So, Bo (Anna Silk) manages to extract the cursed nail that brings Nadia (Athena Karkanis) out of her coma. Her thanks? Feeling lonely on her birthday, even though she’s surrounded by friends. Kudos to Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) for pulling off Bo’s surprise birthday party without a hitch (even though she desecrates the birthday cake). She should be a party planner.

Bo celebrates her birthday surrounded by friends

I don’t know what to make of The Ash (Vincent Walsh). While he seems to genuinely want to help Lauren (Zoie Palmer), I can’t help but wonder about his motives. It’s natural she’d pledge her undying loyalty to him after Nadia’s return, but what else does he want from her? His uncharacteristic kindness toward Bo is suspicious, too. He tells her the former Ash placed the curse on Nadia, but why? The Dark Fae shaman Tshombe (Philip Akin) tells her, “The Light do not mind compromise when they feel the ends justifies the means.” This is telling, and I think more background on the former Ash will become clear later this season.

I love how Bo automatically looks to Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) now to be her sidekick in practically every situation. Now that they’re friends, they can rely on each other in pretty much every way. He doesn’t even so much as bat an eyelash when he learns confronting The Preta (Denis Akiyama) could bring almost certain death to them both. Who wouldn’t want such a steadfast partner? At times, Dyson’s loyalty seems to have no bounds. Although Ciara (Lina Roessler) wants to settle down, he doesn’t but gives in when he sees how enthusiastic she is about having just bought a home for both of them. Seeing his commitment to her—even though his feelings are not as strong as hers—makes me adore him all the more even though, ultimately, one of them will suffer. Not only is he steadfast, Dyson is also terrific at compromise. He’s pretty much the dream guy, right? I’d take the wolf right along with him, too. Who doesn’t like wolves?

Kenzi reunites with her childhood crush Nate. Is there love in the air?

Here I was, thinking Kenzi and Det. Hale (K.C. Collins) were hooking up. But when Nate (Aaron Ashmore), a childhood crush, shows up, Kenzi tells him she isn’t dating anyone. How amusing that she still remembers him from when she was six years old. That must’ve been some crush! OK, I admit, I had a crush in middle school too — on Randy Brandelli. See? I still remember his name, and I’m much older than Kenzi so I guess it’s not such a stretch that she’d remember him. Nate is surprised by this, and it seems he was quite taken with her too. I don’t like this new development, though. I recall Ashmore from Smallville, or was that his twin brother? I cannot tell them apart. He’s a good enough actor, but bringing Nate into the picture now when she and Hale are about to hook up doesn’t please me. What a way to make me cranky!

I have to wonder what the consequences will be of Bo extracting the other nails from the tree besides Nadia’s. Her wanton and thoughtless action will surely reap serious repercussions; I’m sure there will be some major—and hopefully shocking—developments by the end of this season. I anticipate Bo’s action bringing lasting effects to the Fae world. While I can understand her anger at countless Fae lives being cursed (did you see all of those nails?), she doesn’t know the entire story behind them. Note this ominous statement from The Ash, with clouded face, to Bo when she thanks him for his help: “Try to keep that in mind in the days to come.

Bo is puzzled by the mysterious stranger

Another thing? Trick (Rick Howland) mentions his wife several times on two occasions—both times when he’s giving Bo some of his wife’s possessions. If you recall, Bo previously had a vision that she killed Trick. This makes me think Bo might be Trick’s wife in some other past. Or maybe his daughter? Any way you look at it, I think they’re related. We’ll just have to wait and see!

And, just who was that mysterious stranger at Bo’s birthday party? He leaves her a gift–a thick gold bracelet–and leaves without saying his name. Engraved on the bracelet is an inscription in some ancient language. (Fae, presumably.) Oh, mystery of mysteries!
