THE CW FOR 24th ANNUAL CEREMONY

The Gala Event Will Air Live Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019

News: Critics' Choice Awards to Return to The CW for the 24th Annual Ceremony on Jan. 13, 2019 1(Los Angeles, CA – September 11, 2018) – The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) are pleased to announce that the 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards will air LIVE on The CW Network on Sunday, January 13, 2019 (7:00-10:00p.m. Live ET/ Delayed PT).  The show will continue its combined Film and Television awards format, honoring the finest in both cinematic and televised/streaming achievement, and take place once again at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

The BFCA and BTJA also announced new timelines for the Film and Television awards:

FILM AWARDS

  • December 3, 2018 – Nominating ballots go out to BFCA members
  • December 7, 2018 – Deadline for returning nominating ballots
  • December 10, 2018 – Critics’ Choice Awards Film nominations announced
  • January 10, 2019 – Final ballots go out to BFCA members
  • January 11, 2019 – Deadline for returning final ballots

 

TELEVISION AWARDS

  • November 26, 2018 – Nomination Committees begin consideration
  • December 7, 2018 – Nomination Committees render recommendations
  • December 10, 2018 – Critics’ Choice Awards TV nominations announced
  • January 10, 2019 – Final ballots go out to BTJA members
  • January 11, 2019 – Deadline for returning final ballots

 

The 23rd annual Critics’ Choice Awards were hosted by actress and activist Olivia Munn. “The Shape of Water” was the most nominated film and it took home four awards, the most of the night, including Best Picture and Best Director.  The top film acting awards were bestowed upon Gary Oldman, who took home Best Actor for his work in “Darkest Hour,” and Frances McDormand, awarded Best Actress for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”  McDormand’s co-star Sam Rockwell won the trophy for Best Supporting Actor, while Best Supporting Actress went to Allison Janney for her standout performance in “I, Tonya.”

“Big Little Lies” also won four awards, including Best Limited Series and Best Actress in a Movie Made for TV or Limited Series for Nicole Kidman.  “The Handmaid’s Tale” won Best Drama Series, while “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” won Best Comedy Series. Gal Gadot received the #SeeHer Award, presented by her “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins.

“Critics’ Choice Awards” are bestowed annually by the BFCA and BTJA to honor the finest in cinematic and television achievement.  The BFCA is the largest film critics’ organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 300 television, radio and online critics. BFCA members are the primary source of information for today’s film-going public. BTJA is the collective voice of journalists who regularly cover television for TV viewers, radio listeners and online audiences. Historically, the “Critics’ Choice Awards” are the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations.

The 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards show will be produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment.  The BFCA and BTJA are represented by Dan Black of Greenberg Traurig and WME.
