“You can’t kill me…you need me alive.” — Artie

Murder in the Warehouse! Review: Warehouse 13, S4 "The Ones You Love" 1The evil of Artie’s (Saul Rubinek) own making becomes deadlier than I imagined. Not only have artifacts gone missing—causing mayhem in the world—but now the team’s families are involved and getting caught in the line of fire. As Myka (Joanne Kelly), Pete (Eddie McClintock), and Claudia (Allison Scagliotti) race to save their loved ones, Jinks (Aaron Ashmore) joins Mrs. Frederic (CCH Pounder) in Rome as they try to find clues within the Vatican walls.

“The Ones You Love” raises the stakes in the artifacts game when families are being threatened. Myka must go to her pregnant sister Tracy (guest star Amy Acker) in Colorado Springs, but finding the artifact that’s affecting her is easier said than done. I loved watching Kelly and Acker fight like real siblings. The cattiness was spot on. It even gets physical when Tracy attacks Myka with a knife. How are you going to beat up your pregnant sister? You can’t right? Not unless you’re a highly trained Secret Service Agent who knows how to handle herself. The fight scenes were excellently choreographed and very fun to watch. What? Who doesn’t like a good sister fight?

Warehouse 13 - S4 Ep 409 - The Ones You LovePete’s race to save his ex-wife Amanda (guest star Jeri Ryan) nearly proves deadly for both of them. Pete stays true to himself, diffusing his fear with cheesy humor. I love Pete. Although, he’s been shirtless many times this season and still needs a tan. Love ya, McClintock but damnit man, get a spray tan or something! He makes what he thinks is a final request to Amanda, “Tell’em to name something after me. Not a mall.” Oh Pete. But it’s his intensely emotional call to his partner Myka that has me on edge, “I think this might be the end.” Can he neutralize the tattoo before he goes nuclear?

Mrs. Frederic seems supernatural at times. One minute she’s standing in front of you then in the blink of an eye, she’s across the room. I know Jinks was thinking the same thing when that inquisitive look flashed across his face. We know she’s been linked to the warehouse for a very long time…long enough to see her grandson move into a retirement home, but is that all there is to it? She’s immortal, so to speak?

As Mrs. Frederic and Jinks peruse the inner sanctum of the Vatican’s secret library, which was accessed by tapping certain bricks on the wall (can you say Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley?), more secrets are revealed about the mysterious Brotherhood of the Black Diamond. Perhaps the team was mistaken about Brother Adrian, especially when he reappears after being trapped inside a painting. If Brother Adrian is in Rome, then who is Artie talking to at the warehouse? And who sent the artifact to trap the brotherhood in the painting in the first place?

Warehouse 13 - S4 Ep 409 - The Ones You LoveThis entire episode escalates into a tragic end. Leena (Genelle Williams) tearfully pleas with Artie, “Please stop! Please stop! Artie, there’s nobody there. It’s just you; it’s just you,” as he continues to yell at no one. Has Artie been imagining Brother Adrian this whole time? Has Artie’s “evil” of his “own making” been merely a figment of his stressed out imagination? Artie fed into the warning so much that he truly did create his own evil. But just before poor Leena perishes, she notices that Artie isn’t Artie anymore, “Who are you? Who are you!” Such a shame; I wanted Leena’s back story to be revealed. How does she know when people aren’t themselves? How does she know which artifacts cancel each other out? Was anyone expecting this ending? The writers did a great job of throwing a curve ball because I didn’t see Artie as the culprit. This twist puts a new spin on how the team will proceed now that Artie has gone rogue.

Can Mrs. Frederic find H.G. Wells (Jaime Murray) who’s keeping Magellan’s astrolabe for safe keeping? Will Mrs. Frederic use the astrolabe to bring Leena back?  Next week is the mid-season finale and it looks like it’s going to be a doozy.

Tune in to Warehouse 13’s mid-season finale, Monday Oct 1st at 9/8c only on Syfy.

Judy Manning

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.
