USA Network is set to continue its track record of highly-rated and award-winning original series for the 2014-2015 television season. The network today announced the cast-contingent pilot pick-up for the hour-long original drama series STANISTAN (Universal Cable Productions) and a strong development pipeline of original series.

Production begins this month in Morocco on Lifetime’s major miniseries The Red Tent, based on the best-selling novel by Anita Diamant. The Red Tent is the sweeping tale of Dinah, the daughter of Leah and Jacob, who was only referred to in small glimpses in the Old Testament. Starz announced today that its highly anticipated new original series “Outlander,” adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”) will debut Saturday, August 9th at 9pm ET/PT. The sixteen-episode first season is currently shooting on location in Scotland.

After last week’s “Nobody Knows the Trubel I’ve Seen,” I had high hopes “My Fair Wesen” would be just as exciting. Unfortunately, it misses the mark just a bit. With only two episodes left this season, you would think “My Fair Wesen” would step it up a notch, giving us more insight into how this season’s events will be wrapped up. While there are clues in “My Fair Wesen,” I wanted more.

On April 30, I had the opportunity to participate in a conference call with Colin Hanks, star of the FX series, Fargo, which is based on the 1996 Coen Brothers’ film of the same name. The Coen Brothers took a back seat with the series, serving only as executive producers. Noah Hawley developed and wrote the series. Hanks plays Duluth Minnesota police officer Gus Grimley, a passive yet endearing single father.
