There are few shows I declare a hit just from watching a screener of the pilot episode (Homeland comes to mind), but The New Normal is right up there. Ryan Murphy has hit comedy gold with this series, a show based on his life and his attempts to adopt a baby with fiancé David Miller.

The Missing Locket. Review: Copper – “In the Hands of an Angry God”
Copper is an intoxicating mix of corruption, greed, racism, and murder. Smack dab in the center of this dizzying Civil War-era world is Kevin Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones), a former boxer-turned-cop working for the Sixth Precinct in Five Points—a slummy immigrant area of 1860s New York predominantly populated by Irish and blacks.

HBO Rolls Out a New Film from The Rolling Stones
Many years ago, I remember sitting with my friends in the pouring rain at a Rolling Stones concert in Philadelphia. No way was I leaving; I paid my money and I was staying, come hell or high water. I idolized the Stones back then, and still enjoy listening to their music today. Now, on its 50th anniversary, the iconic rock band is being chronicled in a new movie, Crossfire Hurricane, debuting on HBO on November 15.

Assassinating Apples in Aruba. Review: White Collar – “Compromising Positions”
Cleverly, “Compromising Positions” sets up the anticipation of Neal (Matt Bomer) finally finding the elusive Sam (Treat Williams) and discovering more truth about his past so well that when the actual case centering on the conviction of a land developer running an environmental scam begins, it’s almost a surprise. The fact that Neal actually makes tenuous contact with Sam is told with almost B-side importance. But that’s the shrewd thing about the way White Collar is written: every detail means something.

Advance Movie Review: Lawless – Sometimes the simplest way of life gets complicated
Starring Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska, and Jason Clarke – Lawless transports you to a place and time steeped heavily in tradition and old-fashioned southern values, sometimes unyielding and uncompromising just like the Bondurant brothers. If you’re looking for a good old-fashioned moonshine, shoot’em-up movie, Lawless is a step above that.

All’s Well that Ends Well Isn’t Necessarily the Case. Review: Season Finale of Episodes – “Episode 209”
The network’s “Man of the Year” awards ceremony, where Merc (John Pankow) is to receive the Vivaldi Award, starts off well enough, but things don’t go exactly as planned. “Episode 209” forces the characters (and us) to take a deep, introspective look at their lives, and is a fun, entertaining way of wrapping up the second season of this brilliant comedy.

Pass The Dutchie… Review: Suits, S2 Mid-Season Finale “High Noon”
“High Noon” is exciting, intriguing, infuriating, eye-popping, and throws in a little tear-jerker moment for good measure. I was absolutely glued to my seat and couldn’t take my eyes off the screen, this episode is so engaging. From Jessica (Gina Torres) getting the short end of the stick after all the votes are tallied, to Harvey and Donna (Sarah Rafferty) having to move to the 46th floor (gasp), things take a strange turn for everyone at Pearson Hardmon.

Interview: Paulo Costanzo Talks About Directing His First Episode of Royal Pains
I was so lucky to participate yesterday in a teleconference with Paulo Costanzo, one of the stars of Royal Pains, who recently directed his first episode. That episode, “Dancing with the Devil,” airs Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 9/8c, only on USA Network. I can’t begin to tell you how much fun it was talking to Paulo—he’s such a personable guy, so forthcoming, with a terrific sense of humor, as I’m sure you’d all expect.
