episode-4-lori-rick

A touching moment between the two, but what's on Lori's mind?

The gang’s all here is what I think as the survivors we’ve come to know as The Walking Dead regulars come together at the farmhouse. The search for Sophia (Madison Lintz) continues and you have to wonder when (if) it will end. It’s been three days already and I think she’s gone, never to be found. I hate to even go there but at this point, having hoped she’s survived seems fruitless. Sophia didn’t seem to be the think-quickly-on-her-feet type, so I don’t see how she could make it alone, in the woods and at night for three days. I wonder whether this hope the group is hanging onto is just for Carol (Melissa McBride) or for themselves. Do they need something good to cling to? Something positive to think about other than trying to survive?

Observations and thoughts:

“He died as he lived, in grace.” Otis (Pruitt Taylor Vince) didn’t die that way. He died with a bullet in his leg, beaten and being fed on by Walkers in order for Shane (Jon Bernthal) to get away. I wonder how the story Shane tells of this fateful occurrence will alter from day to day. He’s told it twice now, to my recollection, but is he able to keep his lies straight? I think they’ll trip him up eventually. Bernthal plays his part extremely well. He lives and breathes Shane Walsh each moment he’s on screen, that’s for sure.

Speaking of Shane, do you think he’s having second thoughts about how he handled Otis? What great character growth he’s been given this season. He seems to be faced with extenuating circumstances but always comes out on top. It’s nice to know he isn’t as heartless as he appears. I can’t wait to see where this change of heart may be going.

episode-4-daryl-crossbow

It's the ultimate zombie hunter! Gotta love Daryl.

I have to give a shout out to the makeup department. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) truly looks like the walking dead. He’s pale, pasty and as close to death as one can get without being… well, dead. Although he looks sickly, his inner strength doesn’t wane. But he’s not the boss at the farm. Two alpha males can’t coexist for long and I think he knows that. The good doctor (Scott Wilson) lays down the law letting Rick know they have to get going before long. You have to wonder why that is. More mouths to feed equals more work maybe? In my opinion, more people would provide a better means of survival, but I get Dr. Hershel’s need to be careful too. He wouldn’t want to be overthrown by any newcomers.

The moment between Shane and Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) is interesting. Do you think she still has feelings for him? Again, they were pretty hot and heavy before Rick turned up (back from the dead!); apparently, those feelings haven’t dissipated. The inner turmoil must be killing her. She’s obligated to her husband but her heart’s not with him. Plus, she’s got someone else to be worried about now…

You can’t tell me some of the events in “Cherokee Rose” aren’t predictable. Glenn (Steven Yeun) falls further into the well than planned—for suspense no doubt; Daryl (Norman Reedus) goes off on his own to find Sophia; and the tainting of the well. I’m with T-Dog (Irone Singleton) on the success of the well operation though. Why waste all that effort to get the Walker out of the water, only to cause more damage (they totally ruined the well)? And eww… how gross is that scene? I can’t even dwell on it for too long. *shudders*

episode-4-glenn-maggie

Sexy times on zombie turf. At least we know they protect themselves.

Okay, how odd is it for Glenn and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) to drop what they’re doing for a little afternoon delight? No worries about zombies stumbling upon them; no hurry to get back to the group; no thought that someone else might be around. I think it’s pretty damn reckless but hey, the next minute could be their last.

“Cherokee Rose” feels like a filler episode and I’d like to know what’s coming next that we needed some sort of preparation. There are some positive points to the episode but I don’t feel we learn anything new about the zombie crew (Rick and the gang) or the farmhouse dwellers. I’d like to think they can all come together as one big happy family, but we know better than that. Time will only tell how long they’ll go without any drama. That’s the excitement I’m waiting for. Bring on the Walkers!
