Mama Saves the Day. Retrospective: Lost Girl Season Finale – “Those Who Wander”

Mama Saves the Day. Retrospective: Lost Girl Season Finale - "Those Who Wander" 1

It’s quite the detour seeing a human side to a member of the Dark Fae’s protective squad because we never get a chance to hate them. Instead, they’re intimidating hulks so it’s nice to see someone have an actual conversation with Bruce. He’s the one who tells Kenzi she was protected from The Morrigan by the Twig of Zamora.

Humans vs. Fae. Retrospective: Lost Girl - "Hail, Hale" 2

“Hail, Hale” is a fast and furious episode, uncovering Tamsin’s (Rachel Skarsten) betrayal of Bo (Anna Silk), Kenzi’s (Ksenia Solo) human nature putting her in danger with the Fae, Lauren (Zoie Palmer) making a heady discovery, and Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) having to fight a mortal enemy Fae to save his life.

The color red plays a dominant role throughout “Delinquents”: Bo wears a red negligee, Lauren (Zoie Palmer) wears a red button down blouse, and Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten) wears a really low-cut red shirt. Red, being an intense color that elicits strong emotions, especially love, is meant to symbolize the feelings these three women have for each other (well, except for Lauren and Tamsin but the common denominator here is Bo).

How she has the wherewithal to resist is beyond me, because she hasn’t fed for a while and is definitely weak from hunger. The Fae may not be particularly fond of humans, but Stella disrespecting Bo’s close relationship with Kenzi makes me quite angry. If Stella feels this way about humans, then what of her opinion of Lauren?

A Flame Never Burns Out. Review: The Americans - "Duty and Honor" 5

In “Duty and Honor,” Philip works with a former love, Irina (Marina Squerciati), now renamed Anne, to frame Andrzej Bielawski (Andrzej Krukowski), a former Communist hero of Poland. It seems that putting a pretty woman in front of a man will make him forget the ever-important job at hand.

Lost Girl Press Call - Anna Silk, Ksenia Solo and Kris Holden-Ried Discuss Season Three and What We Can Expect from Season Four (Shhh!) 6

In a press call that took place March 7, 2013, actors Anna Silk, Ksenia Solo and Kris Holden-Ried took time out of their busy schedules to field questions about season three and to celebrate the renewal of season four. Naturally, I’m ecstatic about this as I’m a loyal Lost Girl viewer. Read on to find out what the actors have to say about season three.

The Test. Retrospective: Lost Girl - "Fae-ge Against the Machine" 7

I may not love Lauren (Zoie Palmer) to bits but I admire her skills as a scientist and the fact she’s a nerd. She made me giggle when she freaks out to Bo about unexpectedly winning a science research award, telling her a cute but lame joke: “Why do chemists like nitrates? Because they’re cheaper than day rates.” Like Bo, I didn’t get the joke right away, either, but Palmer’s delivery was spot on. Now that The Dawning is happening, will Bo have time for Lauren?

Life's a Bowl of Cherries. Review: Lost Girl - "There's Bo Place Like Home" 8

Acknowledging that her adoptive mother Mary (Nola Auguston) is “a warped bigot,” Bo realizes returning home isn’t easy but Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) as her sidekick makes it a bit more tolerable.

Granted, Dyson got his head messed up by Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten), who we now know is a Valkyrie with the power to plant doubts in people’s heads. It bugged me that not one of them gives Bo the benefit of the doubt except Tamsin, who notices Kenzi’s odd behavior.

Retrospective: Lost Girl, "Faes Wide Shut" 10

It’s a veritable smorgasbord for Bo, and she delights in it. Not so for Lauren, who tries her best not to show her insecurity, but Bo has the wherewithal to be guarded about her lust.

The Human vs. The Big Bad Wolf. Retrospective: Lost Girl, S3 Ep 4 - "Fae-de to Black" 11

Monogamy is not in Bo’s (Anna Silk) vocabulary but she’s willing to make a go of it with Lauren (Zoie Palmer). Like Kenzi (Ksenia Solo), Lauren’s humanness will be her undoing—she’s in for a world of hurt if she thinks she can set down a ground rule like “No Dyson.” No DICE, lady.

My Superhero BFF. Review: Lost Girl, S3 Ep 3 – “ConFaegion”

My Superhero BFF. Review: Lost Girl, S3 Ep 3 - "ConFaegion" 12

Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) is proving herself to be an even better sidekick (albeit with the aid of a Fae weapon). Too bad it takes the gang—Bo (Anna Silk), Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried), Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten)—being out of commission for her to step up and solve the mystery of why the team has been reduced to a group of horny teenagers.

Lana Banana. Review: Season Finale, American Horror Story: Asylum, S2 Ep 13 - "Madness Ends" 13

“Madness Ends” is an extremely satisfying end to a horrific season that saw various gruesome abuses and deaths at the Catholic Church-run Briarcliff Manor, the insane asylum handily shut down by the intrepid Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson).

In a recent conference call—in which she waxed poetic about costars Jessica Lange and James Cromwell, the relationship between Dr. Arden and Sister Mary Eunice, and her character portrayal—Rabe was ebullient and generous in her responses, and often laughed throughout.

Looking for a New Love. Review: Lost Girl, S3 Ep 2 - "Subterrfaenean" 16

Lauren (Zoie Palmer) and Bo (Anna Silk) are officially together. They muster plenty of steam, but the prolonged lovemaking between the two is sullied by Lauren’s insecurity: “The last two nights you’ve woken up screaming. Is committing to me that terrible?” Her insecurity is perplexing.

Grace, however, can’t forget what she’s gone through, drawing picture after picture of the aliens, while Alma would rather leave what happened in the past. The two women’s coping mechanisms couldn’t be more different. But the relative calm of their lives is shattered when their house is set on fire. Alma has flashbacks of her abduction, rendering her inconsolable.

Now, for the past three weeks, she’s been indulging in a new-found life as a nihilist, blithely throwing around her Succubus powers and smashing every Fae law to the ground.

When Lana returns to take the Sister from Briarcliff, he tells her Sister Jude hanged herself, and shows the death certificate as proof. What a little sh*t! He’s become emboldened now that Dr. Arden is dead and there’s no threat of anyone finding out about the doctor’s monstrous experiments on the patients. The measly little monsignor should’ve died on that cross.

Patient G2573. Review: American Horror Story: Asylum, S2 Ep 10 - "The Name Game" 20

Her duty as Grace’s (Lizzie Brocheré) protector feels a little out of place. I mean, why Pepper and not one of the other patients? We do learn why she ended up at Briarcliff but a deeper exploration of her background would’ve fleshed out her character more. I suspect, though, the writers have placed more import on the main characters now that American Horror Story: Asylum is drawing to a close.

A Talk with American Horror Story: Asylum’s Jessica Lange

The younger generation may not be familiar with Jessica Lange’s earlier work, but in a recent telephone interview on December 7, she says she’s grateful for the wider viewing audience for American Horror Story: Asylum, in which she portrays the tortured Sister Jude.

Sister Jude might be in shackles now, stripped of her clerical standing, but she’s allowed some room to roam the asylum. I’m counting the days until Sister Jude uses her wits to turn the place upside down. Just because she’s out of her nun’s habit doesn’t mean her power as a woman has diminished any.

Death At Your Door. Retrospective: American Horror Story: Asylum, S2 Ep 8 – “Unholy Night”

Death At Your Door. Retrospective: American Horror Story: Asylum, S2 Ep 8 - "Unholy Night" 22

There’s no way, in the hell that’s Briarcliff, there can’t be a dark side to this otherwise cheerful (for most) holiday. Santa, whose real name is Leigh Emerson (Ian McShane), turned evil during his first stint in jail for a petty crime. Can’t say I blame him with what he endured, but he’s gone to the extreme.

Angel On My Shoulder. Review: American Horror Story: Asylum, S2 Ep 7- “Dark Cousin”

Angel On My Shoulder. Review: American Horror Story: Asylum, S2 Ep 7- "Dark Cousin" 23

Sister Jude is no lily-white saint but I have felt terrible for her ever since learning about her hit-and-run accident. Although, I breathed a sigh of relief when she learns the girl survived, and is now a grown woman with a baby. We are treated to a flashback of her life before becoming a nun, a life she lived as a hard-drinking songstress.

Nun Too Possessed. Review: American Horror Story: Asylum, S2 Ep 6, "The Origins of Monstrosity" 24

This will become a battle of the wits—Lana learns quickly she can appeal to the lonely son inside of Thredson and present herself as a mother figure (“A mother’s love is unconditional. Everyone deserves that, even you. Baby. My baby”) to escape his murderous clutches. Watching this little cat and mouse game, it could go either way.
