It only takes one person to inspire a world of kindness. Based on the true story, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood in theaters this Thanksgiving.

Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

Almost every child growing up during the broadcast (and the rebroadcasts) of Mister Roger’s Neighborhood wanted to “play pretend” and go on magical journeys on the trolley with the beloved host. It will be exciting to see one of Hollywood’s most treasured actors, Tom Hanks, transform into the unforgettable Mister Rogers.

If you haven’t seen the separate documentary titled Won’t You Be My Neighbor, it’s a must see! There are so many facets to Mr. Fred Rogers, it’s hard to believe so much goodness was within one person. His capacity for kindness and generosity inspired many. And his ability to see past the color of your skin was revolutionary.

Tom Junod is an American journalist. He is the recipient of two National Magazine Awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors.
