Grimm – “Blind Love” Review. Let’s Get It On.

Hilarious! Entertaining! And downright laugh out loud funny! “Blind Love” is by far one of the most amusing episodes of Grimm to date. The shenanigans that go on at Monroe’s (Silas Weir Mitchell) birthday weekend getaway are fantastic. And we also meet another new intriguing Wesen, which makes saying goodbye to the cast of Grimm harder and harder each week.

Before I jump into the main story line of “Blind Love,” I want to get to some other, yet equally, relevant plot points. If you recall in episode 603 “Oh Captain, My Captain,” Lt. Grossante (Chris L. McKenna) threatened Capt. Renard (Sasha Roiz), who wasn’t the real Renard but actually Nick (David Giuntoli) using the “Verfluchte Zwillingsschwester” spell. At any rate, Grossante and the real Renard had a deal which got squashed when fake Renard (aka Nick) renounced his mayoral candidacy, thus ruining Grossante’s chance to become Captain of the precinct.

Grossante’s attempt to blackmail Renard backfires with a vengeance. Grossante had no idea what he was getting himself into and learns some hard, painful lessons at the hands of Diana (Hannah R. Lloyd). Lloyd is absolutely amazing at being that creepy little girl you definitely don’t want to cross. Diana’s immaturity coupled with the knowledge of her impressive powers is not only frightening but downright lethal to anyone who upsets her. The smile on her face as she tosses Grossante around with the flick of her wrist sends a slight chill down my spine. The scene where Renard finally comes to pick up Diana is dripping with boastful sarcasm and a touch of disdain. It’s a definite must-see-episode from start to finish. I simply loved Renard’s reaction to Diana’s disappearance. At first, he’s the concerned father, whipping out his phone to call someone. But then he realizes that whoever took Diana is going to be in for a big surprise. I relished the reaction Grossante has when Diana bids him farewell until their next play date. Priceless.

Eve (Elizabeth Tulloch) crashing at Nick and Adalind’s (Claire Coffee) loft is a bit odd but it is what it is, right? Before they all head off to Monroe’s birthday weekend, Eve and Nick experience something quite strange in the bathroom. I know what you’re thinking – what were the two of them doing in the bathroom together – but it is an innocent moment, at least on the surface. Eve says something later in this episode that makes me question her true feelings. But back to the bathroom…what the hell is trying to come through the mirror? The swirling vortex-like image looks like the whirlpool Eve was being dragged down into during the “death grip” in episode 601 “Fugitive.”

Now on to the birthday bash. While at the hotel, an employee, Randy (guest star Jay Paulson), recognizes Nick as the officer who put his father behind bars. Randy wants to exact revenge and decides to put his Wesen powers to use. As a “Cupiditas,” his spit is supposed to be used for other purposes but in high doses, it can lead to extreme obsessive behavior. As Monroe, Nick, Adalind, Eve, Hank (Russell Hornsby), and Wu (Reggie Lee) make a champagne toast―Hank double fisting two glasses since Rosalee (Bree Turner) is pregnant―the gang seems to revel in their happiness. But their joy is short lived.

At the beginning of “Blind Love,” the audience is given a preview of the madness but we only see Monroe, Eve, Nick and Rosalee in the throes of their newfound affections. The morning after, you aren’t sure who is going to be in love with whom. Randy plucked hairs from everyone’s room but since Hank drank two glasses, it’s unclear who he’s going to be infatuated with. The results are absolute genius. Hornsby steals the show with his ardent display of adoration for his own plumage. The way he stares at himself in the mirror and sings to himself had me laughing out loud and also cheering him on. I mean, if you can’t love yourself, no one else will, right? This notion is taken to the extreme in “Blind Love.”

This is simply a must watch episode. You have to see how each of the love connections pans out, especially when Eve says something to Adalind that indicates her feelings for Nick maybe aren’t completely gone. It seems when the stick healed Eve’s wound, it softened Eve’s heart and bits of the old Juliette are beginning to emerge. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. Is Eve still a Hexenbiest? We haven’t seen her fully woge or use any powers as of late. I wonder if solving the puzzle of the cloth will help Eve but it can go either way.

“Blind Love” is one of the most entertaining Grimm episodes I’ve seen in a long time. Writer Sean Calder has a great sense of humor and it shines in this episode. While “Blind Love” doesn’t push the cloth and magic stick story arc forward much, the bathroom scene does add another piece to the puzzle. And now that we know Diana can’t really keep a secret, Renard is now in the know, somewhat, about the strange runes. I’m sure that’s not going to bode well for our Scooby gang.
