Hines Ward MVP of "Dancing with the Stars!" Recap/Review: "Dancing with the Stars - The Results Show," Week 10 Season Finale 5

Winner Hines Ward

It was an entertaining season finale for Dancing with the Stars and I have to say, I’ve had a difficult time picking my favorite. All three finalists deserve to win, in my opinion. If truth be told, though, I have been rooting for Hines Ward all along. So imagine how happy I am now that Hines has won! For a recap/review of the season 12 finale, keep reading.

What a fun way to open the evening’s events by bringing back the stars of Season 12 in a lively dance number. It’s also fun to watch the brief snippets of the remaining three stars’ dances from last night, including the comments we didn’t get to see or hear last night.

I couldn’t be more excited to see six-time Grammy award-winning group, The Black-Eyed Peas, with their primetime television debut of their latest single, “Don’t Stop the Party,” from their sixth studio album, “The Beginning.” I may be getting up there in years, but I still know a talented music group when I hear one. What a fabulous performance! I just love the Black-Eyed Peas!

Dancing with the Stars – The Results Show has a lot of filler to stretch out this two-hour show. Besides seeing a montage of previous dances, Psycho Mike Catherwood treats us to another dance with Lacey Schwimmer and the Dance Troupe. While it was all in good fun, it’s just painful watching him dance. After Petra Nemcova survived the tsunami of 2005, if you remember, she chose “You Raise Me Up” as one of the songs she and Dmitry Chaplin danced to. Tonight, as the same music plays, she’s as lovely and exquisite as ever. How fun was it when Dmitry pointed out to her Josh Groban was singing the song live and in person?! He flew in from his tour just to surprise her. What a beautiful and melodic voice Groban has.

Kendra Wilkinson is back dancing, this time with Louis, Tony, Tristan and Teddy. Shimmying and shaking to Ricky Martin’s “Living the Vida Loca,” Kendra doesn’t fail to entertain, even going so far as shaking her booty on top of the judges’ table, right in Len’s face! Too bad Louis almost dropped her!

More filler as we’re treated to some dances from the theme weeks we had this season. It’s ok, I like re-watching them. Boxing announcer Mike Buffer returned to introduce Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke, and Sugar Ray Leonard with his partner, Anna Trebunskya as if they’re doing a dance-off. As only Buffer can, he announces “Let’s get ready to rummmble.” What really cracks me up is Chris’ spot-on imitation of Bruno, accent, moves and all after the dance!

I know the show wants to amuse us with skits involving the stars who have previously gone home, but the one with Wendy Williams, Wendy Williams and Tony Dovolani was just stupid, if you ask me. Yes, you read that correctly. There were two Wendy Williamses in the skit. Thankfully, it didn’t last all that long as the Macy’s Pick-A-Dance was next. Chosen to dance was Maks, Lacey, Cheryl and Chelsie to the song the viewers chose, “Beauty and the Beat,” by the Go-Gos who are there to perform in person.
It was a pleasure to once again watch Romeo and Chelsie Hightower do the Viennese Waltz. What a class act, is all I can say. Way to squash those stereotypes, Romeo! Follow that with a Quick Step from Ralph and Karina, and I’m head over heels in love with these guys! Probably the cutest and funniest bit on the show is the rap sequence judges Len, Bruno and Carrie Ann do. It really had me laughing out loud!

So here we are, the most exciting portion of the show – the final dance. If I’m being honest, I expect nothing less than perfect 30s from the judges for each couple. Hasn’t that been what’s happened each preceding season?

The three finalists have to choose their favorite dance from the entire season. First up, it’s Chelsea and Mark, who have chosen the Viennese Waltz, which Len didn’t particularly like the first time out. Since they’re recreating it, they’re really going out on a limb here. But, it’s as fun, magical and entertaining as the first time out, if not more in my opinion. All season long, I’ve given you the majority of the judges’ comments, word for word, after each dance, but tonight, I’m just going to give you the highlights. Len: “Bottom line, you are a fantastic dancer.” Bruno: “Chelsea the enchantress. We really are all under your spell.” Carrie Ann: “….you are very, very talented, artistic, classy, beautiful, graceful woman.” Score: a perfect 30, giving them 89 out of 90 for both nights’ scores.

Kirstie has chosen the Cha Cha as her favorite dance, not only because it was her first dance with Maks, she wants to show everyone how much has been cut out of the dress! Kirstie, always the comedian. Wow, what a long way she’s come! She is so much better tonight and at least there aren’t any falls or pratfalls, for that matter. Bruno: “You saved the best for last! You’ve never danced better!” Carrie Ann: “When I watch that Cha Cha, I see nothing but authenticity, transformation and maybe, a little magic.” Len: “Tonight, you have produced your best dance, well done.” Score: 30 for a total for both nights of 84 out of 90.

The last competitive dance of the season belongs to Hines and Kym who have decided to do the Samba Hines previously devoted to his mother. It’s amazing how far Kym has taken this football player who has never danced before. What a great routine! It’s lively, energetic, and just plain good old fun, and I love that Hines runs over to kiss his mother. I expect nothing less than a 30 and the judges don’t disappoint. Carrie Ann: “In all honesty, I just think that you’re the MVP of Dancing with the Stars, Season 12.” Len: “You bring every dance to life…fantastic.” Bruno: “When you’re out here, we all fall in love…Mr. Irresistable.” Score: 30, for a total of 89 out of 90.

With her number one hit single, “Give it Up,” season three favorite Sarah Evans performs while we watch more snippets of the final three stars dancing. I’m not really a fan of country music, but I must say Evans has a beautiful voice.

Well, here we are – the elimination round. The first couple to go is Chelsea and Mark. What the f*ck!? I totally disagree with that! No way does Chelsea deserve third place! Maybe second, but definitely not third. At this point, I’m going to tell you that a certain birdie has told me Dancing with the Stars is fixed. Two birdies, for that matter. The birdie closest to me has told me all along Kirstie and Maks were going to win. This despite the fact this birdie doesn’t particularly care for Kirstie.

And the winner of Dancing with the Stars, Season 12 is………Hines and Kym! I’m so happy and I’m so glad those little birdies were wrong – which is what I told them all along!

So, Season 12 is over and it’s been fun, dance fans. Were you surprised that Hines took that beautiful Mirror Ball trophy home? I wasn’t. See you next year for Season 13!

  1. They danced to a mix of songs: “Let it Be,” by the Beatles; “My Prerogative,” by Bobby Brown, all from Week 3. Is this what you’re looking for?

I have been trying to track down the name of the song and artist that Chris Jericho and Sugar Ray Leonard danced to on the finale tonight. Something like ‘Let it Ride’?
