TV News: HBO® Offering Free Premiere Episodes of "Veep" and "Girls" for Everyone

HBO has two new comedies premiering this month: Girls and Veep. In what I presume is an effort to gain more subscribers (and who can blame them), the pay channel is offering all viewers a chance to watch the season premieres of both shows for free on a number of platforms.

Once the shows have premiered on HBO, the pilots for Girls and Veep will go live on HBO.com, YouTube, DailyMotion, TV.com, and multiple distributors’ Free On Demand platforms. The sampling opportunity will be promoted on HBO’s Facebook and Twitter profiles and will run from April 16-May 14 for Girls and April 23-May 21 for Veep. (The Veep pilot will also be available free of charge on iTunes during the sampling period.)

Girls premieres Sunday, April 15 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT and follows a group of young women in their 20s living in New York City with all the ups and downs inherent therein. It was created by and stars Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture), along with Jemima Kirke, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet and Adam Driver. Recurring guest stars include Chris Abbott and Alex Karpovsky.

Veep premieres Sunday, April 22, 10:00 p.m. ET/PT and stars Emmy® winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld; The New Adventures of Old Christine). Veep follows Selina Meyer, a woman who becomes vice president, only to discover the job is nothing like she expected, but everything she was warned about. The ensemble cast includes Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Matt Walsh, Reid Scott, Timothy C. Simons and Sufe Bradshaw.
