Jason to the rescue!

I literally laughed out loud when Jason (Ryan Kwanten) tackles Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), and wraps her in a rug, but then she gains the upper hand. His screaming in panic caught me by surprise and I wasn’t expecting it. (Did anyone really believe Jessica would “bite the dust” so to speak? Come on, we knew Jason would be the one to rescue her.) But his flying tackle was kind of awesome. He looked quite otherworldly all aglow with sunlight beaming behind him, shining through his hair and highlighting his uniform. I wonder if that has any significance to Jason’s storyline. You know, his being a savior to his loved ones. First Andy (Chris Bauer), now Jessica. At least we know he’s taking his job as an officer of the law seriously. That’s probably more than anyone can say for Jason with regard to anything he’s done in his life.

“Spellbound” is laced with subtle hints of the lack of tolerance for prejudice, especially the overwhelming and highlighted prejudice the witches harbor for the vamps. Antonia has a zero-tolerance policy. She wants all vampires eradicated because of what a few did to her throughout her lifetime. I understand her hatred, but she’s generalizing her disgust. Is it warranted? That’s debatable. I want to know what the true meaning behind the storyline is because it has nothing to do with vampires. I think the writers and Alan Ball are taking a stand against prejudice of all kind. We as human beings shouldn’t tolerate hatred against anyone because of their differences. While I agree with this sentiment, I don’t think True Blood is the right platform to voice this opinion. Just saying.

Observations:

The Shreveport pack leader, Marcus Bozeman (Daniel Buran) needs acting lessons. I understand he speaks slowly (as some Southerners do) but he sounds like he’s reading his lines. It would be nice if I felt his performance. Well, I guess I did feel something—boredom.

How about that kiss between Jason and Jessica? Is it just bloodlust or will they have something significant in their future? Poor Hoyt (Jim Parrack). Now his emotions, I felt—even though he expresses them in a dream.

The witch war... how disappointing

Fiona Shaw not only embodies the character of Antonia, she pulls off the Spanish accent beautifully. She’s truly a special addition to the show. I look forward to seeing her every Sunday night especially with the storyline the writers have given her. Antonia’s power suits Marnie. Not only does she command vampires, she wields her magic with finesse. She simply can’t be touched. And now she has herself a new pet. Very exciting!

As a Sookie Stackhouse novel aficionado, I have to say the shower scene between Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and Sookie (Anna Paquin) is such a letdown. I didn’t expect the book scene to be reenacted (I really didn’t), but that trippy, happy time, love fest was bullshit. We know Sookie’s blood is magical, and Eric’s is more potent than others because of his age. But really? They were HIGH. Thanks for nothing!

Alcide (Joe Manganiello) keeps lying to Debbie (Brit Morgan). I want to know when she’s going to call him out on it. Or will she take matters into her own hands and take Sookie out? That, I cannot wait to see. Another girl fight—bring it!

You know Sookie won't die, but will she take Bill's blood?

I’m only mentioning this because it was so uninteresting that I must say something. I don’t give two figs about Mavis (Nondumiso Tembe) and her missing “bébé.” What the hell does this story arc have to do with anything? Is Arlene’s (Carrie Preston) baby some kind of reincarnation of Rene? How does that make sense? Because it doesn’t, anyway you spin it. And the fact that Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) has been pulled into it just perplexes me. I’d love to hear your theories on this one.

What an exciting episode! (No, I’m not being sarcastic.) I’ve been dying to say I really enjoyed an episode since the season began. But I think we can all agree with Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) about the standoff between the vampires and witches: “This is so… fucking… lame.” Except for Eric’s total lack of regard for propriety. I loved seeing him rip out throats and going to town on mofos. That’s the Eric we’ve been missing. Only, I get the feeling he’s going to be Antonia’s lapdog which can only mean bad things. I just gave myself the chills…
