Ray and Tanya trying to get a loan for their new business venture

There is a lot of sex and nudity in the season premiere. Well, there is in just about every episode of Hung, but you should be used to it as the show is about a man whore (ha ha!). We are reintroduced to what Ray (Thomas Jane) does for his side job and business is booming! Not only is Tanya (Jane Adams) back to her confident self, Ray seems more confident too. They’re finally making headway with Happiness Consultants and making money. When you consider the country’s economic downturn and how difficult it is for college educated people to find work, I can understand how the simple move to opening a store front to find Ray more clients is beneficial to their success. They have a product—a damn good product—and have now found a way to promote it.

Jane is his usual cool, calm and collected personality when portraying Ray. He doesn’t tend to panic in certain situations and I think it displays a part of Ray’s personality we don’t usually see in his everyday life as a school teacher. I think this season we’ll get more of a glimpse into Ray’s extracurricular activities rather than his normal job. Considering it’s what Hung is about, I think it’s a good tactic on the writers’ part.

Observations:

Success! Ray and Tanya admire their new storefront for Happiness Consultants

I adore Adams. She is phenomenal as Tanya and she molds herself into the character so well you believe she truly is Tanya Skagle. Her comedic timing is spot on; her intent stare sucks you in; and her “aha!” moments are enlightening. I smile whenever she is on screen because I know she’ll bring it. Her character is insanely funny without trying to be.

Lenore (Rebecca Creskoff) is back to her old tricks. She wants to crush Tanya and Ray’s efforts and always seems to be one step ahead of them. I don’t know how she does it except that she’s an incredible business woman. Why she doesn’t try to patch things up with those two, I’ll never understand. Oh, right… she’s greedy. If she could have stuck with Tanya as business partners, they’d all be rolling in the dough and making waves.

“The whole country’s fucked up right now.” Tell it like it is Ray. He touches on a topic which is on everyone’s minds and you have to applaud the writers for bringing our everyday reality to life on the small screen. No, we don’t need the reminder, but we can definitely relate to people going through what we may be going through as well. Everything has entertainment value and if you can’t laugh at yourself, well…

I wasn't expecting to see Jessica around, but here she is...

It’s interesting to see how Ray has grown since last season. He makes an effort to listen to the women he’s with and show them he’s listening. (But you know he really isn’t listening.) He’s faced with an awkward moment (a potential threesome) which is laugh out loud funny and you know he’s totally in it for the sex. Jane slyly pulls off Ray’s explanation to Jessica (Anne Heche) on how he fixed the house with substitute teaching money. She’s not buying it, and we know better.

Funny lines:

Jason (Stephen Amell) to Lenore: “You know that I’m not like a whatever, hooker dude? Right?”

**

Joanie to Judy about her bailing on the consultation: “When was the last time you saw a penis?”

**

Expect the usual comedy, full frontal female nudity and awesome Tanya moments only Hung can bring. We’re off to a great start this season and I’m looking forward to what’s to come.
