Tyrant Season Finale – “Gone Fishing” Retrospective. What If?

If you were expecting a lot of fireworks in the season finale of Tyrant, you’ll be disappointed. There are no fireworks at all. For that matter, no one even raises their voice. I know writers Howard Gordon and Chris Keyser could have done a better job. The cliffhanger isn’t even a proper cliffhanger as we all know there’s no way Jamal is going to execute Barry. Unless, of course, Rayner wants off the show next season. All in all, as season finales go, “Gone Fishing” is a huge disappointment for me.

Tyrant – “Gaslight” Retrospective. The Seeds of Doubt.

As Tyrant’s penultimate episode, “Gaslight” does a wonderful job of setting up next week’s finale. Kudos to Chris Levinson for the story he tells in this episode, which is not only beautifully written but acted. Everyone, from Barry to Yussef to Ziad, in particular, elevates their acting as they all strive to make Jamal believe Tariq is trying to oust him from power. With Molly’s last words to Barry, one can only assume he will think hard about his past and future decisions.

Tyrant – “Meet the New Boss” Retrospective. Surprises and More Surprises.

I know in my review of “Preventative Medicine,” I said the episode was a huge turning point for Tyrant, but that’s because I hadn’t yet seen “Meet the New Boss.” There are so many twists and turns, and surprise revelations I never saw coming. What a game changing episode! People’s allegiances are changing willy-nilly, as are personalities. As the freshman season of Tyrant draws to a close, “Meet the New Boss” does an excellent job of setting up the remaining two episodes.
