship with Kenzi makes me quite angry. If Stella feels this way about humans, then what of her opinion of Lauren?

The Gov Is That Cray Cray… Review: The Walking Dead – “Prey”

I can’t say I loved “Prey.” In fact, I don’t think it did anything but reassure me that the Governor is beyond insane. Add in his being a vengeful sociopath and you’ve really got trouble.

A Coming of Age Tale. Movie Review: My Brother the Devil

El Hosaini does an incredible job of putting a fresh face on a tired genre, treating her characters with respect, and providing us with a compelling tale of character development on two different levels. While the film has been marketed as ruthless gang fare, it is anything but. It is more a coming-of-age tale that deals with wanting, being powerless, and a struggle for sexual identity. This is a film that is not to be missed; my advice – go see it as soon as it is available.

Is This The New Normal? Review: The Vampire Diaries – “Bring It On”

I am sorely disappointed in “Bring It On.” It didn’t really… bring it. Something has been lost and it isn’t just the cure for immortality. At least the music is good.

A Flame Never Burns Out. Review: The Americans – “Duty and Honor”

In “Duty and Honor,” Philip works with a former love, Irina (Marina Squerciati), now renamed Anne, to frame Andrzej Bielawski (Andrzej Krukowski), a former Communist hero of Poland. It seems that putting a pretty woman in front of a man will make him forget the ever-important job at hand.

Dry Rub. Review: Psych – “Lassie Jerky”

The other day, I was tweeting that I’m not a fan of episodes directed by James Roday (who plays Shawn Spencer). It prompted a reply from Terry Goldman, Director of Social Media for USA Network who asked, “Why in particular? His directing always pays great homage to classic films.” I told Mr Goldman those episodes reminded me of the Sesame Street song, “One of These Things is Not Like the Other.”

The Test. Retrospective: Lost Girl – “Fae-ge Against the Machine”

I may not love Lauren (Zoie Palmer) to bits but I admire her skills as a scientist and the fact she’s a nerd. She made me giggle when she freaks out to Bo about unexpectedly winning a science research award, telling her a cute but lame joke: “Why do chemists like nitrates? Because they’re cheaper than day rates.” Like Bo, I didn’t get the joke right away, either, but Palmer’s delivery was spot on. Now that The Dawning is happening, will Bo have time for Lauren?

What To Do With Cousin Patrick? Review: Shameless – “When There’s a Will”

Season 3, Episode 8 Air Date: Sunday, March 10, 2013, 10 pm ET/PT on Showtime Rating: [rating=5]   With both Fiona (Emmy Rossum) and cousin Patrick (Brent Sexton) filing false wills, the Gallaghers have a fight on their hands over who’s going to inherit Aunt Ginger’s house. Lip (Jeremy Allen White) finds out Karen’s (Laura …
