FREEFORM CORRALS THE CAST FOR THE UPCOMING PILOT “BRECKMAN RODEO” (WORKING TITLE)

Jess Gabor, Noah Le Gros, Kayla Wallace, Diego Josef, Vinnie Bennett and James Tarpey Join the Pilot in Series Regular Roles

Today, Freeform, Disney’s young adult television network, announced the cast for “Breckman Rodeo” (working title), its upcoming pilot from creator/writer Steve Lerner and the executive producers of the award-winning drama “The Americans,” Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields.

Jess Gabor (“Shameless”) stars as Ashley, a smart and confident barrel racer who is determined to be the first female saddle bronc rider at the amateur rodeo. Noah Le Gros (“The Get Down”) plays Brant, a masterful rider who is about to go pro, leaving high school early to make his mark in the professional world of rodeo. Diego Josef (“Goliath”) stars as Miles, a rodeo clown and born showman with a self-destructive streak that’s just starting to surface. Kayla Wallace (“The Good Doctor”) will portray Samantha, not a “rodeo type,” who’s been dealt more than her fair share of bad hands in life, but keeps fighting through them. Vinnie Bennett (“Human Traces”) plays Vinnie, a bull rider who epitomizes all that is rodeo. He’s usually the most handsome and charming guy in the room, and he knows it. James Tarpey (“After Hours”) rounds out the cast as Tuffy, the youngest rider who is often the brunt of some playful jokes. He has grown up in a tough environment and has learned some problematic attitudes.

FREEFORM GREENLIGHTS PILOT FROM ‘THE AMERICANS’ DUO

New Drama Hails from Creator/Producer Steve Lerner,

Producers Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg and FX Productions

(July 24, 2018) — Freeform announced a pilot order for “Breckman Rodeo” (working title) from creator/writer Steve Lerner and the executive producers of the award-winning drama “The Americans,” Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields. Fields and Weisberg are executive producers, and Lerner is Co-Executive Producer of the pilot, which is produced by FX Productions.

“Breckman Rodeo” (wt) is an ensemble drama about a group of young rodeo riders in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The show centers on Ashley, a rodeo-as-hell sparkplug who refuses to stay within the lines that have been drawn for her, and her boyfriend Brant, a rodeo prodigy torn between a content, quiet life and the rocky climb to superstardom. Brant, Ashley and their friends will have to reconcile the traditional values of their sport and their upbringing with the changing realities of the 21st century.

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Freeform, FX Productions and the brilliant Steve Lerner on his one-of-a-kind coming of age gem, ‘Breckman Rodeo’ (working title),” said Fields and Weisberg. “When Steve, who grew up in Cheyenne, first showed us his amazing script, we asked him if there was really such a thing as a high school rodeo team. Steve has been bringing us up to speed ever since. His show is a heartfelt look at teenage life in Cheyenne – familiar to some, not to others, but sure to move and surprise everyone.”

“Growing up in Wyoming, I loved going to the rodeo,” added Lerner. “I’m excited to bring the stories and people of my hometown to the screen. Freeform, FXP and the J’s (Joe and Joel) have been wonderful collaborators, and I’m thrilled to shoot this pilot with them.”
