“The Last Fight” doesn’t skimp on the Wesen bloodshed when we are introduced to some bull-headed (pun intended) fighters who don’t fight fair. Meanwhile, Captain Sean Renard’s (Sasha Roiz) mother Elizabeth (Louise Lombard) helps Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) retrace Adalind’s (Claire Coffee) steps in creating the potion used to strip Nick’s (David Giuntoli) Grimm powers. Plus, Sgt. Wu (Reggie Lee) is relentless in his search for the truth about Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni).

I knew Elizabeth was Sean’s mother but I am concerned about how she brought him back to life in last week’s episode. She used a double-sided, two-headed snake, almost like a battery cable with positive/negative charges, to jolt him back. I’m sure it will take a toll on her more than her son. I’m just glad Sean is ok; plus, the new character addition on Grimm isn’t a bad thing. I am not saying the show needs spicing up but let’s be real, things are getting mundane with the same old, same old. Now that Nick has lost his Grimm powers and Trubel is the resident Grimm in Portland, things are getting weird. I love weird. It’s Portland, remember?

“The Last Fight” takes us into the ring as a young boxer named Clay (Arlen Escarpeta) is on the cusp of headlining a major fight in Vegas. The trouble is he doesn’t like to fight. But Stan (guest star Ron Canada), his promoter and manager, and Abe (guest star James Martin Kelly), his ring man, know how to jump start Clay’s fighting spirit. I cringed when those hired ruffians beat Clay with big sticks to get the Wesen juices flowing. I had some suspicions about Clay’s mother too, but they weren’t what I originally expected. She’s got issues though, that’s for damn sure. All that fight money Clay’s making has gone to her head.

With Nick’s Grimm abilities gone, he and Hank (Russell Hornsby) must rely on Trubel to sniff out signs of Wesen. As a side note, what does that say about Nick’s detective skills? He used to be a regular detective when we met him in season one. He had no idea about his powers and solved crimes the old fashion way – by deciphering clues and gathering evidence. I kind of feel bad for Nick because it seems as though he feels he’s not good enough without his Grimm abilities.

When one of the guys who give Clay a pre-fight beating is found dead with mysterious puncture wounds, Trubel goes undercover in the boxing gym to see what’s really going on. I think we all knew she was going to end up in the ring but I still enjoy seeing Trubel in action, flexing her Grimm strength. She really needs to work on her fighting skills, though. I wonder if she’ll develop those heightened Grimm senses like Nick did after he got ‘zombiefied’ in season three. Show of hands, who thinks Nick will get his powers back before mid-season? How many think he’ll get them back by the end of season four? What’s a show called Grimm without its main character being a Grimm, right? Speaking of Trubel, we know she was taken captive by FBI Agent Chavez (Elizabeth Rodriguez) but the conversation these two have isn’t what I expected. Is Agent Chavez part of the resistance?

Nick's still unsure of himself now that he's lost his Grimm powers...

Nick seems unsure of himself now that he’s lost his Grimm powers…

I am curious about the mysterious connection Nick and Adalind have –the twin psychic vision headache powers they have going on. Nick sees the dungeon in Vienna where Adalind is being held captive, and Adalind sees inside Nick’s living room. What’s up with that? Curiously, the visit to the optometrist provides some interesting details about Nick’s ocular abilities. Seems he still has the ability to see things others can’t, although he can’t see what he used to see when he had his Grimm powers. I’m sure this will be resolved, preferably before Thanksgiving break, please.

I digress. As Nick and Hank continue to ‘blindly’ investigate Stan and his shady business practices, Elizabeth helps Monroe and Rosalee figure out what Adalind did to Nick. I cringed when Elizabeth tastes a piece of the leftover crystallized green gunk in her mouth. It was gross but she is a powerful Hexenbiest so I trust she knows what she’s doing.

Monroe is hilarious. He says he’s not afraid of Elizabeth but it’s clear he’s a tad nervous in her presence. When Rosalee offers to let Elizabeth use her spice shop to brew up an antidote, Monroe’s eyes bulge and he gets flustered. Anything for a friend right? I just hope Elizabeth figures out how to reverse the spell before the connection between Adalind and Nick morphs into something dangerous.

Adalind has made a friend in the dungeon…and I’m not talking about the rats that cuddle up to her while she’s sleeping (shudders). Who is the creepy guy behind the wall and why is he willing to help Adalind escape, if that is, indeed, what he’s doing? I have a feeling he has his own agenda. Perhaps he’s a spy planted by Prince Viktor (Alexis Denisof) to get information out of Adalind. At any rate, I’m intrigued with the season so far and excited to see where the writers take us.

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.
