The NYCC in New York’s Javits Center was strictly for comic book lovers and gamers. Yup, that’s what I should have expected, but didn’t. Since I’ve attended Comic-Con in San Diego, I thought the two would be similar. Boy was I mistaken. I didn’t find much that appealed to my sensibilities and noticed how the size of the separate events made quite the difference. It seems the more popular an event is, the bigger the draw. Meaning, more celebrities will be in attendance. The lack of actors/directors/writers was quite noticeable and a big factor for this member of the press. But, I digress. On to the good stuff.

My main goal (which I found out was the main goal of most Saturday attendees) was to attend the The Walking Dead (TWD) panel. I, and at least 1,000 others, waited in line for about four hours. Yes, we were that dedicated and just knew we’d get into the IGN theatre to witness TWD greatness. Alas, we moved not one inch during our wait, never entering the room where the actual panel took place. While standing in line, we had access to two large viewing screens and were able to see the TWD panel, as well as the panels for Beautiful Creatures (the book turned film, coming to a theatre near you in February 2013), Carrie (the revitalized remake starring Julianne Moore and Chloe Grace Moretz), and Evil Dead (starring Jane Levy of Suburgatory)—the latter of which I’m interested to see despite my aversion to scary movies. At all. Bruce Campbell was the saving grace during the three hour wait for the TWD panel. He was HIL-ARI-OUS, charismatic and such a genuine person that I am seriously considering checking out Evil Dead but in the case I don’t because I’m too scared, you should. Campbell doesn’t star in the film, but dons his producer hat as he feels the need for the revamping to be “fresh” and feature new actors who can take over the cult movie phenom.

I should mention here that AMC, who has my utmost respect, is an amazing television conglomerate. Someway or other they found out us line holders weren’t able to make it into the TWD panel and allowed for the sneak peek of tonight’s season three premiere to be viewed outside of the IGN theatre. While I managed to see the panel from said long ass line and the amazing opening clip for tonight’s season premiere (seriously, the season premiere will blow your mind!), the experience was interesting. It was the most awesome sneak peek I’ve ever witnessed for the show. Not only was it full of surprises and frights, but it promises that season three will be the best season of TWD to date. I’m not the only one to think so as Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes) made that exact statement during the panel. He also let a few things slip he probably shouldn’t have about what’s to be expected this season, but what can you expect from the young star. He’s such a sweet kid and is an asset to the show (say so long to those “Where’s Carl” tees). You’ll find out for yourself tonight.

“Beth is 17, Carl is 13… You might see a little bit of that.” – Riggs said when asked if he wanted another kid or girlfriend on the show.
“Getting to be a part of it has been a thrill ride for me.” – Danai Gurira on her character Michonne joining the show this season.

“You shouldn’t be watching this show!” – writer, Robert Kirkman to a kid in the audience.
“Oh! Even younger children. Is there a toddler or a fetus who has a question for a show you shouldn’t be watching?” – moderator Chris Hardwick to a kid waiting to ask a question.
“I think he’ll kind of revert back to the little brother… That gets tested quite a bit during season three.” – Norman Reedus on Merle’s return to the show.
“First season—welcome to the new world; second season—was my search for leadership; third season… going to the dark side. I love the fact that it keeps evolving.” Andrew Lincoln on Rick’s change over the seasons
“There’s a lot of dark stuff on the horizon.” – Kirkman on what to expect during season three.

There will be 16 episodes this season (three more than season two), so fans will have plenty of TWD to look forward to. I hope you don’t miss even one second of this show because it will be one second too many. The Walking Dead premiere airs tonight, October 14 at 9/8c only on AMC.
