The Walking Dead – “Them” Review. What’s for Dinner?

I enjoyed “Them” and loved how Reedus, Cohen, and Martin-Greene peeled back the layers on their characters.

– “Rule No. 46: Keep the Holidays Low Key”

Ghosts are front and center in this week’s installment of Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce (#GG2D). So is the realization of what family means for more than one character. We are also witness to a rather volatile Thanksgiving celebration in “Rule No. 46: Keep the Holidays Low Key” (“Rule 46”) that teaches a lesson to more than one person.

The Walking Dead – “What Happened and What’s Going On” Review. Someone Becomes a Chew Toy.

Now that season five is continuing, where do you think the survivors will end up next?

Shameless – “Rite of Passage” Retrospective. Reality Can Be a Bitch.

Generally speaking, “Rite of Passage” is a very entertaining episode. Writer Etan Frankel does a good job with the dialogue, especially between Fiona and Gus, Fiona and Lip, and Frank and Laura. I also enjoy how much Debbie and Carl are connecting, working together on their various schemes.

The Voices Review. A Movie Heard Loud, But Not So Clear

We all have that little voice in our heads that tells us to do good or bad things. The Voices takes that concept to a whole other level…

The Americans– “Baggage” Retrospective. Looking Ahead.

All three of these plot points open the door to some very interesting scenarios, some with far-reaching consequences. As swiftly as the scenes unfold is how quickly time passes when watching this captivating episode of The Americans.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce – “Rule No. 3: Don’t Stand in the Doorway” Retrospective. Facing Your Fears.

“Rule No. 3: Don’t Stand in the Doorway” does a great job of addressing the fears in all of us. From the simplest—Charlie’s fear of the dark—to the more serious—Delia’s fear of commitment, and Abby’s avoidance of Will (Warren Christie), everyone faces their worst fears in “Rule No. 3.”

Shameless – “A Night to Remem-Wait, What?” Review. Easy Come, Easy Go

“A Night to Remem-Wait, What?” is, without a doubt, the best episode of the season so far. Episodic writer Davey Holmes outdoes himself with the ongoing story lines and brilliant dialogue. The episode revolves mainly around Fiona and Frank, and both Rossum and Macy steal almost every scene they’re in.

Wild Card Review. Too Clustered To Enjoy

When was the last time you saw Jason Statham in a good film? Let me save you the trouble of looking at IMDb; it’s been awhile…

The Americans Season 3 Premiere – “EST Men” Review. The Saga Continues.

“EST Men” unfortunately lacks the suspense, intensity, and passion that was so prevalent in previous seasons, except for the opening scene, which had me holding my breath. That is not to say I didn’t enjoy the season premiere, as I did. “EST Men” is too busy setting up the third season of The Americans to include the same level of action sequences we’ve seen before. It would be unreasonable to expect that. I’m sure there will be plenty of edge-of-your-seat scenes to thrill us as the season moves forward.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce – “Rule 32: F-You, Rob Frumpkis!” Retrospective. Lessons Learned.

I can always tell when Noxon puts on her writer’s cap—I find myself with an idiotic Cheshire grin on my face throughout the majority of the episode. “Rule 32” fits the bill, particularly during Edelstein and Christie’s scenes together. They have such amazing chemistry onscreen, I could almost close my eyes and feel the emotions bouncing off them. Of course, director Robert Duncan McNeill deserves kudos for the way he sets up the scenes.

Backstrom – “Dragon Slayer” Review. Been There, Seen That

The two most commonly aired shows today are either about detectives/cops or the medical field. Somewhere in the human psyche, we are interested in people who save lives and/or investigate the mystery of the week. Backstrom is a detective series that tries to be fun, witty, gritty, and interesting, but it just tries too hard.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce – “Rule 17: Ask the Answer Lady!” Review. Tellin’ It Like It Is.

The combination of comedic and dramatic scenes is what Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce (#GG2D) does extremely well. In “Rule 17: Ask the Answer Lady!” (“Rule 17”), Director Brian Dannelly knows exactly when to mix humor into an otherwise serious scene, and when not to. As a matter of fact, the very first scene of “Rule 17” is total comedy at its best and had me laughing out loud from the first shot.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce – “Rule 67: Don’t Kill the Princess” Retrospective. It’s Complicated.

“Rule 67” has the usual superb acting we’ve come to expect, especially in the scenes with Edelstein and Adelstein. They have great onscreen chemistry. Director Daisy Von Scherler Mayer gives us perfection with her direction of the characters and scenes. I love the way she positions Phoebe when Ralf goes to get the necklace, and then shows the disappointment on her face while bathing it in sunlight.

12 Monkeys -“Pilot” Review. Come With Me If You Want ALL OF US to Live

Coming to a flat screen/laptop/smartphone near you, is the new Syfy series 12 Monkeys, based on Terry Gilliam’s film of the same name. Just so you know kids, time travel is not full of fun and games like Doctor Who makes it out to be. At least that’s what we are shown when watching 12 Monkeys. It’s painful, confusing, full of rules, and death.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce – “Rule 33: When in Doubt, Run Away” Retrospective. Everyone Has Problems.

Season 1, Episode 6 Air Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2014, 10/9 on Bravo Rating: [rating=4]   “Nobody truly interesting is universally liked.” – Carl “Rule 33: When in Doubt, Run Away” (“Rule 33”) continues along the same lines as last week’s episode of Girlfriend’s Girl to Divorce (GG2D) in that it addresses some serious topics …

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce – “Rule 426 – Fantasyland: A Great Place to Visit” Retrospective. Abby’s First Date.

Season 1, Episode 4 Air Date: Tuesday, December 23, 2014, 10/9 on Bravo Rating: [rating=5]   Everyone has problems. In this week’s installment of Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce (GG2D), Abby (Lisa Edelstein) must figure out how to move forward now that she’s accepted the demise of her marriage to Jake (Paul Adelstein). Lyla (Janeane Garofalo) needs …

Homeland – “Krieg Nicht Lieb” Retrospective. Revenge.

As penultimate episodes go, “Krieg Nicht Lieb” is a tad disappointing. While it does have some exciting, suspenseful moments, it’s short—like last week’s episode—to the tune of lasting only 45 minutes. Also, it’s a filler episode at best, even with its compelling moments. “Krieg Nicht Lieb” leaves us with too many questions unanswered, most importantly how will the Haqqani story line end?

The Walking Dead – “Coda” Review. Betcha Didn’t See That Coming.

There is no question as to why The Walking Dead is one of my favorite shows on television now. I’m still in shock, still reeling over the direction in which the show is going but excited to see how it all plays out.

The Walking Dead – “Crossed” Review. Suicide Missions ‘R Us.

Tune in to the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead, Sunday, November 30 at 9/8c, only on AMC.

Homeland – “There’s Something Else Going On” Retrospective. Live or Die.

“There’s Something Else Going On” moves the story lines ahead beautifully while providing some interesting character studies of both Saul and Dennis. The two men couldn’t be more opposite if they tried. Patinkin and Moses provide top-notch acting, as do Danes, Robins, and O’Keefe, along with some stellar writing. With only three episodes left in the season, and with the ending of the episode, I can’t help wondering where Homeland is going next.

Homeland – “Halfway to a Donut” Retrospective. Escape or Die.

Season 4, Episode 8 Air Date: Sunday, November 16, 2014, 9:00 pm ET/PT on Showtime Rating: [rating=4]   “Don’t do it; don’t do it. Nothing they ask; don’t do it. Not anything, not a fucking thing. You tell them to go to fucking hell; tell them to go to fucking hell!” – Saul Berenson “Halfway …

The Walking Dead – “Self Help” Review. The Mullet Lied.

I appreciate the foray into the other survivors’ stories. Getting to know these strangers makes them closer to family in a way.

Homeland – “Redux” Retrospective. Full Circle.

Homeland has spent the majority of this season trying to recreate itself following two seasons of not-so-great ratings, specifically by giving us a Carrie Mathison who seems to have her head on straight…Now, in “Redux,” due to a sneaky switch in medications, Carrie becomes paranoid, giving us bipolar Carrie 1.0 once again—something I thought we wouldn’t see since it failed to work in any other season than the first.
