Season 4, Episode 21

Air Date: Thursday, May 2, 2013, 8/7c on The CW

RATING:

“It’s not gonna work, Damon.” – Elena Gilbert

What makes “She’s Come Undone” a not-quite-enjoyable viewing experience for me is the lack of believability in some scenes and the predictability in others. While some characters act out of… well, character, it pulls me out of the episode and confuses me. And though I expected the plan to save a wayward vampire would backfire, it doesn’t, leaving me scratching my head. None of the events during “She’s Come Undone” bring much excitement to the episode, and I’m beginning to wonder if the writers of The Vampire Diaries (TVD) are screwing with us. Is there going to be a huge finale that will knock our socks off, or will it be the same typical rigmarole? My patience grows thin, and I want my Originals back.

Observations and thoughts:

Have to admit, I didn't feel bad for Elena.

Have to admit, I didn’t feel bad for Elena.

Since when can vampires get into one another’s minds? Isn’t that strictly Silas (Scott Parks) territory? The only conclusion I can draw is I must have missed something when there was an info-dump regarding what Mystic Falls’ vampires can and can’t do. Or, this is just something else the writers pulled out of a bag of tricks to liven up the episode. Epic. Fail.

I never thought I’d see the day when the good guys resort to torture. It’s obvious Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) honestly believe the way to get Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) humanity back is by inflicting as much pain as possible. By my estimation, though, they don’t know jack. Who they need is Lexi (Arielle Kebbel). Now she knew how to flip a damn humanity switch. Or how about leaving Elena to her own devices? Granted, she’s a little off her rocker, but this is what I’ve been waiting for. I long to see her be more than the whiny teenage brat we see every week. Now that she’s gotten some fire under her butt, the Salvatore brothers seek to extinguish it.

Sorry, but why does Caroline (Candice Accola) drop her keys? No vampire reflexes anymore? What is this crap? And how can she outrun something in her head? I can’t be the only one who sees this, right?

“Silas is psychic. He can get into people’s heads, read their minds, and make them see things that aren’t really there.” Oh really? Didn’t realize that was the definition of a psychic. Come on, writers, you’ve gotta do better than this. I think Bonnie (Kat Graham) means to say he’s a telepath, but what do I know? I’ll tell you this, if you want me to believe the supernatural abilities of these characters, at least make sure they know what they’re talking about first.

I hope Matt gets a super power soon. I'm tired of him being so vulnerable.

Watching Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Caroline together gives me good vibes. His words to her make me wonder how long it will take before she finally gives in to that little voice that’s telling her “you know you want to.” It’s beyond obvious she wants to be with him as much as he wants to be with her. Besides that, the two have so much chemistry together, I’m waiting for one of them to spontaneously combust from all the heat. (Woot!) But knowing Klaus’ sole purpose for being in this episode is to terrorize Caroline bothers me. I’m concerned it will affect the way she feels about him in the long run. She knows it wasn’t really him, but it’ll be in her mind that he tried to hurt her. We don’t need any more roadblocks being thrown up for Klaus and Caroline. Let their love reign supreme already!

I’m so disappointed in what’s become of Bonnie and the other side characters. They don’t really have any set roles except for being the people the gang can run to when a touching monologue is needed. I’d like to think there’s more to Bonnie than being the witch everyone needs, but who knows? Matt (Zach Roerig) is no more than a blood bag and fall guy for Rebekah (Claire Holt) to fall in love with. Not only that, she’s fallen to the wayside and is nothing more than an annoyance. What happened to the cool girl who was out to rule her high school? These characters have all become duds and can disappear for all I care.

Referring to Silas, Bonnie says, “I am the only one who can see his true face.” So why do we see a flash of Silas in his true form when he’s going after Caroline? Can she see him as he is too, or was that a slipup by the director? I hate to point out so many glaring inconsistencies, but that one takes the cake.

Memorable/funny lines:

Elena: “What makes you such an expert on who I am?”

Caroline: “Because we’ve been friends forever.”

Elena: “I tried to kill you Caroline. I’m not exactly BFF material anymore. You should move on.”

**

Bonnie to Caroline: “Elena tried to kill me. I’m not quite ready to forgive and forget.”

**

Rebekah to Matt about Caroline: “You dated that?”

Matt: “She likes projects.”

**

Matt to Damon about allowing Katharine to ‘speak to’ Elena: “Are you out of your mind?”

Damon: “You got a better idea, prom king? Unless you want me to lock you up in there with her, I suggest you shut up and let the adults handle this.”

**

Torturing Elena hurt Damon more than anyone.

For some odd reason, Dobrev is able to perfect the character of Katharine more than she is Elena. I hate Dobrev as Elena; her acting is so bad you can actually tell she’s acting. As Katharine, I think she strays from her typical daily behavior and gets to play the bad girl we love to hate. But Elena is the goody-goody high schooler who doesn’t know how to be anything but whiny and all damsel-in-distress. Katharine kicks ass and doesn’t apologize for it. Unless Dobrev can find a happy medium between Elena and Katharine to be vampy Elena, I’d much rather we only see Katharine at this point. Let’s hope Elena doesn’t get to exact the revenge she’s plotting against Katharine because I’ll have no reason to watch TVD anymore, ever.
