Two very interesting cases this week, both with sexual undertones. At this point in the season, do I expect anything different? No. Am I happy? Yes. I love me some Franklin & Bash!

Review: Franklin & Bash, S1, E9 - "Bachelor Party" 1

Peter plays the guitar again in "Press."

Jared’s (Breckin Meyer) case involves revisiting his high school to defend teacher, Emily Clare (guest star Alexandra Breckenridge), for sleeping with Chris Biggs (guest star Brian Guess), her 18-year-old student. It’s not very professional, as Peter points out, but Jared totally flirts with Emily during their prep meeting. I’d bet anything this is going somewhere once the case is over. And what a slimeball Biggs turns out to be! Not only does he post pictures of himself and Emily on Facebook, but he refuses to confess he misled Emily by telling her he was 21 and a student at Pepperdine University. The kid is too worried about his reputation. Yuck! I hate guys like that. Doesn’t he realize this woman’s career is at stake?

Jared tries to talk some sense into the head master, who is the one leading the case against Emily. But Jared also has to deal with his feelings for this guy who apparently is still angry over the antics Jared pulled in high school, which led to him being banned from the school for life. I was quite surprised when the head master tells Jared another student has come forward claiming he also had an affair with Emily– during the school year and on school grounds. “As usual, someone didn’t do his homework,” the head master taunts. Seriously? After all this time and you’re still acting like an asshole? Jared defends Emily at the school board hearing and is absolutely brilliant, producing a surprise witness, Teresa (Laura Gonzelez), who testifies against Biggs, heIping Jared win the case in a most unusual way. He completely fooled everyone on the school board by making them think something totally opposite of what really happened. It did my heart good to see Jared take that pompous head master down a notch or two, especially when Jared taunts back, “Someone did their homework.” Oh, and by the way, he does hook up with Emily once the case is finished.

Peter, Nathan and Jared, sharing Janie stories

As a promo for this episode says, “Janie and Peter break up. Janie gets engaged to Nathan. Nathan seeks Peter’s help when he’s arrested.” Talk about your weird, uncomfortable situation. Let me explain. Nathan (guest star James Van der Beek) has been arrested on a solicitation charge at his bachelor party that he didn’t want in the first place. I feel sorry for Peter that Nathan feels comfortable enough to hire him. All season, I’ve been of the mind that somehow Janie (Claire Coffee) and Peter would reunite. Well, that notion is crushed to smithereens, as are Peter’s hopes, when Nathan tells him Janie said it was completely over between her and Peter. I’m not sure I believe that though.

Not only has Nathan been charged with soliciting a prostitute at his bachelor party (“You mean busted with a hooker,” Peter explains), he’s most likely facing a felony charge due to a subsequent fire. Of course Nathan insists he didn’t sleep with the prostitute, but he doesn’t want Janie to know what happened so he asks Peter to plead it out. Easy, huh? Not so easy because Janie already knows. I guess Nathan doesn’t know it’s not a good idea to start a marriage with a lie. Looks like Peter will be representing Nathan in court after all, because Janie insists Nathan change his plea. She can’t afford to be marrying a sex offender since she works in the District Attorney’s office. It’s ok to marry a convicted felon though, right? What in the world is this girl thinking?

Peter, Jared, Carmen, Pindar and Nathan in the hot tub just as Janie comes storming in

No episode would be complete without a party at the Man Cave. Nathan joins in for a business meeting of sorts, but things get a little weird (and funny) when Peter, Nathan and Jared start discussing Janie’s sexual proclivities.

Nathan: “Janie does have her little idiosyncrasies.”

Jared: “Yeah, who would’ve thought she’d smoke after sex?”

Peter: “Mmm, uh huh.”

Jared to Nathan: “He told me! Oh come on, it’s the cave! No topic’s off limits.”

Due to some brilliant deductions courtesy of Jared, Janie’s testimony about her sex life with Nathan, and Peter’s genius in the courtroom, he successfully gets Nathan off. The question now is whether Janie will stay with Nathan (since they’ve postponed the wedding), or whether she’ll finally see that Peter really is a good guy and deserves another chance. I’m hoping for the latter. Since the season finale is next week, hopefully we’ll get the answer we’re eager to hear.

The funniest part of “Bachelor Party” happens when Peter goes off to change clothes for another meeting with Nathan, and Jared mocks the “friendship” that has developed between the two in a very strange little voice, playing both Peter and Nathan.

I love you Nathan. I love you Peter. No, I love you. Look at your giant head. Look at your giant head. Let’s put them together. Splush! What? I’m alone!”

Tune in to the season finale of Franklin & Bash next Wednesday, 9:00 pm ET/PT only on TNT.

Awesome episode. Excellent performance by mark Paul, Claire Coffee, James.
I would like to see more peter and Janie scenes in season 2. This week’s episode really wanted me to care about season 2.

    FnB rocks!

    1. Bridget, I agree with your assessment! I am really hoping for more of a relationship between Janie and Peter next season. I’m missing the show already and it’s only been a few weeks since the season finale!
