We don’t usually get to see Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) wolf out much so I’m happy he’s the focus of “Faetal Justice.” He’s framed for a Ba’al’s (Karl Campbell) death and, well, I’m pretty sure this is not a show where the writers kill off their main characters, like Lost or The Wire (I’m still not over the deaths of Stringer Bell and Omar). Holden-Ried does a fine snarl and growl, and I rather enjoy seeing him wolf out. I bet he enjoys it, too.

Trick (Rick Howland) closes the Dal Riata to provide sanctuary for Dyson

After finding himself bloodied and lying next to a dead Ba’al, Dyson goes to the Dal Riata to invoke sanctuary. Why is it that Trick (Rick Howland) knows what this means, but neither Ash (Cle Bennett) nor The Morrigan (Emmanuelle Vaugier) has any concept of the word? “Santuary” is repeated throughout, but both the Light and Dark Fae are too quick to want to turn in Dyson without conducting a thorough investigation first. All clues point to him as the killer but don’t Ash and The Morrigan have any faith in him? Dyson may be a wolf shifter but he does have a conscience. Or does he? Through Det. Hale (K.C. Collins), Bo (Anna Silk) learns Dyson has killed many people for over 200 years; he’s only been a cop for 50. Still, it’s pretty obvious Dyson has been framed. Plenty of the Dark Fae would love to see his ass kicked, or dead. He’s got plenty of enemies.

The Morrigan (Emmanuelle Vaugier) demands Dyson turn himself in

You know, I never get tired of the homey scenes with Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) and Bo. Their first attempt at cooking a dish together is pretty amusing; of course, it turns out awful! They don’t belong in the kitchen, but it’s nice to witness these scenes because there are too few. It’s the only time they can get down with the girl talk, and they never fail to make Dyson the focus of their conversations. They have such an easy rapport with each other, and mutual respect.

If there’s one recurring character I don’t like, it’s Vex (Paul Amos). He’s grating and annoying. Sure, Lost Girl needs another villain like it needs more black, but I see no purpose in having him around. He’s Dark Fae, owns a nightclub, and gleefully abuses his power to force people to do things against their will, as he does when he gets Bo to nearly choke herself to death. It’s too easy a power to use and abuse, and Vex is too one-dimensional to be of any interest to me. In a prior episode, Bo put him in his place so now he seeks vengeance against her. On the other hand, Lauren (Zoie Palmer) is underutilized, present only to run the forensics investigation, which is a waste of Palmer’s prime acting ability. Much more interesting to me is the tension between her and Bo, not Vex.

I admit to some perplexity regarding Trick’s seeming acceptance of Bo and Dyson’s appearance as a romantic couple, holding hands and being fairly close. Bo openly asking questions of Trick about Dyson only elicits a comment about how “curiosity killed the cat”; yet he doesn’t seem worried about them. In the past, he warned Dyson about getting emotionally involved with Bo. When did Trick start accepting this situation, or is he silently standing by because he thinks he can’t do anything about it?

Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) and Bo (Anna Silk) connect after solving the Ba'al murder

When the real killer is revealed to be Silas (Jeffrey Douglas), the bartender of Vex’s club, I don’t much care. Of more interest is seeing peace between the Light and Dark Fae, and the deepening affection and respect between Dyson and Bo. I predict plenty of problems ahead for this couple. What relationship test will they fail? The mystery only delights me.
