CASTLE - "Time Will Tell" - A grisly murder investigation leads Castle and Beckett to a suspect (Joshua Gomez, "Chuck," guest stars as Simon Doyle) who claims he's traveled back in time to stop terrible events from unfolding, events that will change the course of human history. Is he simply a deluded killer, or is it possible that he's telling the truth, on "Castle," MONDAY, OCTOBER 21 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Randy Holmes) STANA KATIC, NATHAN FILLION, JOSHUA GOMEZ

Castle and Beckett interrogate Simon Doyle.

Despite the title of this episode, “Time Will Tell,” being downright stolen from Alias season one, I wholeheartedly enjoyed this playful episode of Castle! Not only does it feature a pretty geek-tastic storyline, it also blatantly foreshadows plenty of Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) future life accomplishments and guest star Joshua Gomez (Chuck) plays a lovable, yet certifiable “time-traveler” named Simon Doyle. ”Time Will Tell” reminded me of some previous plucky Castle classics circa season one and season two. Oh, those were the days when I would have given a five-star rating to every single episode! Although, to this day, I do pretend “Famous Last Words” never existed.

After Shauna Taylor is found gagged, electrocuted, tortured, and ultimately murdered in her apartment, Castle and Beckett find their main suspect claiming he has been sent from the future to stop catastrophic events from unfolding, events that will save billions of lives!

Simon Doyle: “I’m from the future.”

Richard Castle: “This just became my favorite case!”

Simon Doyle believes Shauna’s death is a chain reaction, of sorts, leading to the bloody Energy War of 2031. According to Doyle, being a Temporal Anthropologist – or basically an observer with lots of facial hair (Fringe reference) – in 2035 is not easy and not a profession you want to take lightly.

Javier Esposito lookin’ mighty fine!

Detectives Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Esposito (Jon Huertas) retrace the victim’s last steps to a bar right around the corner of her apartment. There they learn Shauna met with a prostitute named Veronica (Yvonne Zima) hired to seduce Shauna and steal her apartment keys for an unknown client. By the time the team figures out who the client is and what/who he is after, they are too late. Garrett Ward (Jess Allen), the definitive killer, turns out to be quite the elusive fellow who kills Shauna’s stepbrother (Tim Russ) and flee from both the on duty uniforms and our dynamic duo.

Speaking of fleeing. It seems our eccentric time-traveler also has a few tricks up his sleeve, mysteriously disappearing from lock-up. Doyle’s escape does come in handy though when he rescues Castle from an angry and probably roid-raged Ward. Meanwhile, Beckett is still skeptical of Doyle’s proclaimed future expertise, even though he reveals several important and squee worthy details! I just hope they come true!

Doyle: “Real charmer that one. I can’t believe you married her!”

Castle: “How’d you know I marry her?”

Doyle: “One of your book jackets, you know. Richard Castle lives in New York with his wife Senator Beckett and their three children.”

Castle: “Senator?”

Beckett: “THREE KIDS?”

It seems Ward is on a grand mission to exact revenge on a man named Paul Deschile (John R. Collen), a university student studying theoretical physics (Doyle believes Deschile is a major leader during the Energy Wars of 2031). Shauna and her stepbrother were merely two detours in Ward’s way in finding Deschile’s location.

Simon Doyle tries to explain his role in the present and future.

Now, It’s time for me to leave the actual ending up to your imagination. I personally adored Simon asking if Castle and Beckett would like to know their future children’s names. But of course they disagree on the answer, so we don’t get to know! Typical Caskett. Simon Doyle’s exit really surprised me. Castle and I are on the same page, desperately trying to find the missing pieces to the puzzle! What do you think: is Doyle a real time-traveler? Would the death of Paul Deschile mean the end of billions of innocent lives? Will Castle really drive Beckett crazy for the rest of her life? Go ahead and watch “Time Will Tell” to see what the future holds! And don’t forget to be awesome and leave a comment below. I want to hear your thoughts!

Hits:

  • Esposito watches Dr. Who! I could really care less, but I know how cool it is when fandoms collide!
  • Kate Beckett: “Think about all the great times that you have to look forward to in her [Alexis] future and in ours.” All together now: Awwwwwwww!
  • All this foreshadowing better freaking come true! I could deal without Beckett becoming a Senator though.
  • Castle writes “serious literature” in the future, no more “stupid mystery books.” You’ll find me waiting in line at the closest book store, the day of release, with my pre-order receipt in hand!

Misses:

  • When will this 3.14 – Pi (Myko Olivier) – business come to a screeching conclusion?! Alexis (Molly Quinn) is making horrific decisions this season and I don’t think it’s due to the engagement because Alexis likes Beckett. Can anyone say Wild Child phase? I’m glad I never went though one of these! My parents would have definitely locked me in my room.
  • I’m sorry, but haven’t we figured out the exact time of death by a victim’s broken watch about fifty times before?! Example: Season 2 episode 6, “Vampire Weekend.” And that’s just off the top of my head! I’m thinking we (yes, I’m including myself) should go back to using actual science…
  • Take a look at minute 26:52, no commercials. I’m 147% certain those are stand-ins. I mean, it’s not even remotely close to looking like Beckett. Her hair color isn’t even the same! So. Blatantly. Obvious.

  1. So I was a bit surprised at the outcome but still not 100% sold on the ‘time traveler’ theory, however, the coffee spilling on the letter was pretty damn convincing. I liked the episode a lot and I agree, not sure if I want Beckett to be a Senator…and 3 kids…WOW! Oh and please tell me this Pi situation isn’t going to last all season? I’m ready to choke Alexis for doing what she’s doing. Leaving the nest to shack up with Pi…UGH!
