“So the animals debated how they might drive the robbers out, and at last settled on an idea.” —Grimm

The title, a play on words from the film Natural Born Killers, seems befitting in light of what the episode encapsulates – a Wesen uprising is coming. And to rid themselves of their pesky intruders, the Wesen have always turned to their old tried and true methods of eradicating a burden by calling a meeting of “the council.” Apparently, this council is no joke; its members are centuries old elite exterminators, if you will, ridding the Wesen bunch of the bad apples. “Natural Born Wesen” may not give us any more insight into Adalind’s (Claire Coffee) pregnancy, but it does shed light on what’s to come.

Nick is called to investigate a bank robbery with thieves wearing ‘masks’

Last we saw, Nick (David Giuntoli) drank the thick, white potion to help his beloved Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) break her lust-spell with Captain Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz). But if you were expecting magical fairy dust and ‘bibbity-bobbity-boop, the curse is broken,’ you were wrong, and thankfully so. I’m delighted that it’s going to take a little more time to undo this witchy hex. It seems the second elixir both Juliette and Sean consumed may be causing some serious hallucinations for Juliette. How else to explain the ginormous, growling black hole in her living room floor with weird flying lightning blobs. I’m not sure how else to explain them other than that. The low guttural wind in the seemingly endless void puzzles me the most. Ok, it freaked me out a little. I knew she was going to fall in after dropping her cell phone, but then I began wondering whether this was just a test of her bravery. Could the absent floor be a figment of her potion laden mind? All I know is the ominous phone call she receives in the middle of the night is just the tip of this outrageous iceberg: “I just want you to know the truth.”

Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) is involved in a bank robbery; not as the thief but as a reluctant witness. It seems three ballsy Wesen have chosen to expose their true nature to humans during the heist, which breaks an über ancient Wesen codex. Monroe knows this is not good but it’s Rosalee (Bree Turner) who is able to help in a way he never expected. Who knew Rosalee’s family was so well connected, providing her with the direct number for someone on the council? It’s sort of like calling the mob to whack someone. Rosalee has an uneasy feeling about contacting them but what choice does she have? The entire Wesen community looks to her family for help in these situations. That’s a lot of pressure for one person to carry but I think she’ll rise to the challenge with grace. The spice shop is, as I’ve previously mentioned, a character on its own, and provides a safe haven for Wesen.

Interesting lines:

Monroe to Juliette: “There are a lot of things in the human body, hormonal and chemical, that can trigger these inexplicable, emotional nuclear melt downs…pheromones gone wild.”

***

Sean to Nick: “Because I trust you more than I trust my family…The families will stop at nothing to get their hands on those keys and you.”

The culmination of “Natural Born Wesen” comes when Cole (Callard Harris), one of the Wesen robbers, explains something to Nick: “We’re just the beginning of what’s coming. You’re not gonna be able to stop it now. Nobody will and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. We’ll be out by the end of the night.” Of course, the last part of the statement is partly true; they are out by the end of the night, but in body bags. I’m not sure what’s coming but I know it’s going to be exciting. The cryptic conversation Sean has with Nick in his office only makes things that much more mysterious. I relish in it. I love when the writers keep me guessing—keeping things unpredictable. And I’m sure we’ll see more of “De Groot,” if this is the first of more Wesen-fueled incidents to come.

Judy Manning

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.
