Has Matt Become A Has-Been? Review: Episodes - "Episode 4" 2

The ludicrousness of Carole (Kathleen Rose Perkins) comforting Merc (John Pankow) while he sits on the toilet stressing over the latest ratings for his network sets the tone of this brilliantly written episode of Episodes, especially when the scene ends with the sound of a single, solitary dump. Way to start the funny from the get go! But what’s a network producer to do when the show he was counting on for big ratings is a failure?

Will Beverly Be Able to Save Her Marriage? Review: Episodes - "Episode 1" 10

Last season, Episodes was an entertaining romp, and if what I’ve seen of season two is any indication, we’re in for even more fun! Many shows have revolved around what goes on behind the scenes of a TV show but in my opinion, Episodes does it best. It’s an intelligent mockup of sitcoms—highly entertaining with smart writing and excellent comedic timing by the show’s four major stars: Matt LeBlanc, Tamsin Greig, Stephen Mangan and John Pankow.

How Do You Make People Realize They Need Help? Review: Necessary Roughness - "Slumpbuster" 12

TK (Mehcad Brooks) is practicing as hard and as much as he can but his leg still hurts. And, he won’t discuss the shooting with Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne), which she thinks is the root of his problems. Matt (Marc Blucas) thinks he has the answer to TK’s dilemma by virtue of a professional masseuse named Simone (Sharon Gee), while Dani deals with baseball’s MVP Edmond Gonzo’s (Adam Rodriguez) problem with his “slumpbuster,” Denise (Lindsay Hollister). In the meantime, Marshall Pittman (Evan Handler) and estranged wife Gabrielle “Gabby” (Liz Vassey) argue over team ownership. With all involved, there’s a central theme—needing help but not knowing it.

TK (Mehcad Brooks) is now living with his long-time friend, Zetti (Mekia Cox); Ray Jay (Patrick Johnson) has suddenly become vegan; and Marshall Pittman (Evan Handler) is making his voice heard as the new GM of the Hawks. How easily things can change when one isn’t looking.

TV News: And the Winner Is: Second Annual Critics' Choice Television Awards 14

I am extremely excited that Homeland walked away with the Best Drama Series award, as well as the award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for Claire Danes too. That’s because not only am I a hardcore fan, but I reviewed the show weekly during its freshman season and I intend to continue reviewing Homeland when it returns on September 30 at 10/9c ET/PT on Showtime. I’m also ecstatic that Tom Bergeron and Cat Deely tied for Best Reality Show Host for ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, respectively. But this isn’t just about my favorites; it’s about all the award-winning series and people associated with them. And, as far as networks go, NBC was clearly the winner with five shows winning awards.

Advance Review: Anger Management, S1 E1/E2 - "Charlie Goes Back to Therapy" and "Charlie and the Slumpbuster" 15

If Anger Management can keep up the level of hilarity in future episodes, FX will definitely have another hit on its hands. All I can tell you is you need to watch this show because if you don’t, you’ll be missing out on one of the funniest sitcoms in recent history! The acting and comedic timing are spot on, the dialogue is witty, clever, and sharp, and the chemistry among the actors is perfection.

A Birth, A Death and A Firing. Review: Season Finale of Nurse Jackie - "Handle Your Scandal" 16

As season finales go, “Handle Your Scandal” knocks it out of the park! Talk about a cliffhanger! Major changes take place—some good, some not so good. Dr. Cruz (Bobby Cannavale) fires Jackie (Edie Falco)—yes, you heard me right!—Jackie takes Grace (Ruby Jerins) out of Catholic school; and Dr. O’Hara (Eve Best) goes into labor. It’s just another day at All Saints, right? NOT!

Dr. Dani Santini (Callie Thorne) has her hands full in “To Swerve and Protect.” Not only must she help TK (Mehcad Brooks) conquer his fears, her son Ray Jay (Patrick Johnson) wants to “do it here” with his tutor/girlfriend Olivia (Megann Fahy). Plus, Dani has a new patient, Grace Denise Charleston (Alicia Ziegler), known as DisGrace Kelly on the roller derby circuit, who collapsed on the rink after smelling a suspicious odor.

God Returns and Chaos is Everywhere. Review: Nurse Jackie - "Are Those Feathers?" 19

With Eddie (Paul Schulze) and Gloria (Anna Deavere Smith) being fired last week, the nurses at All Saints are wearing commemorative arm bands and have set up a collection jar on their behalf. I’m not sure whether Dr. Cruz (Bobby Cannavale) is stressed or if he’s just plain spiteful when he demands they get rid of the jar and “lose the arm bands. No one died.” I’d like to say his Hitler-esque behavior is stress-induced, but I honestly think the man is callous and cruel. Looks like everyone needs to stay on their best behavior if they want to keep their jobs.

It’s Off Season for the NY Hawks. Review: Necessary Roughness – “Shrink or Swim” 20

When last we saw Terrence “TK” King ((Mehcad Brooks), he was being rushed to the hospital after being shot by a crazed fan. As “Shrink or Swim” opens, he’s fighting for his life in the operating room. Of course he makes it but it’s what he says as he’s wheeled out of surgery that sets the tone for this second season premiere, telling me the wry sarcasm and witty dialogue of the first season of Necessary Roughness is back. “I ain’t dead yet, bitches.”

The Boys are Back and Up to Their Usual Hijinks. Review: Franklin & Bash, S2 E1 - "Strange Brew" 22

As “Strange Brew” opens, our fearless heroes, the fun-loving legal duo of Jared Franklin (Breckin Meyer) and Peter Bash (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), are in court using some very unusual, seemingly life-threatening tactics to win a case. Cut to the offices of Infeld Daniels where Stanton Infeld (Malcolm McDowell) announces to the partners that the firm’s experiment with Franklin & Bash (F&B) is over. This can’t possibly be true, can it? Of course not! What Stanton means is he wants to ask Jared and Peter to become full equity partners. While F&B’s initial response is comedic, they soon learn two-thirds of the partnership has to vote them in, and that might be a problem.
