Suits – “One-Two-Three Go…” Retrospective. Same But Different.

After three season of Suits, it appeared the writers were running out of ideas to keep the series exciting. Countless episodes of internal power struggles became all too familiar and the rotation of names on the Pearson Hardman Darby Specter wall had become a running joke. A shake up was needed but not one that would upset the balance of such a wonderful ensemble cast. So, why not just give Mike Ross (Patrick J Adams) his own spinoff?

Graceland Conference Call with Star Vanessa Ferlito

When I reviewed the pilot for the USA network show Graceland, I had less than flattering things to say about Vanessa Ferlito’s role as Charlie. Since then, her role as an undercover FBI agent has evolved and Charlie has become a force to be reckoned with. On June 6, 2014 I spoke with Ferlito about Graceland and what she is excited for the fans to see this season.

Fargo – “A Fox, a Rabbit, and a Cabbage” Recap. Aces.

Welcome to season two of Fargo. Ok, maybe not, but it sure feels like that after “The Heap,” which, as I stated in my review, felt like a season finale. So much changed when the show jumped forward a year that in many ways, “A Fox, a Rabbit, and a Cabbage” feels like the beginning of a new season. Even the look of the show feels different as characters’ appearances have changed, and a few are living in new places.

24: Live Another Day – “5:00 PM—6:00 PM” Recap. Drone in Mirror.

“5:00 PM—6:00 PM” picks up following the intense shootout between Rask (Aksel Hennie), his men, and the MI-5 soldiers with Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and Morgan (Yvonne Strahovski) caught in the middle. When the dust settles, Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) informs Jack Simone (Emily Berrington) was hit by a bus and taken to the hospital. Will Jack be able to gain some information from Simone, or will she succumb to her injuries?

Graceland – “Baggage” Advance Review. Homecoming.

Graceland returns for season two on Wednesday, June 11, and quickly hits the ground running. When we last saw FBI agent Mike Warren (Aaron Tveit), he was in Washington D.C. working as the special assistant to the deputy director. Taking down Bellow (Gbenga Akinnagbe) last season made Mike a rock star within the FBI but Mike quickly realizes he can only ride the Bellow wave for so long.

Salem – “Departures” Retrospective. The Devil’s Due.

Witches are not the only monsters in Salem as Increase Mather’s (Stephen Lang) hunt for “the devil’s whores” takes a pivotal turn in “Departures.” WGN America’s original series Salem hits its stride with strong performances from the cast, and fast-moving action sequences. There are several compelling scenes that shine, so much so, it’s possible to look past the series prior imperfections.

Penny Dreadful – “Closer Than Sisters” Review. Tales of Adventure.

“Closer Than Sisters” provides a deep insight into Vanessa’s mind as we see how she grew up, her friendship with Mina, and the way Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) and she came to be united in finding Mina who is lost in the shadows. The richness in the story telling is beyond compelling, transfixing you, and transporting you to Vanessa’s childhood home along the seashore. What impresses me most throughout “Closer Than Sisters” is Green’s acting. As Vanessa becomes ill, her seizures, convulsions, and violent outbursts are truly remarkable.

Fargo Conference Call with Series Creator/Writer, Noah Hawley

Ever since he created the TV police comedy The Unusuals, I have been a fan of Noah Hawley’s. On May 30, 2014 during a conference call, I spoke with Hawley about his current show Fargo, which is based on the 1996 Coen Brothers’ film of the same name, as well as The Unusuals. Noah developed and wrote Fargo with the blessing of the Coen Brothers, who took a back seat with the series, serving only as executive producers.

Edge of Tomorrow Review, Photos, and Promo. You Can’t Keep a Good Man Dead.

Edge of Tomorrow is a great blockbuster action movie that is visually stunning, entertaining summer fare that reminded me of a video game. Kids especially will enjoy the flick for that reason alone. After all, what kid playing a video game doesn’t want a do over when his player is killed so he can get it right?

Salem – “Our Own Private America” Retrospective. High Stakes and Dark Desires.

Salem packs a punch this week in “Our Own Private America,” not only because of the sharp dialogue and plot thickening with suspense, but because of the memorable special guest starring role of Stephen Lang as the menacing, witch hunter clergyman, Increase Mathers. If the name sounds familiar, it should; Mathers is the father of Salem’s current reverend, Cotton Mathers (Seth Gabel). Interestingly, there is no moral grey area in Increase’s eyes—the means always justifies the end, which doesn’t bode well for some of the characters in Salem. Meanwhile, in town, the witch hysteria spirals out of control as more innocent lives are taken, and the latest addition to the coven, Mercy Lewis (Elise Eberle), begins her training as a witch. Hogwarts watch out!
