Yeah, don’t trust him; you said.” – Carrie to Quinn

There was no way “A Gettysburg Address” could have been as riveting as last week’s “Q&A,” but it still gives viewers enough to chew on to keep them more than invested. This week’s installment of Homeland raises a lot of interesting questions now that we’ve reached the middle of this stellar season, not the least of which is whether Brody (Damian Lewis) can be trusted, or whether his alliances still lie with Abu Nazir (Navid Negahban).

Can Brody Really Be Trusted? Review: Homeland - "A Gettysburg Address" 1

Quinn gets ready when he hears noises coming from the front of the Tailor’s shop.

Then, there’s Roya (Zuleikha Robinson). How does she know the Tailor’s (Nasser Farris) shop was tossed two weeks ago? This leads to the next, most obvious, question: Is the mole alive and kicking? If so, is he a casualty of the Hezbollah when they gun down everyone on Peter Quinn’s (Rupert Friend) forensics team as they search for information? Or could the mole be someone else who’s all too familiar? And what will Dana (Morgan Saylor) do now that she knows the woman Finn (Timothee Chalamat) hit with his car last week is dead? Once again, we are asked to believe in Brody but with the events that occur in “A Gettysburg Address,” how can we?

Observations:

Things seem to be ok between Jess (Morena Baccarin) and Brody (Damian Lewis) although she still doesn’t trust him—especially when it comes to Carrie. I can’t say I blame her, given Brody’s past relationship with Carrie. But why does he lie and tell Jess Carrie has nothing to do with the CIA anymore? Lies always come back to bite you in the ass, and by now, Brody should know better.

Jess checks out Dana’s head when she says she’s too sick to go to school.

I’m getting a little tired of the Dana and Finn story line. I’m hoping, though, this is somehow going to tie into Vice President Walden’s (Jamey Sheridan) bid for the presidency.  Now that Dana knows the injured woman is dead, she’s tortured by the secret she and Finn are harboring. I don’t think she’ll be able to stay quiet for long, despite Finn’s urgent pleas not to say anything.  Like father, like son; right, Finn? Gotta hide the truth at all costs. Obviously, the kid cares only about himself. Saylor does a great job of portraying a teenager with a guilty conscience; her angst comes clear through the TV screen. Chalamat also does a good job; despite his strong demeanor when he’s bullying Dana, you can almost smell the fear on him.

What’s up with Virgil (David Marciano) losing the mystery man Roya meets up with? It’s very likely he’s the Tailor’s replacement. As quick as you can say “terrorist,” the mystery man disappears into the subway system. Really, Virgil—you’re a trained operative! You were right behind him so I don’t understand how you lost him. And earlier, why does the audio, for which Virgil is responsible, go silent during a crucial portion of Brody and Roya’s conversation? I’m beginning to question whether Virgil could be the mole. I know Carrie trusts him implicitly but isn’t it always the most unlikely character who turns out to be the bad guy?

Estes and Saul stonewall Faber’s request for more information.

Lauder (Marc Menchaca) and Faber (Diego Klattenhoff) seem hell bent on finding out who killed Tom Walker (Chris Chalk). For a man who’s been portrayed as a drunk since the beginning of Homeland, Lauder certainly seems to be on the right track. And now that he and Faber know the CIA shut down the police investigation shortly after Walker died, they’re even more determined to find out who killed him. Despite Saul (Mandy Patinkin) and Estes’ (David Harewood) best efforts to stop Faber, though, he charges ahead and finds information he believes confirms his suspicions. There’s only one problem—how does he know definitively that the missing bullet is the one that killed Walker?

Brody finally comes clean to Carrie and Quinn about the Tailor. You could cut the tension in the air between the two men, especially when they go at it, verbally speaking. Then again, Quinn doesn’t trust Carrie either. Even with her very shaky mental status, I still believe in her. After all, she’s been right all along. Now that Carrie and Quinn know the Tailor is dead, they figure it’s safe to search the shop for any information the Tailor might have hid there. Too bad they don’t get to finish the job. Talk about a Gettysburg address!

Brody decides to go through with Carrie’s request, and as predicted, Roya wants to know more about Carrie’s mention of the “Hezbollah.” However, she’s more interested in knowing why the Tailor’s shop was tossed two weeks ago. My question: How does she know about that? Where does this woman get her information?

Carrie and Brody argue over whether he knew about the Gettysburg attack beforehand.

Brody and Carrie play opposite roles this week from the ones in “Q&A.” Last week, it was Carrie being strong, doing all the comforting, and this week, Brody comforts Carrie following the debacle in Gettysburg. What an interesting juxtaposition. Carrie is holding on by a very thin thread, and she’s playing with fire here. If she’s not careful, she’s going to get burned.

Here are my questions of the week: Now that Faber has told Jess his suspicions, will she confront Brody? Does Roya know Brody is working for the CIA? Are Quinn and Galvez (Hrach Titizian) alive? And what the hell is in that black trunk the mystery man and his team cart out of the Tailor’s shop?
