Pick a guy Elena before you lose them both!

Is anyone else sick of this love triangle garbage yet? It’s getting old and dragging it out is like beating a dead horse… repeatedly. Can we not see a conclusion to this storyline? Please. *end of rant* I wasn’t sure what to expect with “Do Not Go Gentle” because I try not to get my hopes up too high. The episode is OK, but lacks any real oomph. My first thoughts are “Whoa! WTF!” Does no one stay dead anymore? I understand vampirism (the dead coming back as the undead), but witches coming back to life out of the blue (I could swear momma Original was dead as a doornail) kind of blows my mind. Then I remember nothing is ever as it seems and we have to wait and see what the writers of The Vampire Diaries have up their sleeves. But doggone it if I didn’t see any of the madness that happens coming.

Observations and thoughts:

“I am jealous, but I’m also competitive.” Tyler (Michael Trevino) is brave and possibly stupid. He wants to try out his newfound resistance to his sire bond with Klaus (Joseph Morgan), but I think I’d give it a while longer before trying it out. Tyler’s forgetting who he’s dealing with and it’s going to lead to his demise. Of course, Klaus being the cocky, arrogant man he is makes sure everyone knows “I am the alpha male.” I don’t want anything to happen to Tyler but you know he’s headed down the wrong path.

Caroline might be what Klaus needs to turn his life around. Just a thought.

Caroline (Candice Accola) is good. I still don’t know how she can say no to Klaus. Those blue eyes, pouty pink lips, that accent? Either she’s super loyal to Tyler, or fighting her feelings for Klaus because she doesn’t want to be tempted. I think she’s curious about what Klaus wants to offer her, but she’s afraid of slipping into the dark side and liking it. “Tyler, no matter how many times I dance with him, I love you.” I find it odd she has to keep reminding him of this. Maybe she’s saying it to convince herself… think about it.

I think Klaus touches on a good point with the Salvatore brothers’ “unshakable bond.” Whenever Elena chooses the guy she loves, we’ll see just how close the two brothers remain. I don’t think it’ll be pretty either way you look at it.

“When all this is over, if you and I find our way back to one another, then tell me.” Stefan (Paul Wesley) may not want to hear what happened between Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) on their trip to Denver, but I’m sure he can already guess what happened. You’d have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to know something transpired between the two.

Alaric (Matthew Davis) has gone off the deep end (due to a terribly scripted story arc), but I can’t see why he’s got to be the fall guy. Martyrdom is for the birds! I hate when the good characters get taken out of the picture for ‘the greater good.’ It’s bull and it’s already been hinted at with Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) not that long ago. I think there’d be a public outcry if he was killed off though. Jeremy may not play a huge part in the grand scheme of things, but he’s Elena’s brother. Because when all else fails, you know the bad guys are going to go after the one person who means the most to Elena. But for now, all the focus is on Alaric and his psycho alter-ego who’s hell bent on killing vampires and pretty much anyone else who has anything to do with them. I think I liked it better when Klaus possessed him because at least he had something going for him. This new idea—his dark side reigning terror on Mystic Falls—is not that interesting. While evil Alaric isn’t on the top of my list, I’m okay with the idea of making him more badass. Too bad I don’t get a say in what happens with him.

I'm so glad these two are still around. Who doesn't love eye candy?

Damon offers up one of the few quips this episode due to its serious nature. He catches Bonnie and Jamie mid-smooch and mutters, “Sorry for spoiling your seven minutes in heaven.” I only wish there were more funny lines to quote because “Do Not Go Gentle” is a bit of a downer. There’s hardly any fighting going on, not much Klaus screen time, and Damon and Elena avoid each other like the plague. The season finale is right around the corner and I’m kind of dreading it. Not only will it mean the end of season three, it means someone’s going to die. And maybe Elena will finally decide which of the Salvatore brothers holds her heart.
