You have to wonder if touching and burning the Walkers spreads the infection.

Welcome back to zombieland where your loved one might just be waiting to devour you like a five dollar Chinese buffet. The cliffhanger in the aptly titled episode “Pretty Much Dead Already” was by far the best I’ve seen yet, and we pick up right where that left off. Only, I’m not sure what to expect for the rest of the season since so far the group is coping with Sophia’s (Madison Lintz) death, wondering whether to move on or stay at the farm and doing the usual daily survival stuff. I can’t even begin to imagine where the writers are thinking to take us next (the last few minutes of “Nebraska” are kind of cryptic). Rick (Andrew Lincoln) has put himself in a position of redemption and I’m not sure how he’ll be able to do it.

Observations and thoughts:

I find it interesting how one minute someone can cry over a dead loved one (who’s a zombie) and then the next minute they’re screaming to get away from them, afraid of being bit. What stands out to you in this situation? Can you love a monster but fear it because of what it can do to you? “That’s not my little girl. That’s some… thing.” I wonder why no one else thinks like Carol (Melissa McBride) because that’s exactly my point—once you’re bitten, you’re dead. The human being that once was is no more. So, could you let go or would you still hold on thinking some magical cure is just on the horizon? I’m trying to understand Hershel’s (Scott Wilson) logic for keeping a barn full of Walkers where they could have easily gotten loose and feasted on him and the rest of the survivors.

“People counted on me and I had them chasing a ghost in a forest.” How was Rick to know Sophia had been bitten and turned? Yeah, some guessed she was dead, but no one knew for sure.

What exactly does Dale bring to the table but good advice?

Shane (Jon Bernthal) is a loose cannon. He’s full of anger and I’m not exactly sure why he’s so mad at the world. I understand the predicament they’re in isn’t ideal, but really, what can you do when the world goes to shit? Survival is key and he’s top dog at getting by. Only, he’ll end up alone at the rate he’s going. “I knew guys like him, and sooner or later… he’s gonna kill somebody else.” I have a feeling Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) might be right. I’d watch my back if I were on that farm. No telling when Shane might snap.

Wilson is phenomenal this episode. He portrays a heartbroken, downtrodden man with nothing left to live for to a tee. I feel his pain, hear every word he says and believe it to be how he truly feels. So what can you say to him to get him to regain his hope in miracles? As far as I can tell, things are hopeless in this zombie riddled world.

Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) is an idiot. What happens to her is predictable and problematic. She’s pregnant for crying out loud! Why would she put herself in harm’s way for someone she doesn’t truly know? I know she’s thinking of Rick first and foremost, but I can’t see why she goes out alone. I don’t want to say she’s being selfish (she truly isn’t) but is there any reason she should doubt Rick won’t return from collecting Hershel?

I think Shane will have to eat his words about Rick. He's not soft at all.

How exciting for me to see a familiar face, Michael Raymond James, from another one of my favorite shows (True Blood) and to know his character Dave, is from my hometown (Philly)! Very exciting indeed. Although, I know this new face won’t bring anything but trouble especially since I only want to call him Rene and ask what happened to his accent (I know I’m not the only True Blood fan watching). “There is no way out of this mess.” Not good news to anyone, but it seems to be the truth of the matter. Too bad James isn’t a series regular. I’m pretty sure he’d add more conflict to the story and we’d really get to see what our survivors are made of.

“Nebraska” is a well done return to season two of The Walking Dead. I feel like we’re finally moving forward with the story and things will be different from here on out. While there were a few predictable moments, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by those that were unexpected too. That being said, my final words this week—Rick is not the same man we came to know in season one.
