TV News: Smithsonian Channel Set to Premiere Docu-Series Boomtowners April 26 1

The oil boom that has been drawing thousands of workers to the Bakken shale region of North Dakota and Montana is the subject of a new Smithsonian Channel docu-series. BOOMTOWNERS, comprised of six one-hour episodes, will debut Sunday, April 26 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. The series chronicles the daily lives of people who live and work in the Bakken region, the epicenter of the area’s oil boom. Oil was originally discovered in the area in 1951, but the recent development of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, has rapidly transformed the Bakken into one of the world’s leading oil-producing regions. Since 2010, when the boom began, production has grown to over one million barrels of oil a day, which has led to lower gas prices in the United States.

The Americans - "Walter Taffet" Retrospective. The Best Laid Plans. 2

As a first-time director of The Americans, Emmerich does a fantastic job with “Walter Taffet.” Wisely, he puts himself in only a few scenes so he can concentrate on the job at hand. With terrific editing and superior acting, “Walter Taffet” is the episode I’ve been waiting for. It has plenty of suspense and intrigue, and even a bit of humor (“Hi, honey!”).

Justified – “Dark As a Dungeon” Recap. Old Ghosts and New Temptations. 11

If saying I’m flummoxed would cover it, I would, but I’m beyond that now. I know I’ve said I’m intrigued by the capricious nature of the final season of Justified; however, some of the story lines are becoming a bit too convoluted. While I appreciate chasing down clues in “Dark As a Dungeon,” I’m not quite sure what is a clue and what isn’t. Needless to say, if you want unpredictability, you definitely get it in this episode.

“Forget” is a filler episode. It’s not terrible and we learn a few things about people we probably wouldn’t have guessed. I’m still not sure where things are going but I’m definitely along for the ride.

Smithsonian Channel Presents Siege of Masada Premiering March 27 22

Smithsonian Channel™ investigates the real story that inspired CBS’ Limited Event Series The Dovekeepers. The legend of Masada is the Alamo of the ancient world, the story of more than 900 Jewish rebels who held a nearly impregnable fort against the might of the Roman Empire. Embedded in the founding narrative of the state of Israel, this epic story has offered ample fodder to writers, filmmakers and storytellers worldwide – and it’s now the backdrop for the upcoming CBS limited event series THE DOVEKEEPERS from executive producers Roma Downey and Emmy® Award-winner Mark Burnett. But how much of the Masada legend is grounded in historical fact?
