TV News: “True Blood” August Episodes

Things seem to be heating up on next month’s new episodes of True Blood.

Review: True Blood, S4, E40 – “I’m Alive and on Fire”

It’s nice to see the innate aggression between vampires and Weres brought to light. We don’t often get a glimpse of their interacting outside of the norm so it’s interesting to see the fangs come out and the growling commence.

Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2

For the many fans who’ve read the books, #HarryPotter and the Deathly Hallows (HPDH-P1/P2) more than lives up to the story as written by the amazing Rowling. Without spoiling it for those who haven’t read the books, HPDH-P2 picks up exactly where HPDH-P1 left off as Lord Voldemort takes the Elder Wand from the tomb of Professor Dumbledore. As Harry, Ron, and Hermione continue their tireless and exhausting search for the remaining horcruxes, Harry begins to feel Voldemort more and more.

Advance Review: Haven, Season 2, Ep. 201 “Tale of Two Audreys”

As FBI Agent Audrey Parker(1) is confronted by another Agent Audrey Parker (2) (Kathleen Munroe), the fun doesn’t stop there. After Duke (Eric Balfour) unexpectedly discovers the city’s water has turned to blood, it gets even worse. Next are the frogs, gnats, flies, dead cattle, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and the grand finale– death of the first born sons. Nathan is a first born son. Can the two Audreys come together to stop what’s happening or will Nathan, along with the other first born sons, perish?

Book Review: “The Birth of Venus” by Sarah Dunant

It kills me to say it but I felt let down once we reached the climax. It was somewhat predictable to have things go smoothly for her where I thought they would fall apart and actually get exciting.

Review: #WilfredFX, Season 1, Ep 104 “Acceptance” (I’ll never look at peanut butter the same way)

Warning – “Acceptance” is chock full of lewd sexual references, gestures, and language. Wilfred is by far one of my new favorite shows on television right now. The insane, politically incorrect, lewd, crude, and outrageous comedy brings a sense of fulfillment to my slightly demented soul. The more I watch, the more I wish Wilfred (Jason Gann) was my neighbor’s dog so I can have silly adventures like Ryan (Elijah Wood).

Review: Franklin & Bash, S1, E7 – “Franklin vs. Bash”

If I haven’t said it before, I’ll say it now – I. Love. This. Show! Sure, it tends to be campy and silly at times, but it’s charming and never fails to make me laugh. And if that isn’t a recipe for good entertainment, I don’t know what is.

Review: White Collar, S3, E6 – “Scott Free”

The chess match begins anew between Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) and Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) with this latest caper. The themes of choice and identity are gaining in strength, leaving viewers to wonder where this tightrope the characters are subconsciously walking will lead, and if we’ll like what we see when we reach that destination.

Recap/Review: The Glee Project, S1, E4 – “Dance Ability”

“Dance Ability” as a theme posed a tough problem for a lot of the contenders. Harry Shum Jr.was the only guest they could have chosen for this challenge. The kids have to worry about more than just their feet to win this week and earn a call back.

Review: Leverage, S4, E3 – “The 15 Minutes Job”

This season of Leverage is really upping the stakes for the team. In “The 15 Minutes Job,” the team sets out to take down Rockwell (Michael Gladis) who is, in many ways, a mirror image of Nate (Timothy Hutton). The episode focuses our attention on Nate and his relationship to the team and his own inner demons. Rockwell’s statement “Only our heroes fall” could apply to Nate even as it becomes a basis for this week’s job.

Advance Review: Rescue Me, Season 7 Premiere – “Mutha”

The writing is, and has always been, brilliant. That’s quite a feat considering the majority of episodes have been written by only three people (Leary, co-creator Peter Tolan, and Evan Reilly). There’s been a fair share of drama, laughter, tragedies and triumphs, which will undoubtedly continue throughout Rescue Me’s final season. It’s interesting to note that with 9/11 playing such a huge role in the show, Leary and Tolan have arranged for the final episode to run on September 7th to coincide with the week of the tenth anniversary of that terrible tragedy. I think it’s a fitting ending.

TNT’s Hit Series FALLING SKIES Invades Comic-Con with Panel, Preview Clips, Autograph Session and Collectible Pin Series.

Review: The Closer, Season 7, Ep. 1, “Unknown Trouble”

This show is always so exciting. There are shots fired, a man strangling a woman, and another guy drowning a man in the toilet all in one scene. Talk about suspense.

Review: The Big C, Season 2, Ep. 203 “Sexual Healing”

It seems everyone in the neighborhood related to Cathy is having intimacy issues. With the intense cancer treatments, Cathy doesn’t feel much like having sex with Paul; Adam’s girlfriend Mia doesn’t want to rush into things but Adam doesn’t want to hold back; And all Sean can seem to focus on is Rebecca’s “hairy-olas.”

Advance Review: @Syfy #Warehouse13, Season 3, Ep 301 “The New Guy” (Where for art thou, new guy?)

With Myka gone, the omnipresent and formidable Mrs. Frederic (CCH Pounder) must find a suitable new partner for Pete. Enter Steve Jinks (guest star Aaron Ashmore). Steve’s got a knack for knowing when people are lying. As a matter of fact, his ability is downright supernatural. Of course, that hasn’t been proven…yet. What I love about the show are the characters and the various eclectic objects they find. It’s funny, inventive, and charming.

Review: The Glades, S2, E5 – “Dirty Little Secrets”

In the sophomore year of this police drama, “murder is back in season.” But it’s not just the episodic crime mysteries coming across the desk of Homicide Detective Jim Longworth (Matt Passmore) keeping viewers tuned in; it’s the chemistry and shifting dynamics of the police department in Palm Glades, Florida. A captivating cast led by Passmore’s cocky yet charming Longworth entertainingly bounces through personal drama and case-triggered tensions.

Advance Review: #Eureka, Season 4.5, Ep. 411 “Liftoff”

I’m really digging this show! Eureka is a very fun show! The humor, the heart, the brains, and the people – it really feels like this place could actually exist. I mean, who says it doesn’t already? “Liftoff” – While Fargo pretends to be an astronaut in a rocket capsule, Zane inadvertently installs a device into the engine which launches them into space. With limited oxygen and no communication equipment on board, Fargo and Zane must do what they can while hoping their friends at GD figure out a way to bring them home safely.

Recap/Review: The Real Housewives of New Jersey, S3, E8 – “Holidazed and Confused”

“Holidazed and Confused” is a rather tame episode, at least by The Real Housewives of New Jersey standard. In fact, there’s no real drama at all; something I haven’t seen in a very long time!

Review: #FallingSkies, Season 1, Ep. 5 “Silent Kill” (Operation – Rescue Ben)

When I watch Falling Skies, I’ve noticed little things left behind that showcase the Americans’ naivety along with their patriotism. The JFK High School walls have painted murals of the country’s founding fathers, and on the school’s bulletin board there are magazine clippings of articles about the aliens coming to Earth. The show continues to intrigue me. While I get answers to some of my questions, it seems I have more questions after learning the answers to others. I suppose that’s a good thing, right?

Review: True Blood, S4, Ep 39 “If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin'”

WTF writers? The horrible way in which this book adaptation is being handled irritates me. They’ve ruined a good thing without probable cause. It wouldn’t have been difficult to stick with the fantastic story already laid out for this season.

Movie Review: “Last Night” Disappoints

“Last Night” is more of a thinking man’s movie. Still, it goes nowhere and lacks in many aspects. For a movie based on sex, seduction and infidelity, there are few sexual scenes. And even those are mediocre and uneventful. I expected more. All in all, “Last Night” disappoints. As a movie with entertainment value, it falls flat. At least for me.

Book Review: “House of Sand and Fog” by Andre Dubus III

I’m torn between really loving and simply liking House of Sand and Fog because it has me thinking about so many different things.

Review: #WilfredFX , Season 1, Ep. 3 “Fear” (Transsexual Porn-Fest, Tampon Strings, and the Poop-Burglar)

We finally get to meet the “asshole” neighbor, Spencer (Ethan Suplee). After Wilfred admits he “definitely” (and intentionally) left Ryan’s wallet at the scene of their crime at Spencer’s, including stealing primo marijuana known as Purple Thunder Paranoia and defecating in Spencer’s boots, Ryan gets a tad bit nervous when Spencer comes banging on his door. Instead of owning up to the crime as Wilfred instructs, Ryan deflects the accusation by saying he too was burglarized and the thief “took a dump” on his Blu-Ray™ player.
