King Bill may have a heart after all
What begins and is interrupted, continues and is finished. If I sound cryptic, it’s because this show is becoming cryptic. Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) relationship seems to go through this cycle each season (and not just during “I Wish I Was the Moon”). They start off friendly; things go to hell in a hand-basket, and then resolve themselves one way or another. Sookie may not always like Eric, but she considers him a constant. No, she won’t admit to depending on him, but she does to a point. Why else would she run to him when she needs help?
“Believe it or not my entire existence does not revolve around what or who is between your legs.” Wow, Bill (Stephen Moyer)! Way to verbally smack down the woman you love. Not only do we see the start of Eric and Sookie’s romantic relationship, but the dawning of knowledge and acceptance in Bill. He had no clue about what was done to Eric or the power the witches have, but now he does simply from having a run in with the 1,000-year-old vamp. Eric is a stranger to Bill. Heck, Eric is a stranger to himself. But he doesn’t want to be the Eric everyone knows. Foreshadowing possibly?
I think Tommy (Marshall Allman) shifting into Sam (Sam Trammell) and playing people for fools is only worth mentioning because Trammell does an excellent impression of his co-star. Who’s the fool though? Luna could sense something was up with “Sam” yet she couldn’t pinpoint exactly what that something was, which I find curious. Wouldn’t Sam have a certain scent she could pick up? What I’m taking away from his experience is you shouldn’t pretend to be someone you aren’t. You might find out things you don’t want to know about yourself and you could end up puking and dying on a trailer floor. Okay, only part of that was meant to be sarcastic. I won’t miss Tommy if he’s gone and I still don’t care about Sam’s storyline.
Observations:
The brother/sister time between Sookie and Jason (Ryan Kwanten) seems contrived at times. Lately they only get together when there’s trouble. Jason never pops in to Sookie’s place anymore just to say hi and eat breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Has Bill grown over the past year? I can’t see him giving up on his love for Sookie but it seems he may have. That’s surprising. Does this mean there’s hope for all vampires? He’s much younger than Eric so it would seem probable that Bill’s able to tap into his human emotions, meaning he has a heart. Eric is right along with him there and completely in tune with who he was as a human being. But what does that mean?
Tommy/Sam doesn’t sound like himself. Why doesn’t anyone notice that?
I get why Alan Ball isn’t pursuing the Jason becomes a Werepanther angle. But I sure would like to know why the Hotshot crew didn’t realize he wouldn’t be turned if they bit him. Was it all a ruse?
I think I enjoy the flashbacks Marnie (Fiona Shaw) has more than the usual episode content. I’m not sure that’s such a good thing.
Has Marnie bit off more than she can chew? She has asked for Antonia (Paola Turbay) to possess her and now that she has, what will be the result? Can Marnie handle it? I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with her new power. She’s one witch who won’t let things go with simply an apology and amends. She’s out for blood.
Funny Lines:
Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) to Eric: “He’s a self-loathing, power hungry, pompous little dork.”

Sam to Andy: “I’m gonna turn into a Doberman and chew off your fucking face.”
Andy to Sam: “Then I will call animal control and have you put to sleep.”

Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) on breakfast: “Goat tongue. For breakfast. Wow. That smells… well done.”

Maxine Fortenberry: “That boy’s dumber than a bucket of spit, and just as useful.”

Jason to Sookie about her taking care of him when he turns: “What do you think that meant? Change my kitty litter?”

Another mediocre episode where we get a few exciting scenes courtesy of Marnie and Eric. Shaw and Skarsgård never disappoint when on screen. I might even confess to being excited when Eric shows up in the woods surprising Sookie. Might. Though I will admit the possession special effects and Skarsgård’s portrayal of Eric still keep me intrigued—but not enough to consider what I’m watching as groundbreaking television anymore. There is so much wrong going on I can’t even begin to put it into words. And I happen to like full moons. Not because of the craziness related to them, but the beautiful glow which shines down upon the earth, filtering through the clouds between the trees. Could that be what we’re meant to see in this episode?
