Penny Dreadful – “Grand Guignol” Review. Change of Heart.

It’s been a while since I longed for an episode of anything and Penny Dreadful’s season finale changes that. Anticipating what could possibly top the frightening events that transpired in the penultimate episode, “Possession,” had me speculating and reassessing several points of view I have had about the characters throughout the entire season. The season finale, “Grand Guignol,” provides an answer to a certain lingering thought I have had about a certain American sharp shooter, and there are several surprise turns of events, including a change of heart for more than one person.

Falling Skies – “The Eye” Recap. Don’t Drink the Kool-Aid.

“The earth is a gift. The new coalition must protect it with our Espheni brothers. Joined together, we will build a beautiful world.” — The Pledge
“The Eye” jolts us with that old fighting spirit the 2nd Mass crew is known for. I’m ready to shout, “Vive la révolution!”

Trailer: James Franco’s CHILD OF GOD In Theaters Aug 1

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker James Franco, and based on the chilling novel by Cormac McCarthy, Child of God, tells the provocative story of Lester Ballad (Scott Haze), a dispossessed, violent man, attempting to exist outside the social order. Consecutively deprived of parents and housing and driven by famished loneliness, Ballard descends literally and figuratively to the level of a cave dweller as he falls deeper into crime and degradation.

On May 20, 2009, four men from the impoverished and largely African-American city of Newburgh, NY, were apprehended for an alleged terror plot. They had no history of violence or terrorist ties, but had been drawn by a Pakistani FBI informant into a carefully orchestrated scheme to bomb Jewish synagogues in a wealthy New York City suburb and fire Stinger missiles at U.S. military supply planes. Their dramatic arrest, complete with armored cars, a SWAT team and FBI aircraft, played out under the gaze of major TV outlets, ultimately resulting in 25-year prison sentences for the “Newburgh Four.”

Suits – “Two in the Knees” Retrospective. Surrogate Son.

Tensions grow between Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Mike (Patrick J Adams) as the maneuvering to gain control over Walter Gillis’ (Michael Gross) company continues. Can their friendship find its way back to where it once was or are the two heading for destruction?

Tyrant Series Premiere – “Pilot” Spoiler-Free Review. Just When He Thought He Was Out…

Given the success of many FX television series, I was very much anticipating the series premiere of FX’s newest political drama, Tyrant. Since I have already reviewed two other political dramas, Showtime’s Homeland and FX’s The Americans, I figured this was right up my proverbial alley. Lucky me, I was given the first four episodes for review purposes.

Falling Skies – “Ghost in the Machine” Retrospective. War Rages On.

As “Ghost in the Machine” opens, we see our rag tag group from the 2nd Mass making their way toward some semblance of what they call “home,” but Charleston isn’t the same anymore and our group finds that out very quickly. The Espheni aliens have rallied their forces and are hitting back, hard. They’re using a new method to wrangle humans –large triangular staffs that emit impenetrable and lethal laser grids. So why are they gathering humans rather than destroying them? This will be the burning question presiding over the season, at least for the first few episodes.

The Last Ship – “Phase Six” Review. The Cure?

The Last Ship is one of the best action dramas I’ve seen in a long while. This going to be a big summer hit for TNT! “Phase Six” is exciting, intense, and action packed! “Phase Six” draws you in and leaves you breathless as the USS Nathan James sets sail for the Arctic under false orders. It carries on board two scientists from the CDC, and when Commander Officer (CO) Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) learns what his true mission is, it’s a race to survive and help Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) find a cure for a global pandemic.

Penny Dreadful – “Possession” Review. Mother of Evil.

Viewer discretion is more than advised, it’s warranted. “Possession” lives up to its name giving us some of the darkest 59 minutes of television I’ve seen in a long while. It is not for the squeamish. “Possession” makes no apologies about the violence and vile behavior exhibited by the tortured Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) as she desperately battles against the dark forces trying to claim her for their own. “Possession” takes us on an arduous journey endured by Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton), Sembene (Danny Sapani), Victor (Harry Treadaway), and Ethan (Josh Hartnett) as they do everything they can to help save Vanessa from both herself and the demons inside her.
