Jason Priestly and Jennifer Finnagan guest starring as con artists

James Roday and Dulé Hill are a comedic dynamic duo. They have such great chemistry that you have to wonder if it would be possible for them to make such magic with another actor. I don’t think so. Just watching Gus (Hill) read Shawn’s (Roday) thoughts, I can’t stop myself from laughing. The two are hilarious without trying too hard. But I have to admit, seeing Gus without Shawn is a little jarring. Speaking of which, is it just me or does Gus seem to be Shawn’s sidekick instead of his partner? It bothers me that while Gus is the voice of reason, Shawn tends to get credit for everything and always takes the lead when pursuing a case. Not only does Shawn take advantage of Gus, Gus lets him, merely admonishing him with verbal warnings which go over Shawn’s head. It only bothers me because of the blatant roles Hill and Roday play (hero and his sidekick). It would be nice to see them on equal footing. Just saying.

For what, at times, can be ridiculous, Psych is extremely funny. I’m still enjoying the show though this is my first season watching it. Yes, I’m tardy for the party, but I say better late than never. The writing stays true to the focus of the show, which is comedy. It’s funny. There’s some slapstick and physical hijinks which make you laugh, but the dialogue is what grabs your attention and pushes the bounds when it comes to the ha-has.

Henry, Gus and Lassiter in a crazy car chase

Can someone answer me one question though? Why is Gus always hunting for a lady friend? Has he not found a woman enticing enough yet? Maybe he should stop going after women who tend to have the middle name ‘trouble.’

Jason Priestly makes an astounding guest appearance in a part which is a far cry from his Beverly Hills, 90210 days. I love seeing him in such a different role and he does it effortlessly. So far, Psych has had numerous A-list actors this season and they haven’t slouched yet.

Henry (Corbin Bernsen) has game! I don’t expect him to scoop a number as fast as he does, but love the looks on Gus and Lassie’s (Timothy Omundson) faces when he wins their bet. I’m dying to know how he does it.

Hello product placement! Way to slip those brand name beers into the episode.

The absolute funniest thing in this episode is the crazy girl (Arden Myrin) chasing after Henry. Not only is she hilarious, but she takes crazy to the extreme. I would love to see her in future episodes, just to shake things up with Henry.

The lovebirds Shawn and Juliet at the end of their romantic weekend

What an ending. I don’t know what it means for Shawn and Gus, but whatever it is can’t be good. And here I am thinking just one hour of Shawn and Gus separation is too much. Just imagine if the guys don’t get to see each other often because Shawn wants to spend more time with Juliet (Maggie Lawson). Possible problem for the future? We’ll have to wait and see.

Funny lines:

Juliet to Shawn: “You’re acting like a child, Shawn.”

Shawn: “I am not acting!”

**

Shawn to a robbery victim (Tony Hale) about his sunburn: “It looks like Spam.”

**

Shawn to Clive and Barbie: “You guys are horrible people but you’re so cool!”

**

While the case isn’t all that exciting, the episode is good. Not top notch for a finale, but enjoyable nonetheless. It just isn’t the same without Shawn and Gus together. If this is an experiment to see how well an episode would go with the two lead characters separated, I’d say it didn’t do so great. We need the duo together in order to have a successful show. Let’s keep Shawn and Gus in close proximity from now on. Please.
