Shameless – “Carl’s First Sentencing” Retrospective. Suffering the Consequences.

“Carl’s First Sentencing” is another solid episode of Shameless. It is filled with good times Gallagher-style, and sad moments when Ian realizes he is his mother after all. Macy and Monaghan provide the best acting in this episode, both of them touching the hearts of the viewers.

Black Sails  – “XVI” Retrospective. Monsters or Men?

Never underestimate the kind of punch Black Sails can deliver in an episode, especially if it is anything like “XVI.” As the latest installment of the dramatic pirate series, “XVI” is methodical with its storytelling; it begins gradually but escalates quickly to a series of violent and disturbing conclusions.

The Americans – “Walter Taffet” Retrospective. The Best Laid Plans.

As a first-time director of The Americans, Emmerich does a fantastic job with “Walter Taffet.” Wisely, he puts himself in only a few scenes so he can concentrate on the job at hand. With terrific editing and superior acting, “Walter Taffet” is the episode I’ve been waiting for. It has plenty of suspense and intrigue, and even a bit of humor (“Hi, honey!”).

Justified – “Dark As a Dungeon” Recap. Old Ghosts and New Temptations.

If saying I’m flummoxed would cover it, I would, but I’m beyond that now. I know I’ve said I’m intrigued by the capricious nature of the final season of Justified; however, some of the story lines are becoming a bit too convoluted. While I appreciate chasing down clues in “Dark As a Dungeon,” I’m not quite sure what is a clue and what isn’t. Needless to say, if you want unpredictability, you definitely get it in this episode.

The Walking Dead – “Forget” Review. Don’t Ask For Anymore Cookies.
