Fate, Love Triangles and Blood. Review: Vikings “Brother’s War”

The year is 796, Scandinavia. A battle between two brothers is about to begin as the highly anticipated Vikings returns in the season two premiere “Brother’s War.” The action picks up at the center of last season’s most critical conflict: brothers Rollo (Clive Standen) and Ragnar Lothbrook (Travis Fimmel) are finally about to collide in an epic clash.

Season of the Back Stab. Review: Justified – “Raw Deal”

Ask and you shall receive. At the end of “Kill the Messenger,” I mentioned in my recap that I wanted to see the Mexican heroin deal go down, and for Boyd (Walton Goggins) and Johnny (David Meunier) to square off. “Raw Deal” gives us that and so much more. As much as I like Boyd to have antagonists nipping at his heels, his cousin Johnny is really becoming more of a nuisance than formidable adversary.

Interview: Matthew Rhys Talks Season 2 of The Americans

As a huge fan of The Americans (I reviewed the show last season here on YEC), I was thrilled to participate in a conference call last Friday with Matthew Rhys, star of FX’s hit political series. He plays Philip Jennings, husband to Keri Russell’s Elizabeth. Matthew was very forthcoming with his answers and discussed some of the things we can expect to see in season two of the Cold War/Reagen-age dramatic series.

Mullets and Crazy Cheese. Review: The Walking Dead – “Claimed”

I’ve been watching The Walking Dead since its premiere four years ago, and I have to say I’m getting worried. If I can’t stomach watching the little bit of zombie killing that goes on in “Claimed,” I have no idea how I’ll get through the rest of this season and the next.

It’s Good to be Home Again. Advance Review of Season Two Premiere: The Americans – “Comrades”

If fans were worried that the second season of The Americans wouldn’t be as great as the first, worry no more. Season two is masterful at its storytelling; it’s intriguing, captivating, charismatic, and full of the deceit, treachery, sexual escapades, and even more irony than we saw in its freshman season. This is definitely on my must-see TV list this season, and should be on yours.

Holy Ship! Retrospective: Black Sails – “V.”

In the latest episode of the STARZ series Black Sails, pirate problems and sea battles abound in “V.” Recent episodes have been slow, and it appeared the show was losing some of its steam as the characters spent more time on land than on sea. Thank goodness that’s not the case anymore as “V.” quickly makes up for lost time this week, giving viewers all the bloodshed and battles promised since the very beginning!

Are We There Yet? Retrospective: Black Sails – “IV.”

We still haven’t made it off shore yet in episode “IV.” of Black Sails but that doesn’t mean the aftermath of “III.” hasn’t had its consequences for everyone. There are nice subtle touches in “IV.” that show the shifting relationships between several main characters, and there’s plenty of humor to keep the tone pretty even-keeled.

Tropical Toad Smoothie? Recap: Grimm – “Love Is In the Air: Elegant Endeavors”

Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) is hosting an “Elegant Endeavors” party in her home for woman to purchase intimate items from the sales rep.
