Mildred Pierce, Parts 4 and 5, Sunday, April 10 1

Kate Winslet as Mildred Pierce

While many have complained the Depression-era drama, Mildred Pierce, is too slow, as have I, I’m still interested enough to find out how the show ends. The conclusion of the mini-series airs Sunday, April 10, 9-11:30 pm ET/PT.

In Part 4, Mildred wants to open another restaurant, this time in the Laguna Beach area. But her business successes are tempered with problems with her daughter Veda and eventually, Mildred throws her out of her house.

In the conclusion, although Mildred’s initial attempts to reconcile with Veda fail, she does reconcile with Monty, whom she eventually marries. Veda’s career takes off and mother and daughter make up after the wedding. Unfortunately, Mildred faces some financial woes and the Laguna restaurant slumps. Urged by Bert to ask the financially successful Veda for a loan, Mildred returns home to a shocking revelation that will change her life forever.

Kate Winslet stars in the title role along with Guy Pearce, Evan Rachel Wood, Brían F. O’Byrne, James LeGros, Melissa Leo, Mare Winningham and Hope Davis.  Directed by Todd Haynes from a script by Haynes and Jon Raymond, Mildred Pierce tells the epic story of a proud single mother struggling to earn her daughter’s love during the Great Depression in middle-class Los Angeles.  Produced in association with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the miniseries follows the story laid out by James M. Cain in his 1941 novel of the same name.  Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, John Wells and Todd Haynes executive produce; Ilene S. Landress co-executive produces.  Parts One and Two debuted March 27; part Three debuted April 3.
