[singlepic id=2363 w=320 h=240 float=left] A young woman is found half-eaten in her terrarium with her pet python slithering around inside her decaying intestines – it’s enough to make anyone vomit, and I nearly did. But, I complained about last week’s uninteresting murder case. Although this one has a more unique back story, it still isn’t as enticing as the new intern Finn’s (guest star Luke Kleintank) past! From juvenile delinquent to brilliant scientist—with his occasional quirky euphemisms like, “Cut my legs off and call me shorty”—and his Southern charm, I really like Finn a lot!

Cam (Tamara Taylor) takes some heat from Caroline (Patricia Belcher) about hiring Finn, but his records were sealed, so Cam didn’t know the full extent of Finn’s misgivings. Many of the characters are prejudiced against and judging Finn based on his past rather than his current demeanor. Haven’t we all done something deemed a little less than noble in our lives? Sure assault is a heavy crime to bear, but without knowing the circumstances, it’s hard to judge. I shouldn’t be surprised by Hodgins’ (TJ Thyne) insensitivity since he’s always had a belief in government conspiracies and whatnot, but for him to be rude towards Finn simply shocks me. I want to smack him for being so derisive. But Finn proves to be smarter than the average scientist in the ways of human kindness and shows Hodgins a very cool trick for getting a python to cough up evidence – literally! It is very interesting while simultaneously being totally disgusting!

[singlepic id=2362 w=320 h=240 float=right] Bones/Brennan (Emily Deschanel) is having a girl! Too bad Booth (David Boreanaz) finds out second hand along with everyone else. Here’s my beef with Brennan – she was 15 years old when she was put into the foster care system. She was old enough to know certain things and had experience with both her parents to have developed some social skills. For the life of me, I don’t understand why she is so oblivious to those skills. Sure she’s adapted a new persona, so to speak, to compensate for being in foster care and the harshness that can sometimes coincide but honestly, I think her not telling Booth about the ultrasound is just wrong – plain and simple. Though, I will say I love Deschanel’s performance as the somewhat ditzy, albeit brilliant scientist when it comes to the relationship being established between Brennan and Booth this season. She’s very convincing and quite adorable in her pregnancy.

What I would love to see is the writers giving Brennan a bit more depth as to her growth over the past six seasons. Her friendship with Angela (Michaela Conlin) is evolving and provides insight into Brennan’s desire to become more open and accepting of love. Brennan has spent so much time shutting herself off so she won’t be hurt, I know the birth of the baby will soften her resolve tenfold.

[singlepic id=2360 w=320 h=240 float=left] I definitely want to see more of Finn. I think he might be my replacement for our fallen comrade Mr. Vincent Nigel-Murray (Ryan Cartwright). And while I am happy to see Caroline in this episode instead of a Trident gum commercial, her part in raising suspicions about Finn’s past disappoints me. However, I do wonder if Finn isn’t being completely truthful about the disappearance of his abusive stepfather.

While again the murder victim’s back story of being a competitive eater doesn’t ’wow’ me, it is unique that she’s a very petite young Asian woman with the ability to dislocate her jaw. It makes it easier for her to shove food in her mouth twice as fast! The one aspect of these semi-boring cases is how the clues are unraveled. The way everyone interacts with one another and how they use such brilliant methods at solving the puzzle is always on point. When the snake slithers out of the woman’s intestines at the lab, it’s both comical and unsettling. Again, I would love to see our victims have more complex back stories. I know most people have simple lives but this is television – make something up! Maybe there can be a victim who is murdered because of his/her fetishes leading to some macabre past dealing in the black market sex slave trade. Just a thought.

Judy Manning

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.
