Only one question flutters through my mind while watching “The Last Day.” Why does Klaus (Joseph Morgan) get what he wants with no trouble? I just don’t see everyone going along with his evil plan to free himself of a curse without one bit of reluctance. But they do. Well, all except Damon (Ian Somerhalder), of course. “I’m surrounded by idiots, I need all the help I can get.” He just needs one person to understand and trust his instincts about foiling Klaus’ plans. I don’t think it will happen until he can get a grip on his emotions. I’m not seeing that happening anytime soon, but one can hope.
I’m glad to see Tyler (Michael Trevino) is back. I missed the werewolf. There’s still a lot about werewolves we don’t know and with him being gone, we were left hanging. The special effects surprise me during his change and I have to give kudos to Trevino for doing such a great job. Not only do I feel his pain but he drives the point home with his facial expressions. I really want him and Caroline (Candice Accola) to explore having a relationship. There are underlying feelings there between them. Anyone can see that, and it’s clear Matt (Zach Roerig) is no longer interested. Or is he?
Elijah (Daniel Gillies) seems too cool about things. I’m wondering if he can really be trusted. It’s difficult to tell if he’s going to pull a double cross or not; he’s hard to read. Elijah’s main concern is being rid of his brother rather than retaliating for being “killed.” Dagger through the heart, remember? Wouldn’t you want revenge if everyone who had something to do with killing you were close at hand?
This may sound harsh, but I want Elena (Nina Dobrev) to die. It’ll bring some drama into the episode. The writers can’t leave it all up to Damon to entertain us. Damon is a take action kind of guy and sometimes that what’s needed, although I didn’t expect him to force-feed Elena his blood. Was it a smart move? Probably not. It was desperate. And if that doesn’t show Elena how he feels about her, I’m not sure anything else he does could. He doesn’t want to lose her and he’s willing to do whatever is in his power to keep her safe. I don’t blame him. In fact, I wouldn’t mind seeing the two of them together already. It might be one step in the right direction, in a twisted sort of way.
I always enjoy a good fight scene, but why does it seem the Salvatore brothers can’t just talk things out? And here I thought they’d made a truce to protect Elena. Now all they do is go at one another and we all know why. Damon wants Elena. Stefan (Paul Wesley) can’t handle that so he lashes out with his fists instead of using his words. That’s so first season. Let’s do something new, writers. Please.
So now that Alaric (Matthew Davis) is himself and he’s explained things to Jenna (Sara Canning), where does that leave them? It’s still difficult for Jenna to process what’s going on in the world but I hope Alaric can help her accept things for what they are. She’s no longer ignorant and as the saying goes, “Ignorance is bliss.”
Total blonde moment:
Caroline to Damon after finding Matt knocked out: “Did you hit him?”
Damon: “Did you already forget about the part with the wooden bullets?”
Not only am I looking forward to the next episode, I’m dying to see what happens next season. Season two started off amazing and its going out just as well—Jenna’s in transition (hello! Did not see that coming), Damon has been bitten by a werewolf, and Elena admits to Stefan she doesn’t want to be a vampire. Tell me, how much more awesome can this show get?

Thanks so much! Glad to know someone else out there agrees with me. I think Damon will be fine though. The suspense of him potentially dying from the wolf bite is exciting, and I’m sure it will bring about results as far as the Damon/Elena relationship goes. I for one cannot wait to see what happens next!
