A Fixer with a Heart. Review: Ray Donovan – “A Mouth is a Mouth”

“A Mouth is a Mouth” does a great job continuing the character study that was presented in the series premiere of Ray Donovan. Although we still don’t know why Ray (Liev Schreiber) set up his father Mickey (Jon Voigt), we do get some insight into who was involved and what happened.

Bill Is On Fire. Literally. Review: True Blood – “You’re No Good”

Well, well, well… I am pleasantly surprised by “You’re No Good.” The episode isn’t boring, doesn’t make me roll my eyes much, and gives me a few chuckles. Now I’m not saying I’m sold on this season of True Blood (TB) just yet, but “You’re No Good” is heading in the right direction.

It’s Just Sauce. Review: Graceland – “Pizza Box”

For months, Briggs (Daniel Sunjata) has been trying to meet with Bello (Gbenga Akinnagbe), the Nigerian crime lord. Once he does, Bello takes more of an interest in Mike’s (Aaron Tveit) shooting skills and tells Briggs to get lost. Mike is then faced with the difficult task of having to teach Bello’s men how to shoot better without actually helping them get better.

Not Everything Can Be Fixed. Advance Review: Ray Donovan Series Premiere – “The Bag or the Bat”

Showtime has another hit on its hands, and with so many characters to bring to life, and a multitude of stories to be told, I imagine Ray Donovan is sure to be around for a very long time to come.

Happy and Sad Times. Retrospective: Nurse Jackie Season Finale – “Soul”

So here we are, skidding into the season finale with Jackie and Frank’s relationship up in the air, Jackie and Kevin dealing with an extremely troubled Grace who is imitating her mother’s drug habit, and Jackie insisting both daughters should live with Kevin. And let’s not forget the sexual romp Zoey and Prentiss engaged in last week, and Coop’s hurt feelings where Carrie is concerned. “Soul” addresses all these issues, and so much more in an episode that simultaneously leaves you both happy and sad.

Those Three Little Words. Retrospective: Nurse Jackie – “Heart”

What a way to open “Heart.” Not only do Frank (Adam Ferrera) and Jackie (Edie Falco) have sex for the first time, but he admits his true feelings for her. What could have been an awkward moment becomes fun with the honest, light-hearted dialogue and terrific delivery by both Ferrera and Falco. Although, I did glimpse a bit of fear in Jackie’s eyes before she turns the light out. Could it be that not all is what it appears to be?

Meet Mike Warren. Review: Graceland Series Premiere – “Pilot”

FBI agent Mike Warren (Aaron Tveit), fresh out of the academy having graduated at the top of his class, is destined for Washington, DC until a series of events suddenly sends him to California. There, Mike lives at a beach house that has been nicknamed “Graceland,” where he must quickly learn how to be an undercover agent if he wants to fit in with the other inhabitants of the house.

Problems on the Homefront. Retrospective: Nurse Jackie – “Forget It”

People certainly do have strange ways of sabotaging themselves when they don’t think they are worthy. But that’s what I don’t get—why does Jackie think she’s undeserving of the love Frank seems so willing to bestow upon her? Is accepting real love the chink in Jackie’s armor?

Cake Mix. Review: Psych – “No Trout About It”

The Citizens of Santa Barbara are outraged when a high-speed police chase disrupts the Memorial Day 10k and police consultant Harris Trout (Anthony Michael Hall) is brought in to figure out what happened.

Lessons Learned…Maybe. Retrospective: Nurse Jackie – “Teachable Moments”

Season 5, Episode 7 Air Date: Sunday, May 26, 2013, 9 pm ET/PT on Showtime Rating: [rating=4]   “Teachable Moments” grabs me immediately with its opening scene. Officer Frank Verelli (Adam Ferrara) visits Jackie (Edie Falco) at All Saints to cancel their lunch date instead of sending her a text. “I’m gonna cancel by text …

Mr. Booty Man. Review: Psych – “Nip and Suck It”

Henry (Corbin Bernsen) comes across a dead body while out bird watching. (Yes, bird watching). This discovery revitalizes the passion and drive he had when he was a cop in search of killers. Only one problem, he’s no longer a cop.

Commotion in the ER. Retrospective: Nurse Jackie – “Walk of Shame”

Dr. Carrie Roman (Betty Gilpin). I know some women sleep their way to the top, but doctors? Doesn’t Coop realize how dangerous it is if he keeps stepping in for Carrie? How is she ever going to learn? Is sex that important to him? Oh, wait. We’re talking about Coop here. Seriously, I hate to think things like that happen in real life but I suppose they probably do, which is very frightening to me. It would be a lot better if Coop stepped up and helped Carrie by teaching her instead of doing her job for her. The world doesn’t need another ineffective doctor.

White Chocolate. Review: Psych – “Dead Air”

When Crock Daniels (Brent Chapman), a popular morning radio DJ, is shot while on the air, it’s up to Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) to not only find the killer, but to take over the radio show. Shawn as a radio DJ? How hard could that be?

A Varied Perspective. Advance No-Spoiler Review of Graceland – “Pilot”

Your Entertainment Corner (YEC) decided to take a different approach with this Advance Review of Graceland. We thought it might be fun, and informative, if each of us wrote about what we did or didn’t like about USA Network’s newest original dramatic series. So, here’s what we all have to say.

Jackie Goes on a Date. Retrospective: Nurse Jackie – “Good Thing”

Jackie’s revelation about how stressed she is about her date with Frank is honest and realistic. While it’s nice to see her smile, I think we all know how difficult this must be for her. It’s been a long time since she’s been out in the dating world. And Grace (Ruby Jerins) doesn’t help the situation any by sneaking out with her boyfriend Danny (Danny Flaherty) instead of being where she’s supposed to be.

For Fellow StarGazers… Book Review: “Enchanted by Starlight” by Tina L. Hook

I would recommend Enchanted by Starlight to anyone who enjoys paranormal aspects in a romance novel, and a good story of love lost, won, and let go.

Was I The Only One Looking Out For Zombies? Review: The Vampire Diaries – “The Walking Dead”

Consistency aside, “The Walking Dead” isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I’m somewhat looking forward to the season finale if for no other reason than to see how much terror The Five will bring about to the vampires in town.

Starfish Spencer. Review: Psych – “Office Space”

For much of season seven, I was concerned that Gus has been reduced to more of a minor character. At times, it even seems like Woody (Kurt Fuller) has been given scenes that in previous seasons would have been written for Gus. Psych has always been about the friendship between Shawn and Gus and when the writers deviate from that, they lose some of the show’s identity. Thankfully, “Office Space” is a fun episode that puts Shawn and Gus’ relationship back on track.

Colored Sticky Notes. Retrospective: Nurse Jackie – “Lost Girls”

I swear, if Jackie doesn’t go out with Frank, I will! He’s absolutely adorable and has a fantastic sense of humor. He reminds me of a big old teddy bear I want to squeeze to death. Plus, he always knows the right thing to say, and it’s obvious he respects Jackie and how important her job is to her. Wait! My mother always told me if it looks or sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Please don’t tell me Frank is going to end up being an asshole. That’s the last thing Jackie needs.

Blah, Blah, Fix Elena, Blah… Review: The Vampire Diaries – “She’s Come Undone”

What makes “She’s Come Undone” a not-quite-enjoyable-viewing experience for me is the lack of believability in some scenes and the predictability in others.

An Exciting Conclusion to a Stellar Season. Review: The Americans Season Finale – “The Colonel”

In an episode that is as intriguing and pulse pounding as a season finale can ever be, we see Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip (Matthew Rhys) come together when faced with a life or death situation.

A Sober Jackie is a Happy Jackie. Review: Nurse Jackie – “Smile”

It’s so nice to see Jackie and Kevin connecting again, making little jokes to each other and looking like the Jackie and Kevin of old, instead of carping at each other as has been the norm since Kevin found out Jackie was addicted to drugs. Why, oh why, do the writers take this away from us after a mere five minutes? I had such hope for them. I suppose it’s so Jackie can connect with Sergeant Frank Verelli (Adam Ferrara), who comes to the hospital to take her statement.

The Originals. Er… Review: The Vampire Diaries – “The Originals”

Maybe it’s just me, but “The Originals” comes across as a spin-off pilot that lacks a little something.

Joint Fruit Loops. Review: Psych – “Juliet Wears the Pantsuit”

Season seven has really been Juliet’s (Maggie Lawson) year, from entire episodes that focused on her and her character growth, to her kicking ass and saving the day. “Juliet Wears the Pantsuit” is no exception, especially since we get what looks like not only one Juliet, but two.

Secrets Revealed. Review: The Americans – “The Oath”

We’ve spent quite a bit of time examining the parallels between the Americans and the Soviets during the Cold War, and “The Oath” does a good job of continuing in that vein. It explores the similarities and differences between Martha (Alison Wright) and Clark/Philip’s (Matthew Rhys) friendship, and Stan’s (Noah Emmerich) relationship with Nina (Annet Mahendru), and shocks me with some of the outcomes.
