“You want to know how to be a lawyer, I’m your man. You want to know how to deal with love? That’s not my area.” – Harvey

A rare moment seeing Ava smile

A rare moment seeing Ava smile

Upset with what a circus her trial turned into, Ava (Michelle Fairley) hires Travis Tanner (Eric Close) to take on Pearson Darby Specter once again. Will Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Travis allow their past to get in the way? This is Suits, so of course they will.

With the Hessington case dragging on for too so long, it seems Suits is becoming more about personal revenge and less about winning lawsuits. Daniel Hardman (David Costabile), Cameron Dennis (Gary Cole), Travis Tanner, and others have all gone after the firm because of a personal vendetta against Jessica (Gina Torres) or Harvey rather than winning a case for their client. Now, because Ava’s case spun out of control due to Harvey’s actions, we can add Ava to the growing list of people who want revenge.

“Stay” focuses on the women of Suits and their relationships. Scottie (Abigail Spencer) is back in Harvey’s life but as the merger continues to fall apart, she needs to decide whose side she’ll choose to be on. I have never felt the chemistry between Scottie and Harvey other than during their sexual encounters, and I find their relationship more of a distraction than something I want to invest in. It has been two seasons and little has changed, yet they keep playing the same game with each other.

Did Donna just get played by Jessica?

Did Donna just get played by Jessica?

It’s fun seeing Mike (Patrick J Adams) and Donna (Sarah Rafferty) together outside their office environment as Mike helps Donna get closure—or revenge, depending on your point of view— with Steven (Max Beesley). Donna doesn’t seem like herself ever since his betrayal, and I’m hoping she will now be able to move on. The old Donna never would have let Jessica trick her into revealing any secrets.

I doubt I am the only one who feels a little dirty after watching another hookup between Louis (Rick Hoffman) and Sheila (Rachael Harris). I laughed when Sheila pulls him towards her for a kiss and Louis simply leans in and says, “Thank you” before walking away. As odd and uneasy as their relationship is, I enjoy their unusual chemistry together. Can you imagine what a Sheila and Louis baby would be like?

We knew that someday, Louis would learn Mike’s secret and given their rocky history, it was bound to make for some entertaining TV. However, the way Louis learns the truth about Mike has to be one of the worst setups in TV history for such a big reveal. The only thing missing is a big, red neon sign pointing to the file cabinet.

Despite my crush on Rachel (Meghan Markle), I have to admit she is getting on my nerves. I found myself siding with Mike, which also might explain why I am single. The whole will or won’t she go to Stanford game she’s playing is driving me nuts.

Rare to hear Harvey say "I'm Sorry"

Rare to hear Harvey say “I’m Sorry”

Did anyone else feel a little disappointed by Harvey in this episode? As much as Harvey preaches about loyalty, he shows very little of it to Mike each time he approaches him hoping Harvey will listen. I was expecting a Fonze moment as Harvey says, “I am sorry” to not one, but two, people. What I really wanted was to see Harvey react more when he learns what Jessica did. At what point are either of them going to realize a majority of their problems have been self-inflicted or retaliation for previous actions?

Overall, I enjoyed the first half of the season. My hope is that Suits returns to the basics and gets back to fighting interesting and unusual cases in court rather than putting out internal fires. As much as I enjoy scenes with Louis or Donna, and appreciate Suits for its well-rounded cast, the show is really about Mike and Harvey. Unfortunately, when I look back over the first half of this season, not many of their scenes were memorable.

With no more merger or Ava around, I am already looking forward to what happens when the second half of Suits returns this winter. What do you think Louis is going to do with his new found information? Tweet me @staffaroadtrip or leave a comment below to let me know what you think about “Stay.”

I provide testosterone to the site. You won’t be reading about how nice a actress looks in a dress or how much of a hunk Matt Bomer is in my reviews. I describe colors using words like brown, not taupe. My twitter name is @staffaroadtrip because I love road trips and have done two different 48-state road trips since 2008. My favorite show is White Collar.
