Will She Be the Next Woman in the White House? Review: Veep “Fundraiser”

I love this show. There’s profanity (tons of f-bombs!), chaos and the best frigging writing on a comedy show to date. Veep is funny in ways you don’t expect and I’m definitely staying away from any beverages while watching.

Jackie Has Trouble Coping. Review: Nurse Jackie – “The Wall”

Against medical advice, Jackie (Edie Falco) leaves rehab because her daughter Grace (Ruby Jerins) is wearing eyeliner. What the hell? As with everything else in her life, Jackie chooses not to deal, instead using Grace’s makeup as an excuse to walk away from the only thing that will probably save her life. I don’t understand that. Jackie is a smart woman who says she wants to get better, but doesn’t use the one tool that will help. I guess she’s not really ready.

Who’s the Hotter Couple – Tyler and Caroline or Damon and Elena? Review: The Vampire Diaries “Heart of Darkness”

I’m not sure I enjoy these little hiatuses. Yes, I crave the hour that will bring my favorite characters to life on screen, but I also want to scream at the network for holding out on me so long. Why the two weeks off?

Schmidt As A Baby Daddy? Say It Ain’t So! Review: New Girl “Kids”

Even with the few issues I have with “Kids,” I laughed more than I griped. I can’t wait to see what the writers of New Girl have in store for us next. I’m definitely going to have to remember not to drink anything while watching because this show is a choking hazard.

Fae Chaos. Review: Lost Girl – “Something Wicked this Fae Comes”

When Dyson appears halfway through the episode, man, was I glad to see him. Det. Hale is a fine investigator, and I love his verbal ping ponging with Kenzi, but Bo and Dyson are a team. They just… fit. And Bo knows it. When she notices his seeming disinterest and aloofness, she tells him:
Bo: “As a team, we are pretty unbeatable. And, that is what is needed right now. You and I being Team Badass. You are going to put on your big-wolf pants and you’re gonna come with me and kick some tail. Or, I’m going to start kicking your tail.”

Things Are Getting A Little Too Predictable. Review: Smash – “The Movie Star”

“The Movie Star” is appropriately titled as this week, we finally meet Rebecca Duvall (Uma Thurman). And guess what? She can’t sing! The disbelieving looks on everyone’s faces as they listen to her sing “Let Me Be Your Star” are comical, to say the least. Is having a huge movie star more important than having your leading lady carry a tune? This is a musical, after all.

A Taxing Day. Review: 2 Broke Girls – And the Messy Purse Smackdown

With Caroline helping Max out, Max starts having visions of becoming “billionaire bitches” and daydreaming of outlandish things they’ll get if they strike it rich. For someone who is pretty street smart, Max appears to live in a bubble, oblivious to important matters, like doing her taxes! Although, her behavior when it comes to finances is a pretty accurate representation of middle America.

I Think I’d Watch Out for Janek… Review: The Killing “Ogi Jun”

The Killing is a serious drama series but it’s infused with some comedic aspects. I laughed while watching Jamie trying to lift Richmond from his bed. I knew it wouldn’t end up good and of course, it doesn’t. But there’s something about the way the scene plays out that catches my attention.

Review: Girls, S1, E1 – “Pilot” – The Voice of a Generation

The concept of a TV show about four girlfriends (one of them a writer) navigating through life, work and dating in NYC has a definite Sex and the City ring to it but in the new HBO series Girls, this is as far as the parallels go. Girls isn’t the escapist glamorized portrayal of life in New York; it’s a refreshing and genuine take on a generation in flux: twenty-somethings who are striving to find their place and meaning in the world while not being ready to be cut off from the parental umbilical cord.

“…smuggling Diana Ross in her panties.” Review: #TheBigC – S3 “What’s Your Story?”

I love The Big C! It rings true to life because life isn’t always the white picket fence surrounding pristine flower gardens in the front yard. Paul blogs family secrets away, Cathy is getting drunk and arm wrestling, and Adam joins a bible group. Meanwhile, Sean and Andrea bond as he teaches her how to wrap an African head scarf.

A Bat Shit Toe Poker, A Porcelain Clown Nut, and A Teenage Pill Popper. Review: Nurse Jackie – “Disneyland Sucks”

“Disneyland Sucks” is both the title of this week’s episode and what Jackie (Edie Falco) say to Dr. O’Hara (Eve Best) and Gloria Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) on a stolen cell phone. After five days of restless and erratic sleep, Jackie finally lifts her head off her pillow only to see a strange woman poking her toe with a fork. The Jackie we know would have lambasted the woman, who happens to be her roommate, but this subdued Jackie merely goes back to sleep to wake another day. I want my feisty Nurse Jackie back!

I Seriously Want to Play True Americans! Review: New Girl “Normal”

I’m not exactly sure what “Normal” is supposed to be about, but it doesn’t matter because I love every minute of it. The dialogue is witty, ridiculous and what I’ve been missing about New Girl.

Review: Justified – S3 Finale “Slaughterhouse” (Sometimes blood isn’t thicker) #JustifiedFX

It’s a chaotic night as paramedics and fire trucks surround the scene outside of Boyd’s (Walton Goggins) bar where Duffy (Jere Burns) blew up the car Quarles (Neal McDonough) was driving. There are many moments of exciting tension throughout “Slaughterhouse,” but something is missing. And we finally get to see Limehouse’s “piggy bank.”

Drugged Up. Review: 2 Broke Girls – “And the Drug Money”

Showing what a true friend she is, Max offers Caroline $100 from their cupcake fund (in addition to $500 of the clinical drug money) to hire Caroline’s father’s attorney Leo Hutchinson (Josh Pais) to depose her. Amusing is watching Max’s fascination with Law & Order and trying to impress everyone with her knowledge of court proceedings: “Anything I can do to help? I’m pretty courtroom savvy. I mean, I haven’t seen every episode of ‘Law & Order.’ Just, like 400 of them.”

Cheap Kills. Review: Lost Girl – “Bloodlines”

Ah, we see Kenzi has a soft spot! She reads trashy romance novels in secret. She’s a huge sucker for love stories, which is why she begrudgingly accepts Dyson’s plea for help after he tells her he loves Bo. What a softie! There’s no way she can say no to that. Maybe Det. Hale (K.C. Collins) will be her honey next season?

Flourishing and Crumbling Relationships. Review: Smash – “Understudy”

Movie star Rebecca Duvall (Uma Thurman) signs on for “Bombshell” but is a no show at rehearsals. Julia (Debra Messing) suffers the fallout of her affair with Michael (Will Chase). Karen (Katharine McPhee) is asked to be Rebecca’s understudy, and problems arise between John (Neal Bledsoe) and Tom (Christian Borle). What an entertaining episode “Understudy” turns out to be!

Holder Has Gone Off The Deep End… Review: The Killing “Numb”

I tell you, each time it seems we get closer to pinning down a firm suspect, three more are thrown into the mix. I don’t know who to suspect, what to believe, or how to figure out the truth. At this point, I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the ride.

“And the Oscar goes to, dot dot dot.” Review: Nurse Jackie – “Kettle Kettle Black Black”

Finally, Jackie (Edie Falco) accepts responsibility for all the crap in her life! In the season three finale of this wonderful dark comedy, Gloria Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) tossed Jackie’s (Edie Falco) urine sample in the trash, and Jackie told Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) to pack his things after he confesses to an affair. “Kettle Kettle Black Black” deals with the aftermath of those occurrences and introduces us to a new and welcome addition to the cast. Grace (Ruby Jerins) is stealing, while Jackie seeks to drown her sorrows in booze and drugs. In addition, All Saints is being taken over by Quantum Bay, a big conglomerate, and there are a lot of changes in the wind.

Review: The Big C – S3 – “Thin Ice” (bonfire of maxi pads and a wedding dress)

“Thin Ice” is funny, sarcastic, endearing, and a bit sorrowful. If this episode is any indication of what the season will bring, grab your Depends and defibrillators; it’s going to be one hell of a ride! And surprise! My theory – “wild hair variety” – about Paul’s (Oliver Platt) death was right!

None of These Secrets Are Worth Revealing… Review: New Girl “Secrets”

New Girl is finally getting back its funny streak. I only hope it continues throughout the rest of the season.

Review: #JustifiedFX “Coalition” (A whole lot of double-crossing and way too much naked Quarles)

Co-a-li-tion [koh-uh-lish-uhn] – noun. 1. A combination or alliance, especially a temporary one between persons, factions, states, etc.
If you were hoping for a stupendous coalition to ignite the slow simmering war, well you’re shit out of luck. After eagerly anticipating a climatic penultimate episode prior to the season finale, I am disappointed. All we get are too many people double crossing one another with a whole lot of stupidity running rampant.

Review: Lost Girl “(Dis)Members Only” – Human du Jour with Mixed Greens

““I don’t want anyone else’s hand on your body. I don’t want anyone’s mouth on yours…” ~ Dyson
Every week, we’re introduced to a new species of Fae, whether it be of the light or dark variety, and the cases seem to get a bit stranger, which suits me just fine. Bo and Dyson go undercover as husband and wife at the posh country club where the illegal immigrant staff seems to turn up missing more often than not.

The Affair is Revealed with Devastating Results. Review: Smash, S1, E9 – “Hell on Earth”

Eileen (Angelica Huston) insists on a new name and star for the musical if they are to go forward. Karen (Katharine McPhee) lands a national commercial for orange juice, beating out Ivy (Megan Hilty) which, needless to say, irritates the hell out of her. Speaking of Ivy, she’s taking more medications than she should. Much to his chagrin, Tom (Christian Borle) learns John (Neal Bledsoe) is a Republican, which throws a kink into their relationship. Plus, Frank (Brian d’Arcy James) has a showdown with Michael (Will Chase) after finding out about Julia’s (Debra Messing) affair with him. Once again, we find ourselves in the middle of a soap opera-ish episode but that’s ok, I like it; “Hell on Earth” keeps my interest as we delve deeper into the characters’ personalities.

I Expected More… Review: Season Two Premiere, The Killing – Episodes 1 and 2 – “Reflections”, “My Lucky Day”

My feelings are torn. I wasn’t sure what to expect during the two-hour second season premiere of The Killing and I’m left scratching my head at what I’ve watched.

Can Someone Please Get the Baby Out of the Dryer?! My Review: Season Finale of Shameless – “Fiona Interrupted”

What a fitting way to end the season. Not only does “Fiona Interrupted” deal with the fallout from last week’s episode—Monica’s (Chloe Webb) attempted suicide, and Sheila (Joan Cusack) and Jody (Zach McGowan) kidnapping Karen’s (Laura Slade Wiggins) newborn baby boy—it gives us a lot to look forward to for season three. However, as season finales go, this one doesn’t have the surprise or wow factor of last week’s “Just like the Pilgrims.” That’s not to say I don’t like “Fiona Interrupted,” because I certainly do.
