Season 3, Episode 9

Air date: Monday, March 18, 2013, 10/9c, on Syfy

Rating:

I didn’t doubt Bo (Anna Silk) could successfully pass The Dawning but knew there would be consequences, which is why I held my breath throughout “Ceremony.” Just as I anticipated, something shocking does happen.

Will Kenzi’s fear of losing Bo become reality?

As hard as it may have been for her, Lauren (Zoie Palmer) is wise to give Bo her blessing so that Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) may accompany Bo as her “Hand” for The Dawning. Lauren knows she’s no help in this regard, and I think she’s realizing she’s no match for a lot of Fae-related matters. One step inside the portal, and she would’ve been dead.

But Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) has a more immediate concern: whether she’ll become an orphan if anything happens to Bo. But she needn’t worry given Trick’s (Rick Howland) reassurances to her. I loved this little scene between them especially with how parental Trick is toward Kenzi. In fact, the entire team feels the same way. I think they know Kenzi will stick around until the end of time. She’s a perfect example of loyalty.

Is Lauren realizing she’s losing her grip on Bo?

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Stella (Deborah Odell) after last week’s “Fae-ge Against the Machine,” but giving Bo such a tough challenge (“Stella’s model buffet”) shows us Stella knows exactly how to lure a Succubus, even though she excuses it away as being the prep for the ultimate test. Luckily, Bo doesn’t fall for it. How she has the wherewithal to resist is beyond me, because she hasn’t fed for a while and is definitely weak from hunger. The Fae may not be particularly fond of humans, but Stella disrespecting Bo’s close relationship with Kenzi makes me quite angry. If Stella feels this way about humans, then what of her opinion of Lauren? Doesn’t Stella have something to say about Bo being intimate with a human? I think deep friendship should trump romance because sex always gets in the way of everything. And there’s no way Lauren can ever be objective about anything involving Bo.

OK, Dyson’s confession of his love for Bo is so overdue and, predictably, she’s a little pissed off about it. For one, the timing is all wrong! She’s in the middle of a huge Fae test and he tells her he still loves her?!  And what’s up with the obvious rip-off from the film Notting Hill? I hated Julia Roberts’ character in that scene (it was soppy porridge), and seeing Holden-Ried say this very line made me cringe:

Dyson: “Look, I’m just a wolf standing in front of a Succubus, asking her … I deserved that.”
Bo: “You are the most frustrating, stubborn, ass face that I have ever met.”

While I understand Bo’s reaction, I think she’s more relieved she doesn’t have to keep wondering about Dyson’s feelings anymore. Did you see the look on Lauren’s face during Bo and Dyson’s tearful reunion? I may sound like a beast for saying this but I didn’t feel bad for her at all. It seems right for Bo and Dyson to be together, and hopefully, now Bo will do the humane thing and break things off with Lauren—for Lauren’s sake.

Bo goes dark side for a moment

Were you expecting things to end the way they did? The emergence of Bo’s dark side scares everyone. What will happen now that Bo claims to have the choice of who lives and who dies?
