FX Officially Orders 13 Episodes of its new Chilling Drama Series, The Strain 3

Throughout my life, I have been a big fan of medical mysteries such as Contagion and Coma, to name just a few. In the past few years, I discovered I enjoyed movies and TV shows dealing with vampires. So when I read FX’s press release below, I became excited…really excited.

Can’t Keep A Dead Witch Down.Retrospective: Witches of East End “-Unburied”

Can't Keep A Dead Witch Down.Retrospective: Witches of East End "-Unburied" 6

If Witches of East End could provide any particular life lesson, it would be this: do not mess with witches. “Unburied,” written by Josh Reims, does a little more than air out everyone’s dirty laundry. It offers the return of some familiar faces, and a few some big defining moments.

Death’s Tale of Woe. Review: Sleepy Hollow – “Necromancer”

Death’s Tale of Woe. Review: Sleepy Hollow – “Necromancer” 7

“This is a secret war; we must be cautious who we invite into it.” — Ichabod Crane
“Necromancer” is an absolutely amazing episode filled with drama and mystery, and wrought with intensity, especially during the interrogation scenes between Ichabod (Tom Mison) and the ruthless Headless Horseman (Jeremy Owens). There is a reason Sleepy Hollow has already been renewed so early on for a second season, and if you haven’t started watching, “Necromancer” is the perfect episode to start with.

The Prodigal Returns. Review: The Walking Dead – “Live Bait”

The Prodigal Returns. Review: The Walking Dead - “Live Bait” 8

I love it when The Walking Dead has a single focused episode. “Live Bait” dissects the man behind the eye patch to show the two sides of a villain who deep down isn’t all evil.

Some Wishes Come True-ish. Review: Haven — “The Trouble with the Troubles”

Some Wishes Come True-ish. Review: Haven — “The Trouble with the Troubles” 9

“The Trouble with the Troubles” gives us so many shocking revelations, I literally clasped my hand to my mouth when the biggest reveal happened. I’m not even sure I am typing of my own volition because I’m in a state of disbelief. Not denial, just a state of ‘What the heck just happened!’ Haven continues to be fresh, inventive, and downright surprising.

The Unusual Suspects. Retrospective: Grimm – “One Night Stand”

The Unusual Suspects. Retrospective: Grimm – “One Night Stand” 10

“One Night Stand” will leave you feeling a bit parched and waterlogged all at the same time. “One Night Stand” is interesting in that it provides not only a new species of Wesen but also highlights Nick’s (David Giuntoli) newly enhanced Grimm powers. I feel, however, like it is a filler episode with a lackluster fight scene on the docks. I’m also getting an uneasy feeling about Nick’s Grimm prowess being heightened because something just isn’t right about it.

All Shall Be Revealed… Review: Dracula – “From Darkness to Light”

All Shall Be Revealed... Review: Dracula – “From Darkness to Light” 11

I haven’t seen an episode of Dracula I didn’t like. And I’ll be honest, I don’t think I ever will.

Friends and Family Plan. Review: White Collar – “Master Plan”

Friends and Family Plan. Review: White Collar - “Master Plan” 12

Patrick Wolcott (Zachary Booth), a young runaway, returns after 15 years to spend time with his dying father William (Richard Thomas). But Elizabeth Burke (Tiffani Thiessen) isn’t convinced the young man is the same little boy she used to tutor. Neal (Matt Bomer) is sent in as the new butler to try to figure out if Patrick is who he says he is or someone after the massive trust fund Patrick is set to inherit.

Doppelgangers No More… Review: The Vampire Diaries – “Death and the Maiden”

Doppelgangers No More… Review: The Vampire Diaries – “Death and the Maiden” 13

I was expecting to love “Death and the Maiden” more than I did. The overwhelming emotion wrought from the characters should have been enough to engage me, but I found my attention waning at times.

Smart. Review: The Tomorrow People – “Sorry For Your Loss” 14

I enjoyed “Sorry For Your Loss” and glimpsing Russell’s past. I’m not sure if I like him more or less now though.

“Bloodletting” is yet another solid episode and proves The Originals is making its way in the vampire drama TV slot.

Seeing Isn’t Always Believing. Review: Sleepy Hollow – “The Midnight Ride”

Seeing Isn’t Always Believing. Review: Sleepy Hollow – “The Midnight Ride” 19

Although there is a saying, “Seeing is believing,” sometimes, you simply can’t believe what you’ve just witnessed with your own two eyes. Then again, many have blind faith in a God they’ve never seen. There are also those who believe in something many say doesn’t exist…like ghosts or the paranormal. I think Sleepy Hollow gives us many examples of all the above in “The Midnight Ride.”

Past Lives and Blood Magic. Retrospective: Witches of East End – “Potentia Noctis”

Past Lives and Blood Magic. Retrospective: Witches of East End - "Potentia Noctis" 20

Witches of East End outdoes itself again with “Potentia Noctis,” an episode so chock full of sex, intrigue, and magic, it leaves some lives fair game for ultimate disaster. “Potentia Noctis” is not only a game changer, putting all the pieces of the puzzle together about the elusive shape-shifter, but it sheds light on the cause for Joanna (Julia Ormond) and Wendy’s (Mädchen Amick) 100-year estrangement.

Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend. Recap: Castle – “A Murder is Forever”

Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend. Recap: Castle – “A Murder is Forever” 21

“And if you want to be invited into my territory again, you might want to re-think that.” – Kate Beckett. To be honest, I wasn’t completely thrilled with “A Murder is Forever,” but it was certainly a big step up from last week’s “Like Father, Like Daughter.” I won’t even light that fire again. Although “A Murder is Forever” has a lot of things going for it, including a few good Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) scenes, one huge action-packed interlude, and an overall twisty murder investigation, however there are a few things that fell flat for me.

When It Rains… Review: The Walking Dead - “Internment” 25

I must decree “Internment” is an exciting, tense, and frightening episode—maybe even one of the top five best episodes. And not even because of the walkers.
