As FX’s previous announcement that Sons of Anarchy has been renewed for a fifth and sixth, and possibly a seventh season, our sources at FX also confirmed the news today that popular actor Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue, Dexter) is joining the cast in a season-long story arc.

This is excellent news! Smits has proven himself a versatile actor and we at YEC are looking forward to seeing him on one of our favorite FX series. Speaking of FX and Sons of Anarchy (SOA), Kurt Sutter, SOA creator, mentions something about the odd number seven for a series in an interview:
“In terms of the fan base and seven seasons—I threw out the seven-season milestone just because that was my experience on The Shield in terms of when the above-the-line costs become too much. And I knew I could tell the story I wanted to tell in a seven-season arc. I’m hoping we manage to have that length of time to do that.”
