Greg Staffa

I provide testosterone to the site. You won’t be reading about how nice a actress looks in a dress or how much of a hunk Matt Bomer is in my reviews. I describe colors using words like brown, not taupe. My twitter name is @staffaroadtrip because I love road trips and have done two different 48-state road trips since 2008. My favorite show is White Collar.

Relationships Matter. Retrospective: Suits – “Shadow of a Doubt”

“Shadow of a Doubt” isn’t your typical episode of Suits; instead, it’s more of a tune up. Just like a car, you need to adjust things now and then to make sure everything runs like it should. “Shadow of a Doubt” gives each character an opportunity to work on their various relationships, and thankfully, they all come out stronger because of it.

Game of Cat & Mouse. Retrospective: Graceland - “Bag Man” 1

We now know Briggs (Daniel Sunjata) is the mysterious drug supplier Oden. And as Oden, Briggs must now get Bello (Gbenga Akinnagbe) the promised drugs without Mike (Aaron Tveit) or the Caza Cartel finding out exactly who Oden is.

49 vs.51% is a Huge Difference. Review: Suits – “Conflict of Interest”

Ava Hessington (Michelle Fairley) not only faces murder charges but the loss of her company as well, and figuring out the best course of action has divided Pearson Darby.

Got Your Back. Retrospective: Suits – “Unfinished Business”

Got Your Back. Retrospective: Suits - “Unfinished Business” 2

Despite Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Mike (Patrick J. Adams) getting back together, I still have concerns because being together does not always mean being forgiven. I had a list of things I wanted to see play out to get things back on track, and happily, “Unfinished Business” is the perfect title to a terrific episode.

One Big Heat Run. Retrospective: Graceland – “Goodbye High”

One Big Heat Run. Retrospective: Graceland - “Goodbye High” 3

“Goodbye High” picks up right where “Hair of the Dog” left off with Mike (Aaron Tveit) following Briggs (Daniel Sunjata) to an unknown building only to discover it’s a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. Much to Mike’s surprise, Briggs confesses to the group he is a heroin addict.

Carpe Diem. Review: Suits – “I Want You to Want Me”

Having lost his position overseeing the associates, Louis (Rick Hoffman) jumps at the opportunity Jessica (Gina Torres) offers him to pick one associate to mentor. His obvious choice is Mike (Patrick J. Adams) but first he has to get the blessing of Harvey (Gabriel Macht). Since Harvey still wants nothing to do with Mike, he is all too happy to give it.

Uni-ball. Review: Suits – “The Arrangement”

Let me start by saying dream sequences drive me nuts. Usually, they are teasers for something the audience wants to see or are used to shock them. In this case, we get both

Sex and Heroin. Retrospective: Graceland – “O-Mouth”

Sex and Heroin. Retrospective: Graceland - "O-Mouth" 4

At times, the sexual ambience on Graceland takes away from some of its grittiness. The last few episodes seem more like an episode of Big Brother rather than a cop show and “O-Mouth” is no exception.

It's Just Sauce. Review: Graceland - "Pizza Box" 5

For months, Briggs (Daniel Sunjata) has been trying to meet with Bello (Gbenga Akinnagbe), the Nigerian crime lord. Once he does, Bello takes more of an interest in Mike’s (Aaron Tveit) shooting skills and tells Briggs to get lost. Mike is then faced with the difficult task of having to teach Bello’s men how to shoot better without actually helping them get better.

Who’s Playing Whom? Review: Graceland – “Heat Run”

Who’s Playing Whom? Review: Graceland - "Heat Run" 6

During my first two reviews of Graceland, I was much more lenient than I would have been had it been an established show. I wanted it to get some traction under its feet and see how I felt. “Heat Run” is the episode I have been waiting for as it addresses some of the complaints I had.

Hector’s Tacos. Review: Graceland - “Guadalajara Dog” 7

Adjusting to life as an FBI undercover agent hasn’t been easy for Mike (Aaron Tveit). Still fresh out of the academy where he was trained to immediately step in and stop crime, now he must step back and weigh the consequences of getting involved.

Mr. Booty Man. Review: Psych - “Nip and Suck It” 10

Henry (Corbin Bernsen) comes across a dead body while out bird watching. (Yes, bird watching). This discovery revitalizes the passion and drive he had when he was a cop in search of killers. Only one problem, he’s no longer a cop.

White Chocolate. Review: Psych – “Dead Air”

White Chocolate. Review: Psych - “Dead Air” 11

When Crock Daniels (Brent Chapman), a popular morning radio DJ, is shot while on the air, it’s up to Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) to not only find the killer, but to take over the radio show. Shawn as a radio DJ? How hard could that be?

Starfish Spencer. Review: Psych – “Office Space”

Starfish Spencer. Review: Psych - "Office Space" 12

For much of season seven, I was concerned that Gus has been reduced to more of a minor character. At times, it even seems like Woody (Kurt Fuller) has been given scenes that in previous seasons would have been written for Gus. Psych has always been about the friendship between Shawn and Gus and when the writers deviate from that, they lose some of the show’s identity. Thankfully, “Office Space” is a fun episode that puts Shawn and Gus’ relationship back on track.

Joint Fruit Loops. Review: Psych – “Juliet Wears the Pantsuit”

Joint Fruit Loops. Review: Psych - “Juliet Wears the Pantsuit” 15

Season seven has really been Juliet’s (Maggie Lawson) year, from entire episodes that focused on her and her character growth, to her kicking ass and saving the day. “Juliet Wears the Pantsuit” is no exception, especially since we get what looks like not only one Juliet, but two.

Wet Toilet Paper. Review: Psych – “Right Turn or Left for Dead”

Wet Toilet Paper. Review: Psych - "Right Turn or Left for Dead" 16

“Right Turn or Left for Dead,” Shawn’s (James Roday) life splits into Juliet (Maggie Lawson) knowing his secret and Juliet not knowing his secret. This impacts not only Shawn and Juliet’s life but the lives of everyone around them, as well as the case Shawn and Gus (Dulé Hill) are working on.

Frankie Friction. Retrospective: Psych – “Deez Nups”

Frankie Friction. Retrospective: Psych - "Deez Nups" 17

“Deez Nups” is a fun episode filled with everything you would expect from a Psych wedding. In many ways, I wish this had been the highly hyped 100th episode because it had what I felt was missing —a part for everyone. The whole cast was involved, providing a fun celebration for everyone

Tito Jackson’s B-day. Review: Psych - "Cirque Du Soul" 18

Gus (Dule Hill) plans a “big boy day” in an effort to spend some quality time with his girlfriend Rachael’s (Parminder Nagra) son, Maximus (Mateen Devji). When Maximus rejects his list of things to do, Shawn (James Roday) suggests the circus; little does Gus know that’s the location of their next case

Prof. Plum in the Study with a Candlestick. Review: Psych - "100 Clues" 19

Shawn takes Gus (Dule Hill) with him instead and soon they realize that a case from their past has brought all the players back together again, but for what reason? During the evening, someone is found murdered, leaving them all to wonder which one of them is the murderer and who is next?

It’s Semantics. Review: Psych – “No Country for Two Old Men”

It’s Semantics. Review: Psych - "No Country for Two Old Men" 20

Is there such a shortage of writers that new and original ideas have run dry? Don’t get me wrong, homage episodes can be cute every now and then but it’s starting to look like Psych is a show that only does homages of other shows.

Dry Rub. Review: Psych – “Lassie Jerky”

Dry Rub. Review: Psych - "Lassie Jerky" 21

The other day, I was tweeting that I’m not a fan of episodes directed by James Roday (who plays Shawn Spencer). It prompted a reply from Terry Goldman, Director of Social Media for USA Network who asked, “Why in particular? His directing always pays great homage to classic films.” I told Mr Goldman those episodes reminded me of the Sesame Street song, “One of These Things is Not Like the Other.”
