So, who did Lauren (Zoie Palmer) call at the end of last week’s episode? We don’t know, but I think it was Trick (Rick Howland), because when Bo (Anna Silk) claims Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) isn’t really Kenzi, no one believes her. When you know someone so well and are familiar with all of their quirks and habits, you know something is off when your BFF is acting downright odd.

Does this look like Kenzi to you?

In “The Kenzi Scale,” Trick (Rick Howland), doubting Bo’s claim, locks her up because of her attacks on Dark Fae. I guess I can excuse the gang for not knowing better—Bo and Kenzi share a close friendship not many people are privy to. But… Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried)?? I was baffled by his cluelessness because of the dynamic he shares with Kenzi, and how close they’ve grown. (And Lauren’s not off the hook, either.) Granted, Dyson got his head messed up by Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten), who we now know is a Valkyrie with the power to plant doubts in people’s heads. It bugged me that not one of them gives Bo the benefit of the doubt except Tamsin, who notices Kenzi’s odd behavior. Isn’t it curious how it takes a newcomer to notice something’s off? That’s what happens when you’re too close to something to see things clearly.

The Morrigan wants Bo

It’s the Inari-a Fox Fae called the Kitsune-who’s using Kenzi’s body to try to insinuate herself into Bo’s team. I couldn’t help but feel for the Inari because all she wants is a friend. Her social graces, however, need more honing because being clingy is not a way to make friends. You can see a lesson there. Note to Inari: Bo hates coconut ice cream!

Solo does a seamless job of playing a clingy Kitsune, cocking her head this way and that in a way that screams “not Kenzi,” and adopting a tone of voice so unlike Kenzi’s. She even uses a slightly whiny voice that is almost irritating to hear. I didn’t catch on to the change in Kenzi’s behavior straightaway, or even her clinginess (because, come on, haven’t we all been that way at one time or another?), and that’s all to Solo’s credit for pulling off such a nuanced performance.

The best part of “The Kenzi Scale” is Bo and Tamsin working together to find Kenzi. Although The Morrigan (Emmanuelle Vaugier) has ordered Tamsin to bring Bo to her, I get the feeling Tamsin is warming to Bo’s crew, especially after Bo explains her relationship with Kenzi:

Bo and Tamsin search for Kenzi

Tamsin: “What’s so great about Kenzi, anyway?”
Bo: “She’s Kenzi. She’s smart and honest and kind. And, she makes me feel normal and special.”

The curious look on Tamsin’s face is telling; she’s obviously not familiar with such closeness to humans. Bo and Tamsin also have a terrific chemistry that doesn’t necessarily scream sex even when Bo feeds off her. Tamsin’s wry statement, “I said you could feed off me, not suck me dry,” is funny and shows a lighter side to her. I can’t say enough about what a terrific addition Skarsten is to Lost Girl; I’m very much looking forward to Tamsin becoming a part of Bo’s group especially now with Bo possibly devolving in the face of The Dawning. Trick’s afraid for her, and so am I.
