Sons of Anarchy – “Toil and Till” Retrospective. Unraveling the Things that Kill us.

Sons of Anarchy – “Toil and Till” Retrospective. Unraveling the Things that Kill us. 4

I don’t think the crow is flying straight and in a perfect line these days. Jax’s determination to avenge the murder of his wife Dr. Tara Knowles (Maggie Siff) remains as resolute as ever, but the course he is following with the MC’s help is being corrupted by ever growing lies. Will a recent kill satisfy Jax’s thirst for vengeance or are we witnessing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the payback he has planned?

Witches of East End – “Smells Like King Spirit” Recap. Dark Side of Destiny.

Witches of East End – “Smells Like King Spirit” Recap. Dark Side of Destiny. 6

Witches of East End has a habit of balancing the darker elements of its story lines regarding the cursed Beauchamp family with some lighthearted moments. Yeah, not so much in “Smells Like King Spirit,” where the clear and present danger of Frederick (Christian Cooke) and Tarkoff’s (James Marsters) mission takes a sinister turn.

The Lottery –“Truth Be Told” Top Three Moments. It Shall Set You Free. 7

I find myself losing my fervor for The Lottery. We are thrown a few bones here and there, but it’s not enough to keep my attention.

Forever – “Pilot” Advance Review. Sherlock Holmes Meets Indiana Jones with Bond Style.

Forever – “Pilot” Advance Review. Sherlock Holmes Meets Indiana Jones with Bond Style. 8

Why does everything sound better with a deep, lush British accent? Admittedly, I was drawn to the premise of Forever because I’ve got a twisted fascination with immortality, the supernatural, and a good mystery. But after learning Ioan Gruffudd (pronounced: Yo-An Griffith) would play the lead character, Dr. Henry Morgan, I was in! Forever is a fun, new kind of drama with flare. It’s Sherlock Holmes meets Indiana Jones with a pinch of James Bond mixed in. There is mystery, intrigue, murders, antiques, and of course, a bit of danger.

With these three funny people, it’s a sure bet this new show is going to be a hit, to say nothing of how hilarious it is.

Gotham – “Pilot” Spoiler-Free Advance Review. A Fish, a Cat and a Penguin.

Gotham - “Pilot” Spoiler-Free Advance Review. A Fish, a Cat and a Penguin. 11

When Fox first announced Gotham would be on its 2014 fall schedule, I had my doubts if the show could work without a main hero. Sure, Smallville didn’t have Superman and survived for 10 seasons but the show still had Clark Kent (Tom Welling) and he wielded most of Superman’s powers. So, can there be a Gotham without Batman? Based on the pilot, the answer appears to be yes.

The Strain – “Loved Ones” Retrospective. The Chosen One.

The Strain – “Loved Ones” Retrospective. The Chosen One. 12

The saying, ‘we hurt the ones we love the most,’ rings loud and clear in “Loved Ones.” Why do the newborn strigoi go after their family first? Is it our innate need to be close to those who love us when we aren’t feeling our best? While this hasn’t been fully explained, I think we all seek out the familiar when we are sick, hurt, or scared. Unfortunately, the people we care for the most are the ones that also suffer the most.

Ray Donovan – “Volchek” Top Five Moments. Lives Begin to Unravel.

Ray Donovan – “Volchek” Top Five Moments. Lives Begin to Unravel. 13

“Volchek” is a great episode with the usual stellar storytelling and acting we’ve come to love and expect from Ray Donovan. It also does a terrific job of furthering everyone’s story lines.

Outlander –“The Garrison Commander” Review. You Can Hear a Pin Drop. 14

Probably one of the more disturbing episodes but “The Garrison Commander” pushes Outlander into another league. This is television worth watching. Well, when you aren’t eating a burger.

Haven — “See No Evil” Review. Monkey See. Monkey Shoot. Monkey Taser?

Haven — “See No Evil” Review. Monkey See. Monkey Shoot. Monkey Taser? 15

Haven is back but this is a much darker Haven than we last saw in the season four finale “The Lighthouse.” “See No Evil” is a shocking and enthralling season premiere. Haven ups the ante for this season. Of note, there are several clues from last season that play a major role in what goes down in the season five premiere “See No Evil.” And we will definitely see plenty of dastardly deeds happening courtesy of Mara (Emily Rose).

Conf Call: HAVEN Season 5 – Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant Talk About Love Suckers, Pancakes, and Lots of Steam

Conf Call: HAVEN Season 5 - Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant Talk About Love Suckers, Pancakes, and Lots of Steam 16

This was the most fun I’ve had on a call in a long time. Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant have such great banter during this call especially fielding things like being called “a love sucker” and the hilarious exchange regarding Nathan and Audrey making “pancakes” last season. Apparently there will be more “pancakes” maybe some “waffles” and a whole lot of “steam” happening this season.

Red Band Society Series Premiere – “Pilot” Spoiler-Free Advance Review. A Coming of Age Dramedy.

Red Band Society Series Premiere – “Pilot” Spoiler-Free Advance Review. A Coming of Age Dramedy. 19

Red Band Society takes its name from the red hospital bracelets the kids wear. The first half of the season premiere is very lighthearted and funny despite the seriousness of the show’s premise. There is plenty of drama as well and combined, it makes for a very entertaining, heartfelt, coming-of-age tale. I’m sure some people won’t want to watch a show with such a maudlin topic but they’ll be missing out on a wonderful show that takes you on a journey with each character as they grow and learn about themselves. Red Band Society is a unique show with the potential to become a terrific new series for Fox. By the end of “Pilot,” you find yourself wanting to know what makes the characters tick.

Showtime Announces Nurse Jackie’s Seventh Season is Her Last

Showtime Announces Nurse Jackie's Seventh Season is Her Last 20

I’ve only recently started enjoying Nurse Jackie thanks to binge-watching on Netflix. With the recent announcement that Tony Shalhoub would be joining the cast as Dr. Bernard Prince, a new ER doctor at All Saints my interest grew even more. Unfortunately, Showtime has announced that the upcoming seventh season will be the last.

Sons of Anarchy – “Black Widower” Retrospective. False Pardons: Has there been Enough Deaths?

Sons of Anarchy – “Black Widower” Retrospective. False Pardons: Has there been Enough Deaths? 21

Following the violent sequence of events during Sons of Anarchy’s season six finale, “A Mother’s Work,” I wondered how emotionally charged the final season premiere would be. The last time we saw Jax (Charlie Hunnam), he was wailing after finding his beloved wife Tara (Maggie Siff) gruesomely murdered. Will Jax be able to keep his emotions in check or will his desire for revenge completely consume him, as well as the MC?
