The writers must have read my mind because they granted my wish—to  have a stronger Hale (K.C. Collins) presence on Lost Girl. Collins is a natural, playing Hale as a concerned yet light-hearted partner to Dyson. Seeing him with Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) in the kitchen, helping her create some strange concoction to snap Bo (Anna Silk) out of her grief, is a sweet little scene and I was left just wanting more of… Hale. He’s like the male version of Kenzi; you like having them around because they always make you feel better. They are rocks of support.

Trick (Rick Howland) escorts Bo (Anna Silk) to the Stag Hunt ceremony

As expected, Bo is grieving the loss of Dyson’s (Kris Holden-Ried) love. But seeing her swinging on a swing in her bedroom, clad only in a red negligee, seems slightly bizarre. Even though she’s adept at hiding her grief, this made me even sadder for her. Does she really hope to win Dyson back by showing more “cleavage”? She obviously doesn’t know anything about The Norn (Kate Trotter), because if it were that easy to win someone back, shoot, The Norn would be practically powerless. I suppose Bo can be forgiven for her naiveté considering she’s still a newcomer to the Fae world. She consults with Trick (Rick Howland) to find out more about The Norn, but the appearance of The Blackthorn (Conrad Coates) interferes.

The storyline about The Ash being replaced through a Stag hunt was only of minimal interest to me. First, why is The Ash being replaced if he’s not been announced as dead yet? I mean, what’s the rush? Isn’t his position such that choosing a replacement should be carefully considered? Testing candidates through methods like hunting skills and using Fae powers made me think perhaps The Ash’s position carries little power after all. If he can be so easily replaced, then the balance of power is indeed fragile right now in the Fae world. What this portends is anyone’s guess.

Sabine (Natalie Brown) at the Stag Hunt

It’s fitting that Bo would come across the case of ill-fated lovers, the woman a Light Fae and her lover, Dark Fae. Sabine the Stag (Natalie Brown) escapes from prison to seek Bo’s help in finding her lover, Hamish (Chris Hoffman). Bo’s heart is breaking so she’s going to fight harder to reunite the star-crossed lovers. The thing is, to me this storyline is boring, along with seeking The Ash’s replacement. I couldn’t care less about it, and was more interested in seeing some sort of peace happening between Bo and Dyson. Seeing Dyson stalk around all disaffected while Bo grieves her lost love is what I’m more concerned about, but I know good things come to those who wait (read: people who are patient, which I am not!) so I expect these two to be together at some point. The question is, how long will it take to destroy The Norn’s power?

Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) lacks all emotion for Bo

Observations and thoughts:

  • Seeing Bo in the red dress at the Stag Hunt ceremony was a sight. The dress was beautifully made. I’d like to know who the designer of that dress is because I want it!
  • Watching Bo trying in vain to seduce Dyson was painful to witness. She even goes so far as to abuse her Succubus powers, which makes her feel guiltier. This is exactly why he avoids “the talk.” Seeing the dead love in his eyes would’ve broken my heart, too. He feels terrible for not feeling a thing. This makes for a whole lot of ‘suckitude.’
  • Watching Hale and Kenzi work together as a team just makes my heart flutter. We need to see more people of color on television, STAT, and more interracial relationships.
  • The last scene with Bo and Kenzi commiserating in the living room ends the episode on a mournful note. Silk pulls off this scene quite well, imbuing Bo with a deep sadness for love lost.

Now that The Ash has been replaced by Lachlan (Vincent Walsh), what will become of the old Ash and ensuing Fae affairs? Stay tuned. Things are about to heat up!
