A Predictable Conclusion. Review: Smash Season Finale – “Bombshell”

To say I’m disappointed with the season finale of Smash would be putting it mildly, especially after “Previews” showed us what great acting and dialogue this show is capable of producing. “Bombshell” does no such thing. It is filled with predictability and yawn-inducing moments.

Michael’s Back and Rebecca Falls Ill. Review: Smash – “Previews” @NBCSmash

Seems like everything that can go wrong with opening night does, making for a very interesting episode. Dev (Raza Jaffrey) isn’t returning Karen’s (Katharine McPhee) calls, and Jessica (Savannah Wise) hasn’t been able to reach Ivy (Megan Hilty) either. Michael (Will Chase) returns to the role of Joe DiMaggio, causing huge problems for Julia (Debra Messing) and Tom (Christian Borle). On top of that, Rebecca (Uma Thurman) ends up in the hospital. Yeah, I’d say “all hell breaks loose.”

Cheating, Reconciling, and a Failed Marriage Proposal. Photos and Review: Smash – “Tech” @NBCSmash

Tech, or should I say technical, issues are at the heart of “Bombshell” after the production heads to Boston and loses its Joe DiMaggio. From a desk being too large, a leading lady with a bad case of the nerves, a director who can’t keep his hands off said leading lady, and a failed marriage proposal, “Tech” presents an excellent look at what can go wrong with a Broadway production before it actually reaches Broadway. Talk about an awful lot of drama!

A Bollywood Fantasy. Review: Smash – “Publicity” @NBCSmash

Rebecca (Uma Thurman) is up to her old antics trying to replace songs with scenes, which highly annoys Tom (Christian Borle). And she befriends Karen (Katharine McPhee)—for what purpose I’m not quite sure. Derek (Jack Davenport) tells Karen he sees her as Marilyn in his hallucinations, admitting she should be the one playing the role. Leo (Emory Cohen) runs away, and Eileen’s (Angelica Huston) boyfriend and almost ex-husband come face to face. Such is the entertaining episode known as “Publicity.”

Flourishing and Crumbling Relationships. Review: Smash – “Understudy”

Movie star Rebecca Duvall (Uma Thurman) signs on for “Bombshell” but is a no show at rehearsals. Julia (Debra Messing) suffers the fallout of her affair with Michael (Will Chase). Karen (Katharine McPhee) is asked to be Rebecca’s understudy, and problems arise between John (Neal Bledsoe) and Tom (Christian Borle). What an entertaining episode “Understudy” turns out to be!
